You want such high credit limit for what? Still need to pay back in a month, and if you got the money you can overpay first so that effective credit limit higher anyway.
*
I want more CL for my Maybank credit cards but they won't give it to me because I don't have salary slip and my BE Form income is like pathetic compared to what I had years ago. But thanks to zenquix, he taught me there is an easier way to get increase in CL by simply calling Customer Service, i.e. request for temporary increase in CL which is good for up to 3 months.

I just got back from Hong Kong & Macau and used up quite a lot of my CL and I am going overseas again next week. So, called MBB to request for temporary increase in CL recently and it was approved in less than 5 working days.

But there are scenarios where bank provide credit card product for people that apply housing loan/car loan. As a customer, we have the right not activate the card if we think we don't want it.
*
Banks DO NOT provide credit cards automatically with housing loan but the loan/bank officer have to seek your consent if credit card(s) can be issued to you. And if you did not read or blindly say yes and sign on whatever form ( or by teleconversation which is recorded), you may even get 2 credit cards giving same benefits! Bank staff have many monthly quota to meet and one of them is getting new applicants for credit cards.

To All who are thinking of "free" air tickets:

Click here to read my article Malaysia Airlines Enrich Miles 50% Sale - Great for My Maybank Visa Infinite Treats Points if you have not. With 50% sale, it may be worth while to convert our TP to Enrich Miles especially if you are earning 5XTP for every Ringgit spent.

Recently at Airport Lounge Thread I mentioned that I redeem my MBB VI TP for Enrich Miles (4500TP = 1000 Enrich Miles) and then I use the Enrich Miles from my Enrich Mile Account to get my daughter economy return ticket from Melbourne to KL and for myself 2 economy return air tickets from Kl to Melbourne. Yes, we can use our Enrich Miles to purchase air tickets for our loved ones.

Today, I once again redeem my MBB VI Treats Points for Enrich Miles as I wanted to reward my son with a business class ticket LA to KL as a graduation reward next May. For his internal US flight he can use his UA Milage points. However, this time I did not redeem the Enrich Miles into my Enrich Account but directly into my son's Enrich account smile.gif

So conclusion:

1. we can use our Enrich Miles to redeem ticket online for our loved one. If you do it by phone thru CS, very troublesome, need to go to MA counter and with letter somemore.
2. we can convert out MBB Treats Points to Enrich Miles credited into anyone's account thumbup.gif

p.s. Mods - can I start a Thread on Enrich Miles since we are issued an Enrich Card for our account and as one of the Admin label this section - Living on credit? Get the best bang for your buck!

Hi, I have some question regarding credit card approval.

I never had any credit card before (1st time applying for a credit card) & my salary is RM24k per annum. I just want to apply a card mostly for online shopping.

I applied the Citibank Gold Visa & just received a letter from them today stating that they're unable to offer me a Citibank credit card at this point in time.

Does this mean I will not be able to apply for any Citibank credit card anymore? And will this also indicate that it will be difficult for me to apply a credit card from other bank(s)?

Thank you for any kind suggestions & advices in advance.
*
You can try apply for Citibank credit card in few months time. Try applying with the bank your salary is deposited into. But if purely for online shopping, I would think Public Bank cash back Debit Cards are pretty good where your name is embossed onto the card.

** End of 2012 / New Year Greetings **

user posted image

It's that time of the year again for me to write that New Year Greetings

2012 in review (I may not have capture all of the essence in totality and this is just my personal opinion, do excuse me)

- MBB continues to dominate the local credit card market for local bank issuers. Thanks to their MBB's Maybankard 2 cards products which in my opinion swept the general market and their MBB VI and WMC which (I believe) equally dominate the Premier cards segment. It's interesting because a few years back they were nowhere and nobody (including myself) wants to be associated with their cards. Back then it was cool to own a Citibank card. Now, they are so large - I believe they even destroyed Citibank former domination of the local credit card market.

- BNM unsecured credit controls limits credit card growth. Both good and bad. Good to limit unsecured credit to new job market entrants. Bad coz gone are the days where you can use your old card as reference.

- Cash Back cards (OCBC TI and MBB Maybankard 2 Amex as such examples) are the "In thing". In these hard times, consumers look for value and the banks response. My personal opinion it's good to have such products but often I see consumers are not realistic with the expectation of "returns". I will always reassert my stand that banks are a commercial money making entity. It's scary that the Malaysian public such mentality over such "subsidies". Get real folks - these are the mentality of 3rd world countries. If you want Malaysia to be someday recognized as a developed country then let's all do our part.

- GST for credit card continues to exist and I'm not proud being the only country in the world which practices such. Folks, do read between the lines. The government are hard press for money and curbing credit card growth is just an excuse to collect money from the public. It's sad to see our hard earned money collected as taxes being used for populist subsidy policies. I hope GST will be removed by next year - my wish.

