But i got fren work at Schlumberger, his earning is superb also

i agree that schlumberger pays its "slaves" very high, but that doesn't mean it is the largest o&g company in the world! whistling.gif

Should let PETRONAS rolls with the big boys and open tender available blocks. See if PETRONAS can compete with the big boys or not.  tongue.gif
*
Why should Malaysia government allow other operators to monopolize blocks in Malaysia waters? That is a stupid thing to do. It's our blocks, so we run our own blocks our way.

In Malaysia, why should Petronas compete with other oil & gas companies for the blocks? The sensible development plan is to engage other oil & gas companies to JV to operate the blocks and share the costs.

Are you not patriotic? hmm.gif

Join Petronas .... but then again I'm a bit biased because that's how I started my career.
*
On the contrary, I recommend you join a contractor. You will learn a lot more working for a contractor than working for Petronas. You should only join an O&G operator after you've gained experience.

But again, I might also be biased because that's how I started my career. But I got to do real hands-on engineering work, be a real engineer, got my PE, before I continued my career with O&G operators. And money's good! brows.gif

Project Engineer lah sayang.  doh.gif

Why must u assume professional engineer, not petroleum engineer ke project ke..
*
if Im not mistaken, the current minimum relevant working experience required to sit for a Malaysia PE exam is 5 years. IEM is now conducting the exam on behalf of Board of Engineers, Malaysia. Now the PE-wannabes need to attend some specialised classes, like ethics, before they can sit for the exam.

Thanks for the info...actually i'm interested to apply as a technical executive electrical/instrumentation. A bit familiar with single line diagram (Electrical) and P&ID diagram (Instrumentation) since my background is an electrical-control & instrumentation. But of course i don't know what is the MMHE requirement for this job position....really exited to try it.....
*
if you have CGPA min 3.0 or second class upper, why dont you apply to work in the O&G engineering consultants for instrumentation engineer post?

write to them; aker, worley, rnz, mmc, technip.

Hi all,
is Petronas consider a government company and working under Petronas categorized as civil servant? Cause I was wondering whether JPA will send us there or not...
*
Petronas is not a government company but a GLC company. Petronas staff are not civil servants; salary scale, benefits, bonus, are different (and no pension) from govt.

I see. I just wanted to know whether JPA scholars can work with Petronas or not to clear off the bonding.

Petronas has its own scholars. My guess is that Petronas will give priority to its scholars first for employment.

Oil and Gas Experts, I need your help in deciding which job offer I should choose. Any advice is very much appreciated.  notworthy.gif

I am a fresh graduate, and this shall be my first job in oil and gas industry. Hence, I want to treasure this golden opportunity and make the best of it. For that, the salary is not really a primary deciding factor. I want to prioritize in accumulating knowledge and experience, as to build my competences in this industry.

Which job is the best, especially in term of job prospect and career advancement?

1. TL Offshore Sdn. Bhd. (a SapuraKencana Petroleum company)
Field of Work of Company: Offshore Construction (International), Offshore Construction & Subsea Services. Transportation, erection and installation of offshore pipelines and facilities.
Post: Junior Engineer.
My Possible Job Scope: being a field engineer. Other task is to use spreadsheet programs to perform engineering calculations.
2. Aker Engineering Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.
Field of Work of Company: concept and feasibility studies, front-end engineering design and detailed engineering for new oil and gas production facilities offshore. (essentially this company is oil and gas consultant).
Post: Graduate Engineer.
My Possible Job Scope: involved in HVAC design.

I like to perform engineering calculation and analyse theories. I am not saying that I will not perform project management, if I am assigned such task. I would prefer to deal with equipment, than to be involved in project management (handling client and contractors, attending meeting).
As for the job offer by TL Offshore Sdn. Bhd., I am told by HR department to collect and sign the Letter of Appointment tomorrow. Thus, I need to make the decision right now.

Thank you for your advice, guys. I would certainly appreciate any comment and advice.  notworthy.gif

If you want to be a 'real engineer', go to Aker. Build up your engineering acumen first before you move to project management.

Agreed with the above comment. Field experience should come first before design. From field experience, you know how things work, how to maintain and operate a certain equipment, then only you know how to design stuffs that are practical, maintenance and operation friendly.
I have met a lot of new engineers design platforms without any field experience. As a result, there are a lot of problems occurred during the HUC and operation. For me, it is simple. If you design something, make sure u go to field also to confirm again, what you see in P&ID, pictures and GA drawings do not necessary tell the whole story, there are many things that you will discover when you see it for yourself onsite. It only applies for brown field project. smile.gif
*
from my experience in the engineering consultanc, for any brownfield project, usually the job will not be given to junior engineers. brownfield project is very messy and requires experienced engineers to handle the work.

You'll be surprised that there are quite many new engineers (from consultant) involved in the brownfield project.  biggrin.gif

i was in the o&g consultancy for more than 15 years. during my time leading a brownfield project, junior engineers were assigned only minor works. we relied on senior engineers for the major part of the work. you could screw up a brownfield project if you didnt do it properly. as a matter of fact, sometime clients insisted only senior engineers to be involved in a brownfield project.

im not sure about the consultants' present practice as far as assigning work to their engineers for brownfield projects. now im on the client side, i will always insist on senior engineers (from consultants) to work in brownfield projects for the company.
