Hi all sifus. This is my new member in tank. The seller claimed its a Super Hiback, but i can only see 4 or 4.5 rows of scale. Size is about 11-12 inches.

The guy started eating on 2nd day after brought home. But he seem to refuse other foods except superworms. Been feeding grasshoppers, crickets & lizards but all he took was SW. Very picky one sweat.gif

If your aro dont want to eat.. You just fasting it 2-3 days .. After it very hungry any food you give it will eat .. You have to teach your aro to eat variety of food to good diet and can avoid the Drop Eye ..
Yeah thats what i have in mind. Have to fast him for a day or two, thou it feels cruel sweat.gif

BTW i always have feeder fishes for my two bichirs, so he can always eat them if he feels like to.

Hmm..jump out before? The lower fin...
There's a story behind it. He was from a local Pet Gallery. He broke into other Arowana's territory (middle separator failure) and had a great fight. The other arowana badly injured, had his scales fallen off, also fins torn here and there. So my arowana was obviously the winner, he was only slightly injured, his tail & anal fin (the tail recovered only after 2 days).

That was how he got his name, Aragorn biggrin.gif

Injury in circles :

Hi guys!

I am taking an interest in this hobby, especially since my dad has also taken up this hobby (hm not actually hobby, I'd say, as he is involve in selling arowanas for about a year plus now).

I'd like to join in the discussion, if that is alright with you guys smile.gif

Hm, I heard that droopy-eyed Arowana is not very nice.

Could you guys please advise how to 'cure' this?
Hi wave.gif smile.gif

hi, id like to ask what's the maintenance of arowana like?
what aquarium that has good filter would you recommend ?

my friend is giving me her arowana[ about 35-40cm long] thanks
AFAIK, water quality is vital. Although this fish is hardy -they can survive in tough situations- but water quality will determine the coloration & overall quality of arowana.

Ur fren very kind one, girlfren? brows.gif

Mind to share the pic of the gift?

QUOTE(RCrex @ Oct 18 2012, 09:34 PM)
welcome, im new here also
keeping aro since sept
not sure bout the drop eyes, some said put ping pong balls but some stil ended drop eyes, some claimed its a kind of disease...
Ping-pong ball in arowana tank has no scientific proof, so it may have nothing to do with curing DE.

I 'believe' DE can be from unhealthy diet, maybe too much fat, but, who can actually tell..

I hv long history dealing with arowana.

From childhood, i already hv my own. My first experience was with silver arowana, got him since baby. In only 3 months, i managed to bring him to 13" or slightly more. The guy was a great eater, fed him with Hikari Foodsticks, roaches, lizards, grasshoppers, worms, he took them all. After long holiday finished, i hd to return to study, so had to let him go. I gave him to a local shopkeeper, to keep temporarily before finding a new owner. I know the probability is very high that no owner can understand my arowana as well as i do, and later i found that true, somehow. The aro never wana eat since that moment, and he committed suicide (i believe that, ppl will say anything but i dont care) by jumping out from his tank. The shopkeeper returned his body so i can bury him..

This is my 4th arowana experience with Aragorn. Hope everything goes well this time. I gave up keeping arowanas for years, but the thought haunts me back, even in my dreams biggrin.gif

So here i am with Aragorn, together with his tankmates. All i can say now is, i'm a happy arowana owner icon_rolleyes.gif

Just wondering, what is the average lifespan of aro?
Being said "the oldest one recorded in home aquaria is 40 years mate but 20 is a rough guideline"

There's so much saying and beliefs regarding this fish. Quoting from Wikipedia :

QUOTE
One belief is that while water is a place where chi gathers, it is naturally a source of yin energy and must contain an "auspicious" fish such as an arowana in order to have balancing yang energy.[11] Another is that a fish can preserve its owner from death by dying itself.[15]

Yeah its very hard to make ur aro accepts Hikari Stick. But if ur aro accepts it, then he/she will become very healthy. My experience with my late silver, he eats Food Sticks as well as other live foods. So i dont think ur aro will abandon live foods even if he gets used to Pellets. The bigger probability is vice versa biggrin.gif

Been busy recently..well maintained tank..seems clean!!

The turtle will be a headache when they grow large..do they bite?

Hmm..apparently, if i did not mistaken, ur aro show signs of early DE stage..
Thanks.

Fly the PNT does not bite any fishes, had been keeping him for about 4 years. He loves SW very much smile.gif

About the DE, yeah its possible. Cuz he only takes SW all the time. I'm trying to control his diet now.

^ What's SW ?
Lol. SW superworm, MW mealworm, MP market prawn.

I plan to separate my turtle & aro later. Now the water quite difficult to maintain. So i may clear all the sands substrate.
