I'm kind of curious to ask ~ Any of the fixed focal lenses ~ Its better to choose the macro or the normal ? E.g Sony SAL-50F18 50mm f/1.8 DT AF or Sony SAL-50M28 50mmf/2.8 macro ?

The price is already has different.. if you want that extra feature (macro) for sure need to top up moar money Not sure about the focusing speed, usually macro lens focus bit slower than prime. (this is my opinion only) aaa I really want macro lens... or want to test... just to know if worth it to get to replace raynox This post has been edited by Ksano: Mar 17 2012, 01:04 AM

ahquan, macro primes and normal primes differs in 2 main aspects.
firstly, it's the maximum aperture. normal primes usually have larger max apertures which benefits low light shooting an thinner depth of field. a macro lens is usually limited to f/2.8. (the only exception i could think of the top of my head is the Tamron 60mm f/2.0 macro)
second, it's its macro capabilities. true macro lenses has the ability to magnify your subject to 1:1 ratio whereas a normal prime can't do that.
comparatively, macro lenses are nearly always more expensive than its equivalent focal length partner. (not taking f/1.4, f/1.2, f/1.0, f/0.95 into consideration of course)
weigh the pros and cons yourself to see which type of lens do you need more, brighter aperture or macro capabilities?