- The biggest snafu is perhaps SCB's review of their credit card positioning strategy. With the removal of the points and rebate system, it looks as if they are preparing to exit the market. But at the same time, they are also attempting to retain their customers. It's rather confusing as to where they are heading but I guess we will have to wait for a few months before SCB unveils their new loyalty programme. (If any) Their recent "Cash Giveaway" programme was simply mind boggling. It'll be interesting to see how will they shape up in the year 2013.
To end it all ... I look forward to the year 2013 with the hope that, we'll see more great products coming from the banks. (It better be ... otherwise it'll be very boring letting MBB have all the fun)  And I wish for all members to continue using credit cards in a positive manner as a great financial tool.
Before I forget, a big and warm thanks to all contributing members - especially those who has been the pillar of growth for this forum. They are Gen-X  thumbup.gif , alexwsk, Human Nature, zenquix, WaCKy-Angel, fly126 (I noticed your contributions in 2012), (my fellow mods) brother MilesAndMore  biggrin.gif  & boon, ronnie, winner, David83, cenkudu, wshoh, chemistry, cute_boboi and not forgetting others who has equally contributed as well.

Nice New Year greeting "card" Bro and I do appreciate you taking the trouble to design it for us notworthy.gif

Very good summary on matters relating to credit card for 2012 thumbup.gif

QUOTE(LostAndFound @ Dec 31 2012, 08:58 AM)
Wah nice summary post =)
...........if want to complain about government collecting money from public there are many other things to complain and not just related to credit card specifically (I'm surprised general consumption GST not implemented yet, good to have threatening opposition =p). I think its good to limit credit card use/application among those who likely to build much debt. Don't want the country to be a nation of CC-debt-bankrupts. Just see how many people ask about cash advance from CC and how to get CC which is above their income earning capacity here.
*
I fully agree to the above points.

On the other hand, for "crazy card collectors"like me, the GST is depriving me the opportunity to "shiok sendiri" and owning unless cards that do not benefit me, hahahaha doh.gif Will be publishing my article showing my card collection titled My Credit Cards 2013 come 1.18am 1/1/2013.

Happy Chinese New Year 2013 smile.gif

As some of you may be aware, I am kind of "blind" and since I don't have my 23" screen while I am overseas, I am not online most of the time as my eyes get tired very fast reading text on my Android Phone or iPhone5 or iPad or 14" Notebook. And there is a 17" Dell Laptop around but my son is like playing games with it all the time. Now using the 14 notebook and my eyes are already "tired".

Firstly, I would like to thank all of you who have taken the trouble to inform me that one of my blog is down.

I was surprised too that google have removed my blog. Actually I am extremely disappointed that my articles (hard work that kills me since I will chain smoke while I am in front of my 23" computer screen) that I write for free to benefit others cannot be read (maybe the person up there is hinting to me not to waste my time blogging, haha). However I am currently overseas and will update you guys in a couple weeks time when I am back home.

As for credit cards, for more than a month I have been using my Maybank Visa Infinite only since I am overseas.

and Miles - here is Alliance Bank, Maybank, OCBC and UOB Privilege/Premier Banking Red Packets with my CNY greeting.

Once again Happy Chinese New Year and may you be blessed with abundant fortune, good health and endless happiness.

Thanks for the advise. Actually I forgot my password for my gmail and as such could not find out why they deleted my blog..... and when I was overseas, google kept asking for my overseas number eventho I entered my Malaysia hp number correctly. Anyway, blogspot automated classification blocked my blog because they classified it as spam. I have request that my blog be reinstated and if they don't, I have decided that I will stop blogging.

Hi Gen X.. Welcome back.

So sorry to hear about ya blog. My friends and I use them as our credit card bible page. We went lost for a bit when it was removed. Can your fans write in as support for you to Google? What I get is that Google thought its some automated update and classified it as spam. The good side to this is your eyes can take a break from the constant reading and blogging.

Eventually we have to be stopped being spoonfed and venture on our own. I roughly got the style of your cc assessment techniques and tried it on my own. Just applied for the new HLB Wise CC.

Take care and rest well.. Im pretty sure a lot will appreciate the financial awareness you share in your blog. Thanks.
*
Thank you Sir your post above and wanting to write to google, I do appreciate it. Google have yet to response to my request to restore my genxgenygenz.blogspot. The thing is I don't have access to my latest articles too and as such I can't copy and post them and the other previous blogs at my older creditcardsmalaysia.blogspot and generationsxyz.blogspot. Anyway, if google do not restore it, it's fine with me because like I said, the person puling the strings up there must be telling me to stop blogging, haha.

I am glad that you now can evaluate and choose the right credit card(s) for your own spending pattern smile.gif

Hi all,
I'm using Alliance Platinum card right now, would like to ask in order to ask for the waiver of annual fees, I do need to swipe 12 times per year.

but it going to expire by May 2013, if I start using it form today with transaction like RM10 petrol 5 times per week until April (when it reached 12 times).

Will I eligible to ask for the annual fee waiver? It is up to any amount of retail transaction right?
*
What you mentioned above should work; but, keeping the card will cost you RM50 in GST.

QUOTE(coo|dude @ Feb 26 2013, 12:45 PM)
anyone know of any non-business credit card that offers cheque facility?

