Petronas has its own scholars. My guess is that Petronas will give priority to its scholars first for employment.

It should be Instrument Engineer. Sometimes it's called Instrument and Control Engineer.

I had been offer for a position as a planner in one oil and gas service company. Can I know what is the difference of between planner and project manager in terms of job scope ? or it is just a job title?

And perhaps someone could give opinion regarding the job prospect of a planner? I have a degree in chem eng with one year exp. in Palm oil mill- currently plan to jumpship to O&G. Now seems I have the opportunity but I am worry now if i accept the job will I be shift to more on management rather than technical ?

with only 1 year experience outside O&G, most likely when u enter you will start off just like a fresh grad.

there is a huge difference between a project manager and a planner.
project manager manages the entire project team (a lot of responsibility) and the project.
Planner plans, schedules, update/monitors/revises the progress, provide reports on progress, etc.
Slightly more towards management side, but u will def learn what everyone's role is and how a project is done.

For Mechanical engineering student, BAB will put you under commissioning team, installation team or package engineer team..
As for graduate trainee, your senior/supervisor will ask your help to assist them on hands on work which is at vendor fabrication yard or at Shipyard. This is the fun begin, as most of FPSO project will execute at overseas (Singapore etc), require you to travel to yard.. Working onshore on board the FPSO.. Amount of allowance you will receive is good..
If you under commissioning or installation team, they may require you to go offshore during commissioning and hook up (1 month to 4 months)..
There is no requirement for you to work on OSV..

Working environment in BA is good for entry level if you manage to be it's graduate engineer, you will learn, experience and master your knowledge.. 5-6 years later, if you decide to join other company like SBM, etc, working environment in new company should be easier for you..

i think with 5 years experience, you could probably get 8K in petronas, but I can't confirm this as I'm not working with them.
