Thx for information above  biggrin.gif  quite simple and clear for beginner like me  thumbup.gif
erm ... about 8 , 9 inches...
oh ya , as u can see , the scale shining on level 5 and 6 are all blur , i put it on white tank and open top light for 12 hours per day . but ald pass one month and its show slow development . should i change to side tanning for 24 hours ? realli hope she can cross v full shine  brows.gif

Bear in mind one simple guide for arowana

Red need tanning

Gold no need tan

Put tanning aside..

Background colour comes first..

When i say background colour it has to be fully stick to it..not jz paste some white paper on it..it wont work this way..not solid enug compare to sticker which fully deliver the solid background colour we needed to bring out the arowana colouration..

White background
- enhance shine of an arowana
- pale colouration
- losses core and rims colouration

Blue bg
- core and rims colouration will be at their natural colour

Black bg
- enhance core and rims colouration
- a fake crossback can be identify in a black bg for less experience player..
- a lower quality gold will loss their shine they develop in white bg..

Light wise..
- gold aro, white light for the go..my personal experience..i tried before pink, purple, blue and yellow(gold)..if u wanna see them at their most natural..i would say white..so far the best white tube for gold aro would be T8 aquazonic white tube..

- red arowana.. need tanning for ur red to fully blossom..u can view our page to see my red..or if ure free, come and visit us..lights that produce tanning is a light tube that produces UVB %.. so they are definately not any TFC, t5, price wise usually below rm100 does not produce UVB%..

As for ur gold aro..white tank cover all side with white bg..white fiber tank work best..and 2 tube of white lights on top is good enug..no need side lighting..waste time, money and effort..i tried that already..lol.. as for the durations of lights, as long as does not stress ur aro is good..

Glad to hear that.. i waste lotsa money in order to observe their development..and putting many stress to them at the same time..so i dont wish anyone else to waste their money on useless things that i've done before..especially not to make your precious arowana under great stress..

Looking forward to ur aro development!

Need some advice here.

Say, there is this aro. 1 year half old.
+-30 inches long.
Blue crossback.

She's always one of the quiet type. Never aggresive.

However, this few days, I have noticed a sudden change in behavior.

She seems a bit anxious, and at times, she would jump, and it causes noise and ripple in the water.

What could be causing the problem?

Hi leggedy,

Below are two pictures of my aro :

Sorry, no video.

You were enquiring about the size. It is +-30 inches.
Do you it is a short/tall for her age?

My aro wasn't like this before. She used to be very calm, and were not anxious before.

Nothing much have changed in the way I managed her; same diet, same routine.
The only thing that I can may caused this problem is, it is feeling lonely.

This is because is she used to have two other members (ikan lampam) which shares the aquarium.
Now no more dy..

to my experience 1 and a half years old aro could never hit 30inches..so i was surprise that u said 30inches..

by the look from the pics, i believe it is somewhere 16inches..

if ur aro is fine, with mates or without mates wouldnt be an issue..

how is ur lighting regime?

ur first pics show signs of drop eye or frightened..

and due to the pic isnt clear, i cant tell is it protruding anus or not..

lampang is much likely to be afraid of ur aro..lol

hmm..cant notice any issue on ur fish..black water cant help..

clean water, good filterations, no left over food and weekly water changes do contribute to ur fish health..

i do not know about the bubble issue..but i insist u to maintain good water parameter for time being..lets see what pigpig says when he saw this..he is good about water chemistry and fish illness, learnt many for the sifu..he been busy recently..

LOL you may be right, on the size.
It's more like 30cm, not 30inches =p

Lighting regime?
Am not too sure whether I understood the question very well.
Anyways, I am using a white flourescent lamp. The light is switched on at night (7pm-7am). At other time, the lamo iss switched off.

Frightened?
But of what? I am really concern that she is afraid of something, but couldn't make out what makes her feel that way.

Protruding anus?
Do you mean that she's jumpy because she needs to mate? Hohoh isn't she a bit young to feel that way?

ur lighting regime should be fine..

no idea what it is frightened of....can show pics? a pics of face both side, body, tail..as well as a pic of her anus (her ass)..lol

protruding anus means their anus is in a protruding outwards shape which is abnormal could be due to several issue..
