QUOTE(super macgyver @ Jun 2 2013, 11:56 PM) oh, ur wd is normal black performance or black RE Enterprise model? coz all 5 unit i bought are wd black re4 enterprise, consider better than black wd performance, but mahal another rm50 only, worth to buy after all. normal Black. Enterprise grade is too far for me (Still a student in the time i bought my PC), and i think they use SAS interface which may lead to compatibility issue for normal mobo This post has been edited by sI Taufu: Jun 3 2013, 12:04 AM

No you're wrong, RE still use SATA interface which is compatible with consumer motherboards. Lower cost servers do use WD RE series too. It is because their SAS interface is compatible with SATA harddisk as well. SAS HDD is just too expensive sometimes. However you cant plug a SAS HDD into a SATA port. I do agree tht RE3 is more reliable than the normal WD Black. I had very few bad sectors with my 1TB WD Black within 3 years, but I manage to fix it via HDD Regenerator software. My old RE3 250GB has no bad sectors after so many years.

Just bought a 1TB Toshiba Canvio Plus for RM249 on Sunday, did not experience cable issues like those on Amazon or maybe because I place it on a stable desk Transfer rate peaks at 110MB/s and averages ~100MB/s with USB3.0, pretty good imo for a portable drive and way faster than my old desktop WD Green.

Hello all, My 1tb External Buffalo hard drive have 305 reallocated sector count. It was stuck at 24% chkdsk for 1 hour. I tried to sent to ALL IT for warranty claim last weekend. The warranty technician call me back and said the external drive is fine and good and usable. They will not send it for warranty. Is he correct? I can't find any testing tools for buffalo like WD & Seagate. Thank you for advise. This post has been edited by alvinfks78: Jun 11 2013, 02:22 PM

QUOTE(sI Taufu @ Jun 2 2013, 11:47 PM) IINM in March, I shocked when my PC run HDDcheck during bootup, like deleting files and recover files. Feeling it must be something to do with my HDD, i went on to run HD Tune and get the following results of my C Drive : https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?act=Atta...post&id=3414761Initial it got 12 current pending sectors, upon googling i realize it is another meaning of bad sectors, so i do backup ASAP. After 3 weeks, my PC hang when surfing internet, knowing that the HDD had reach its date, i force shutdown my PC and restart......I cannot see anything on my monitor, not even BIOS Splash screen! https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=2784581&hl=One good thing of WD Black is we may have ample time to do backup before it finally gave up That holds me back a bit, I was going to get a WD Black. Should I get the Blue instead?

QUOTE(milky @ Jun 11 2013, 10:50 PM) mSATA even faster than SSD ? after i change my HDD to SSD i'm not going back to HDD.... HDD boot up time very slow lol mSATA is not physically compatible with standard SATA ports. You might need an adaptor if you don't have hardware support. mSATA performance tends to be not as fast as a typical SSD because there are fewer NAND chips on it and therefore less able to do parallel storage processing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATA#mSATASince you already have an SSD, there is no practical reason to switch to mSATA.

You can install Windows on it and boot from the HDD. But it is a slow HDD according to some benchmarks. http://images.anandtech.com/galleries/2223...ot-81_575px.pnghttp://images.anandtech.com/galleries/2223...ot-83_575px.pnghttp://images.anandtech.com/galleries/2223...ot-86_575px.pnghttp://images.anandtech.com/galleries/2223...ot-88_575px.pngIf it is not going into a NAS, you're probably better off buying a WD Blue or Green for cost-effectiveness and performance.
