thanks noru! will they reply if i apply through the website? the chances seems slim..

That's the only way I know to apply for a position in PETRONAS. I don't know how fast will they respond, but if you suit their requirements, they will contact you. I heard some got called the day after he submitted to PETRONAS. Some have to wait for a year. No harm to try. Plus, PETRONAS is hiring lots of people now.

If you are a fresh grad, chances for you to go into any fields is high as compared to the experienced ones. As long as the field doesn't go way off from what you have studied.

However, there are few cases where by PETRONAS hired EE grads for PE positions. That was due to insufficient number of candidates.

I hope this will clear any doubts raised by our future and potential engineers out-there. smile.gif

I dont know much bout postgrads scholar, but from what I know you can either:
1. use EPF to fund your study
2. ask your employee to fund for your study (my friend is WD did this with no bond)

i'm using my epf for funding biggrin.gif

it's better if u go for full time since the fees are quite low compared to those who did for part time. my total fees are around 4k+ while part time are around 20k+. this is only for utm. i dont know about other uni. heheh
*
Are you doing coursework or research?

p/s: better to optimize your EPF tho... coz some other people using other people's EPF money like it is their personal piggy bank. tongue.gif

i'm doing coursework since it's much easier. basically the coursework is like a conversion course where most of us are from different background of engineering, not petroleum engineering. those are doing research are usually from petroleum engineering degree.

i'd prefer to spend my money on my education rather than spending it in some sort of unit trust funding. hahaha
*
UTM offers such course to "convert" non-PE to PE? I didn't know that. I've asked about their M.Eng Electrical with Dr Syed - he is very nice and encouraging.

Hi guys, may I know what I need to prepare for interview on UPS manufacture as service engineer? What question to expect from the interviewer? Need some advise to prepare as I was from other field before. Thanks.
*
You may need to understand basic electrical system and type of UPS.

Read something about rectifier and inverter in UPS. Also read briefly about batteries especially lead acid and nicd.

Usually, service engineer will be given training before you are assigned to carry out servicing works.

thanks for the heads up smile.gif

btw per say for an add like this, if a candidate were to apply for  multiple positions so how to proceed??single email/mail resume application stating the various positions interested or multiple emails/mails according to the number of positions to be applied? hmm.gif
*
I have received the same email from a friend in that company. Most prolly you have to apply through the website. If they provide an email address, you may want to make a cover letter and state you are interested in a few of the positions. One cover letter should do, IMHO.

hi friends.!

i want to ask ur opinion about my situation.

i'm fresh grad & cekap technical services offer me to apply for position as process engineer as detail as below:

- We are  looking a suitable candidate for our bidding submission as per below :

Client : EXXON (EMEPMI)
Work Location :  KL office/Onshore/Offshore
Duration : 5 years + 1 year
Position :Process Engineer

& they want me to complete letter of consent & must state this thing in dat letter:

My all inclusive DAILY RATE shall be as follows.

1. KL Office  : RM   / day (10 hrs)

2. Onshore Site  : RM   / day (10 hrs)

3. Offshore Site  : RM   / day (12 hrs)

what is reasonable number to fill in the blank??
*
For fresh grads to be seconded, reasonable rates are as the following:

1. KL Office : RM 450/day (10 hrs) - RM45/hour

2. Onshore Site : RM 450/day (10 hrs) - RM45/hour

3. Offshore Site : RM 900/day (12 hrs) - RM75/hour

Rate depends on SOW and other allocations/allowances. For offshore, often you are entitled to hardship allowance.

wow thats quite high.

anyways, i am wondering since most engineering grads from UK are on a 3 year program, besides getting Masters, any other way to be registered? Ive also heard things like get registered w the board in UK.

this is damn too high...as far as i know offshore site per day would be around RM250+/day ..per hours do your math..

Added on May 3, 2012, 9:07 am

manufacturing plants offer opportunity working in offshore/onshore environment? hmm.gif
*
In KL, engineers with 2-3 years experience that are being supplied to Consultant charge is around RM60/hour, some RM120/hour.

What I wrote the above is the rate charged to a company, not being paid to the engineers. As what have been mentioned, the dude is being offered to be seconded to EMEPMI via another company.

Can always adjust the rate to meet requirements.

Don't get confused with allowance by our own company. Our allowance always low. Hahaha. My offshore rate is around RM800-RM1200 per day if I do freelance job. If under company, RM200 only. Adoi! Haha.

btw thats quite high compare to others i guess.
*
Once in a blue moon, I get a call to carry out offshore job - either via another company or directly from Client. I will take unpaid leave and take the job as individual not as a company rep. My current company has no issue about this. Usually the job will only take 3-5 days. That's the justification of my rate. Hope that explains. smile.gif

Hehe... Best way is to look at how much you want per week. Then divide it by 40 hours / week. Usually, even if you are being paid by hours, there are minimum hours that you need to serve. 40 hours is the regulated hours.

If I'm Fresh Grads, I will look into RM4000 to RM6000 per month max. You can cap it at RM4000 if you are not confident enough to get that job.

is it rm4k is include offshore allowance?
*
Since the structure is different, you have to include offshore allowance too. Just for your reference, a fresh grad engineer in SLB gets RM3,500 basic and RM200/day offshore allowance.

You need to check how extensive you need to travel to offshore and the allocation provided. Kinda hard for me to guess, but for your case, I think RM6000 all-in is a fair amount.

Remember to ask about EPF, insurance, medical coverage and all.
