You mentioned that its 'not appearing'. Well you could try a few steps first before referring it to a shop. Here’s a couple of things you could try:
1. Reinstall the USB Mass Storage Device Driver from Device Manager
2. Try plugging in to a different computer to see whether is it being detected or not.
3. Try it with a different USB cable.
4. Also check to see if the light blinks and the HDD vibrates when it is plugged in.
