Ok cause u mentioned MGBB. If blue base and that’s what u are trying to maintain then there is no need to tan. In your case maintaining shine then white tank + intense lighting should be ok. What is your tanning regime? 24 hrs? No experience with your brand of lighting.

No need to change water everyday. I don’t tan my gold Aros. In fact I like the old style look and stay away from golden heads etc. I would recommend u try Xian Long lights. The Aro eating well? No stress signs?

I assume the fish is small and new? Let the fish get use to it's environment first. That's why I asked if the fish is stressed. Tanning can come later. A fish that has adapted and eating well and calm is far better candidate for tanning "if necessary".

At the risk of stunting the Aro, a tank with the minimum of 4ft L x 2ft D x 1.5ft H is recommended. What type of Aro do you plan to get? Please be aware of new tank syndrome and choose the appropriate filter etc. Start right and there will be less issues even more so for a person who has no experience fish keeping. Many new owners give up because they fail to set things up properly and subsequently have to deal with fatalities etc. It is better to ask specific questions and I am sure those here will be glad to help out. smile.gif

Thank you. Need to locate a good place at home first. A 4ft tank might be a bit big. coz I'm planning to use the tank as a partition on my living room. Hope the sifu can help recommend some tips and tricks like where can get the tank, filters and fish at a reasonable price.

I don't know about the rest but no sifu here lol. I understand home restrictions but really 4ft is the minimum for the benefit of the fish as well as the owner. After all u wouldn't want to spend that much money only to not have the fish reach it's full potential. I would advice if you cannot get a 4ft tank then perhaps consider some other kind of fish. What kind of Aro are u looking to keep? Many places to get tanks - Kin Fatt in Kepong, Cheah Aquarium in Ampang, Xian Long in Shah Alam etc. Tell the aquarium what u intend to keep and they will advice appropriately. Some tanks come with built in filters. As for Aro, what is your budget and what type are u looking for? Choosing Aro can be a little challenging for a new comer and there are lots of entities out there that are not very honest.

Try Kin Fatt or Xian Long and see if anything catches your eyes and fits your budgets. Xback can get to 24” just keep that in mind given ideal situation. There also some dealers out of Ipoh that you can buy online but there is always a little risk with those.

Hi ,

Need advice here , planning to buy 4" incho arowana MGBB ? I already 4ft x 1.5 x 1.5 tank with Canister Filter Dophin C1400 .. Cycling my tank now while waiting for baby coming in ..
1. My question is for 4 inch baby Aro , 4 ft tank with Canister flow 1400L/H .. Is it too big or too fast for baby aro to swim in ?
2. Do i still need to change water weekly if just keeping 4 inch baby in 4ft tank ? or can change 2 week once ?
3. Do i need to put tank mate for baby aro or just keep it alone ?
4. any specific lighting good for aro ?
Please advice .. i'm newbie here !!

Congratulations. Please be aware that 1.5ft depth can be a little restrictive when the Aro reaches its full potential. Ideally 2ft since u can imagine if the Aro reaches 24” which is 2ft, turning could be a little difficult. Height 1.5ft no issues.

Dolphin C1400 rating is 1400L/H but actual is not as much. You can use the supplied spray bar to diffuse the return. Observe the fish, if it struggles then slow it down a little.

Ideally water change routine per week is preferable just adapt the percentage of change to feeding regiment and quality of water. Change less or more according to situation.

Most people keep a Lampan or Pleco or something smiliar. Helpful especially when the fish is in a new environment and makes the fish less nervous although also depends on the individual Aros character. Some Aros will kill whatever else is in the tank. Pleco helps will cleanI guess up of any uneaten food and algae.

I don’t advocate tanning gold Aros. If keen to keep the blue based then dark tank brins out the color better over long term. For simple viewing needs, most LED might will do.

Have fun.
