QUOTE(backspace66 @ May 4 2012, 05:58 PM) This is actually very far from the truth....,the basic for fresh grad over here is higher than 5K(basic only),and offshore allowance ranging from zero(if you haven't break out from trainee to field engineer) to 500/day(after you break out) depending on segment.Fresh grad FE after b/o should be getting a salary around 7k...,but your figure is quite spot on for a field specialist though which only have diploma. Is it standard across SLB and its groups? If so, then my junior kena conned. Haha. I got the figures from him. He is a degree holder.Added on May 4, 2012, 6:01 pm rm100/day...lemme guess,Petronas? Added on May 4, 2012, 7:27 pm QUOTE(k.mark45 @ May 4 2012, 06:10 PM) not even equal to client level. just a contractor. Their offshore allowances kena cut if they choose to bunk at platform. Some of them prefer daily tripping. pet just gave out its staff 100/day? that is really2 low This post has been edited by noruazumi: May 4 2012, 07:27 PM |

QUOTE(paradox @ May 21 2012, 10:08 AM) Hello Guys, I want to ask your opinion. I offered to work with KSTB as a trainee management. Salary offered more than 30% of my old salary. Based on the information provided, I will work as an trainee management for a year before absorbed into permanent employees. I can not find another job during the training period, if not I will be subject to penalty. After one year, if I am offered a permanent employee, I will be be bound a contract for 2 years. Should I accept this offer? It is hard for me to say whether you should or should not accept the offer. However, 30% is a good figure - provided your "cost" for you to go to work remains the same. At the same time, you need to ask yourself whether the offered position is something that you really want to do now and in the future. If there is no passion, prolly you won't last long in that organization. Job satisfaction vs. monetary reward is always a big factor for everybody. If you think the juice worth the squeeze, then by all means, go for it.Added on May 21, 2012, 10:54 amAnd to the young future engineers, there is no easy way to get things and it applies to entering O&G as well. It is best for you to assess yourself whether you are up for the challenge especially if you wish to work in offshore environment where you will be at the platform for weeks, working 12 hours a day minimum, having less interaction with people onshore, the risk & hazards and etc. After you do that, then you have to go through list of O&G companies in Malaysia - client, user, operator, main con, sub con and etc. From there, you have to do groundwork to get yourself in one of those organizations. Everybody here did the same thing and you should too. If you can't even spend time to read all the information in this thread and previous threads, I honestly think that you can't be a good engineer in O&G and any other industries. p/s: If you think that being an engineer in O&G industry is lucrative, you have to think again. Only those with niche qualifications, certifications and skills will be rewarded. Others will be about the same with other industries but maybe slightly higher, depending on the organization. QUOTE(echobrainproject @ May 22 2012, 10:54 AM) since most likely w be bringing laptop might carry a mini synth w me. my prev job i traveled w my macbook + korg. anyways, ive yet to go offshore. what do u guys pack for offshore? lets say for 4 weeks QUOTE(spawn89 @ May 22 2012, 11:25 AM) Hmm.. sufficient toiletries, PPEs, laptop with a lot of movies and games (gamepad for multiplayer) it'd be fun, medicine if applicable, I Talk card if you need to use public phone (contractor), not too many clothes because you can send them to laundry 2 times a day. Yeah, spawn89 covered most of the stuffs. Just pack light because you can send your clothes to laundry. But make sure not to bring your good shirts, pants and boxers coz the washing machine at offshore is pretty "hardcore". BTW, a few new platforms got gym, and got music instruments like guitars. So no need to "smuggle" ukulele lah. Hahaha. |

QUOTE(figuremeout @ May 22 2012, 06:25 PM) agree and i personally think that some of the forumers@so called otai here blindly assumed everyone wants to be spoonfed. this thread has become a place to brag about their experience and shut down new comers. I personally don't feel like people here to brag about this and that. Generally, I find people here are quite friendly. If you go to Real World Issue, they are more "hostile". Haha. Anyway, newcomers should take this "virtual pressure" as opportunity to learn on how to handle real pressure on the field. It is a good exercise on how to deal with people. |

I don't think the merge between Sapura and Kencana will guarantee them projects. As far as I know, the merge will expand their capabilities (and capital) in tackling much bigger and challenging projects. As for MHB (fka MMHE), PETRONAS holds minor share in the company. So, there should be some projects for MHB too. As of now, there are only these 2 big local fabricators in Malaysia. Last time we have SDE and Ramunia, but both are no longer in the market. I heard there is one tycoon in telco wants to venture into O&G too. Already had the company listed in US stock board - not very sure tho coz I only heard this from someone.
And to add, it also depends on clients whether they want things to be fabricated in Malaysia or not. There is this one project, client opted to open the tender to international fabricators because one of those 2 big local fabricators gave them a really high price during budgetary stage. So, not sure whether international or local will win the project. This post has been edited by noruazumi: May 23 2012, 10:35 AM |

QUOTE(jarod89 @ May 23 2012, 11:55 AM) is there any room for a Marketing and Promotion executive to work in an OIL and GAS industry ? There are plenty jobs for non-technical positions in O&G. Most famous that suits your credentials would be Sales. There are several titles such as Sales & Technical, Sales & Application, Application, Sales & Marketing and etc. Good luck!what sort of jobs are available for a graduate in Marketing in O&G industry ? Thanks Tai Kors =) |

I have a principal in UK. The project engineer is the one that does installation, testing, commissioning and service on thei equipments whether they are at offshore or onshore.
Normally, when it comes to Project Engineer, it is more towards PMT (Project Management Team) and Service Engineer is more to servicing equipments. But it all depends on how one organisation defines them. In your case, I would say it is more towards both Service & Project. |

Like on the recent accident at the onshore facility, from what I heard (from another operator), personnel already smelled the gas but no further investigation been carried out. Then when contractor came in to do the job, the contractor kena and all the fingers point at the contractor.

QUOTE(zerouzer @ Jun 14 2012, 01:35 AM) hey guys. say if i've worked with a company that isnt OnG but related to energy industry, say as engineer at Malakoff or TNB, is my experience relevant at all if i were to go into OnG? or will i start off like a fresh grad? Depending on which division you are right now (e.g. generation, distribution, protection, etc.), your experience might become handy in operation and maintenance. Relevant or not, it is hard to say right now without details of your current SOW. Best bet, whenever you see any vacancy in operation or maintenance, go ahead and apply.Added on June 14, 2012, 12:21 pm QUOTE(KVReninem @ Jun 14 2012, 01:37 AM) HV at offshore is LV for TNB.
