I've search through their website but no hiring for fresh grad like me currently ?
btw how would u guys think if i started with AS then move to the field in future? will the other OnG comp consider me ?
*
I got a friend in WFT, he told me fresh grads are acceptable as long as they have good results. Structured and comprehensive training will be provided. Mostly involve wireline.

IMHO, doing engineering and working at field are two different ball games but I don't see anything wrong with it as long as you can prove you have the hands-on capabilities. But again, your resume will only show your engineering experience.

Doing engineering is not a bad thing, quite rewarding in few years time. Field work is not for everybody - physically & mentally.

Yeah i know, tats y i hope to have that experience when im still capable (young smile.gif ) with both physically & mentally, cos im really hope to expo to this kind of environment for my career, dun wish to end up my career in office , everyday paper work ..... thats not the reason i studied Eng...
and u mean rewarding in term of $$ ?
btw , are u currently working in an OnG comp ?
*
Yes, $$... What else? It seems like that's the only reason why people want to "venture" into O&G. Just look at all the posts. biggrin.gif

Me? I'm doing electrical, not drilling or anything. So, it is not really specified to O&G. I'm doing marine as well.

but working engineering design wont be that rewarding as field work rite ? although $ is one concern , but i just dont wish to stay office forever  sweat.gif
ic ic , btw thanks alot for the advice and info  laugh.gif

Up to you. Only you can decide that. If you are in the position of deciding and selecting lah. biggrin.gif

Can't simply say field is more rewarding than office. It depends on the situations and individuals. There is this lead engineer I know gets RM40k/month not including OT.

Whatever it is whether field or office, if you don't have the passion, it means nothing.

Why people worry about this TMH?

It looks like an engineering house for FPSO or something.

*
How the medical check-up goes? As far as I know, you will be tested for Hep-B and others. But I am not sure the deciding factor for the doctor to declare you fit or not fit to work offshore.

+1  thumbup.gif

but our company does provide us with SGD200 budget per person every year to go to certain approved optometric shops in s'pore to do prescription safety glasses.
Does your company allow you to belanja other people, i.e people from LYN forum, to make presciption safety glass?

Hahaha. J/k.

QUOTE(echobrainproject @ Jul 23 2012, 10:25 AM)
talking about glasses, im new in the industry. and have always been wearing contact lenses.
didnt occur to me but should i make one? contact lense recommended?

nothing mentioned during medical checkup, boset, etc
*
If you work at site, best to use something fixed. Contact lens can fall off your eyes. Prescription glass looks cool. biggrin.gif

I wear my daily glass to platform. When required, I just put on my goggle on top of it.

As indicated by ch_teo, his company allocated SGD200 for prescription safety glass.

Salam..i nk tnya anyone maybe tau what actually company consultant oil and gas buat eh?i mean, electrical engineer in that company.anyone pls..

You will prolly do conceptual design, front-end engineering design or detailed engineering. There will be list of deliverables (which are required drawings/datasheet/documents/etc) for you to prepare based on self-calculation and designs, and also supports from vendors/suppliers. Common tools are ETAP or EDSA for simulation purposes. You will be exposed to structured training by your Lead or Senior. For the first 2 years, most prolly you will only have to prepare or compile datasheet, maybe.

Starting salary for fresh grads, not sure. My junior joined RWP for RM2,500/mth.

hi all.
my husband just got an offer as mech n piping engr at one of o&g comp.
but the offer is contract one year n will be renewed every year. (that's what the HR said btw).
how long will it take for him to become permanent staff?

thanks.
*
It depends. Contract staffs will not necessarily absorb into permanent staffs, and vise-versa. It depends on the projects and requirements. Usually, contract staffs will be paid higher than permanent staffs because contract staffs will not entitled to every single benefits that the company offers to the permanent staffs. Make sure to read the contract documents properly. I know that there are many companies use this "contract positions" to get cheap labours.

Added on July 30, 2012, 10:54 amoh yeah one more thing, does that mean contract worker won't get increment and bonus also?i don't think i saw that part in my hubb's offer letter.hmmm...

I don't think he will be entitled to increment and bonus, but I might be wrong. Good luck.