I think both RHB and Hong Leong Bank offer this, but it is only for those who own a business. I am looking for the same for non business owners.
*

I guess what you looking for is unsecured loan facility. Citibank Ready Credit is one of them but the interest rates is just as high as cash withdrawal.

For short term unsecured loan facility using credit card limit, check out HLB Balance Transfer 3 to 6 months where they will deposit cash into your account. Click here to check out my article HLB CC What Are They Good For at my old blog. However, they is no promo "low" interest rate for Cash-On Call currently.

BNM ruling to qualify for a credit card -

Minimum age 21
Minimum income RM24K/year.

So, even if you are a student, technically you are eligible for a Principal credit card if you meet the above 2 conditions but you still be subjected to the card issuer(s) credit evaluation.

1. Not really sure what you mean. Is it that your card is suspended? I guess you can if the credit card account is still active e.g. you still receive monthly statements based on 16 digits account.
2. No. The other bank/card issuer will deposit funds into your CC account.

Hi guys, way back on 1st January 2013 I published an article titled My Bragging Rights and My Credit Cards 2013 at my main blog which have been subsequently deleted by google. Anyway I just published an article at my previous blog (which have yet to be deleted by google), So if you are interested, click here to see My Credit Cards as of January 2013.

In the above mentioned article, besides going on a bragging spree, I also touched on conversion of MBB Treats Points earned with my MBB Visa Infinite to Enrich Miles.

I just came back and read a letter from Maybank, they credited RM100 into my MBB VI account for being the TOP 500 spender in Nov 2012 -Jan 2013 blink.gif I am surprised to be in the Top 500 category considering that (1) it did not include my MBB2 AMEX transactions for December 2012 where I bought Air Asia budget airline tickets for my family up to December 2013 and (2) I don't think I spend more than RM100K with the VI during this said period.

And last month I got a called from MBB inviting me to play golf laugh.gif which does not interest me.

With the above, what I conclude is MBB Visa/MC card users don't spend that much compared to other Premier credit cards (e.g. CIMB and UOB) because I am sure many of them use it to buy Rolex watches (or other luxury timepieces) or business or first class air tickets. Anf if they using their SCB VI, well they are not that smart.

So it is not surprising that MBB is now targeting high net worth people, click below link to read more.

http://biz.thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?f...02&sec=business

And more importantly, many premier card holders are missing out the fantastic 5X TP for not owning the MBB VI. So those of you who do spent your money overseas, better you click here and read my review of the Maybank Visa Infinite - The Best Credit Card for Overseas.

Recently I apply for this UOB credit card. Thn i received the UOB platinium One card 1 month ago. But then I changed my mind to not use the card, so I did not activate the card at all.

Today, I recieved a letter from UOB. When I opened it and surprisingly it is the bill statement. How would I get a bill statement when I not even activate the card?! The bill statement is RM50 for GST.

So I call UOB for confirmation. The operator told me that I did not activate the card but charges for RM50 GST is automatically applied when the card is approved no matter the card is activated or not.

I felt like being cheated. So I asked her to cancel the card and reverse the RM50 charge. The operator told me the charge is cannot be reversed. So I must pay the RM50 even I want to cancel the card.

I felt totally WTF. First they charge me RM50 without my card being activated. No sms, email and letter to notice me about it. The worst part it that, I can't even use the card because it is not activated!!

So is this action by UOB consider SCAM? What should I do? any advice?
*
You are not the first one to complain on the GST due to own ignorance. GST is charged upon issuance of card, you not happy with it, go complain to BNM.

And what you mean by no SMS or letter bro? The card is in your hand right?

You signed the application form means you agree to pay GST (go read the application form and see or not that it was mentioned you be charged RM50 GST). You wish not to activate the card when you got the card; and therefore it cannot be used, so how is that the bank's fault?

FYI, credit cards do not necessary need to be activated (e.g. MBB) and can be used immediately upon receiving it.

To ALL:

I am finally happy with my HLB Platinum card because I now can get 20% discount at Tai Thong and 10% at Oriental Group restaurants.

erm, would like to ask the credit limit for OCBC titanium? cause been in a case where when it's time to pay for hospital bill, credit limit on current MBB card not enough..those people who initially came with you to the hospital tend to magically disappear when the bill comes...lesson learned, so, need to know the credit limit so i can consider other options if ocbc can't meet the credit limit i'm looking for, preferably 10k credit and above.

The credit limit, is it up to the bank to provide right? What criteria do they base on?
*
If one is earning less than RM36K per year, the maximum credit limit shall not be more than 2X his/her monthly salary.

As for OCBC credit limit, well, there is no general rule on credit limit but subject to case by case basis. Some people's application are even rejected even though they claim to have excellent credit history.

Anyway, if one does earn RM36K per year, it is odd that he/she cannot afford (or not willing) to get a medical card. With the medical card, one does not have to worry about hospital bills at private hospitals.

If you are talking about paying other people's medical bills at Private Hospitals, RM10K CL may not be enough too (especially if surgery is required).
