at least you give your parents, some people dont even give or give little thats why they can buy all the nice stuffs
LOL where have you been living? ghetto? uk usa and aus shop and go on holidays to europe/asia like there's no tomorrow. they dont even save money.

that has to do with properties right? most people have their parents pay their downpayments

they cannot own house, own expensive car,

but malaysians also go holiday like hell even if exchange rate is high,

so in theory we spend at least 10x more than they do but still managed to afford it and do it.

They do it because their money is bigger.

So means we are sooo much richer no?

if the theory of 'cannot cari makan' is right, you are not supposed to be able to save at all.

yes they do, their housing is only what 200-300k AUD and below 400k quid for nice 2-3 bedrooms in city centre? for the same here is about 800-1mil in kl and its smaller too

the malaysians i know dont go on holiday so much, even if they do its all cheap places like local or thai/bali etc. maybe your friends are too rich.

actually, if you are a real hard core traveller, travelling is insanely cheap.

I consider myself as quite a hardcore traveller (LOL).

So i only sleep in train/aeroplane. I bring all my food from home. mini rice cooker, rice, all bawak. Then i always plan such that at night, im always on a train going somewhere. this massively reduces travelling cost. if i have to stay somewhere, ill book cybercafe's or motels.

Because outside malaysia, food is simply too crappy. You dont go for food. you want to look at stuffs. hence you bring ur own food.

this means, you can go to europe with less then RM3K. mostly to pay flight tix. smile.gif

I think the problem is more complex than mere government and public policy.

It comes down to many things,

1) Oversupply of graduates with little in terms of trade skills. Overemphasis on the IT wave
2) Our economic position as a source of cheaper skilled labour
3) A lack of investment in practical skills and too much emphasis on academia
4) Lack of collective bargaining arrangements and unions for workers. We just aren't interested

so if we can afford 800-1mil then still go holiday in europe and other places where it's bigger in currency, doesn't that make you very rich?
