Hi All Need some input.

My secondary internal HDD today morning got CDC trying to copy from it. THen,

I disconnect the primary HDD and boot up with the secondary.

After that, I tried to copy the file again okay can copy, can delete and read but noticed there is pause in slight between.

To copy a 1g File about 1 minute

Speed fan test - short test no errors. Extended test 90% then -> 80% -> have to go to work.

My smart is

Hi, according to the attributes, I assume the drive can be save provided you quickly backup the data while you at it, be it another drive or external.
Then use Low Level Format software to runs through once, and check the SMART again.
Download the program here.
If your SMART of the "Pending Sector Count" is 0 after LLF (low level format) then it's good, then check "Reallocated Sector Count", if there's 0 then your drive is still working fine, but keep an eye on it. If somehow your SMART indicate 1 or more on attribute "Reallocated Sector Count" then you should be watching it, if you can perform another LLF and see if that attribute is increasing, if it's then send for RMA immediately (if your warranty still valid), it's an indication of internal hardware failure.
Check your Samsung drive warranty here.

Thanks for reply. smile.gif . will try to nod.gif I think HDD still got warranty bought may 2011.

And oh, before you go on with warranty, Seagate enforced that you must run their SeaTools and get the code to confirm the drive failure for RMA, otherwise Seagate will only ship it back to you at your cost.

Yes I realised that when trying to fill up the form unsure.gif

Thanks for tip smile.gif

Hi all,I posted earlier about "current pending sectors = 7" errors at my hard disk. I did a LLF and then SMART says

0 current Pending sectors
0 relocation sector count

After the LLF, I did a Seagate dos scan (Long DST) & Speedfan scan(extended) found no errors.

So, I copy back the data from backup. But now after using 1 week got current pending sectors error = 1:

My current SMART is:

[attachmentid=2924075]

I am not sure if the problem is the HDD or other stuff in the computer. Please icon_question.gif with your expertise.

Thank you. biggrin.gif

Update : i did a chkdsk on a few partition. now the current pending sectors is 0 again.

Updated Smart is

[attachmentid=2924201]

rclxub.gif very confusing doh.gif

nod.gif , The hard disk sometimes slow/sluggish when opening file. But better after install fan and open casing.

Hard disk can go 46c - 50c before fan and closed casing.

Thanks all for feedback. notworthy.gif Please advice to RMA or do a LLF check again? If replace PSU will help?

Try Google for "low level format" tool to deep format the drive to rectify the pending sectors.

Note: Backup your Data first before doing so, this method is irreversible, nor can you recover data in anyway.

Free version of the tool only allows you to format at 50MB/s so if your hard drive is big then you might need to let it runs overnight or something like that.
After your runs it, check the SMART again to verify if there's any "Reallocated Sector Count", if there's none then your drive is fine as it's, but be warn that it might occur again. And if there's still "Pending Sector Count", possible your drive is also having issue, time to send for RMA or if it's already out then plan for a new one, don't try to use it any longer as it might causes lost of data without your realizing it.

Good luck icon_rolleyes.gif

Hi all,

Need advice, I low level formated the hard disk and got 0 Reallocated Sector count, 0 pending sectors count. Samsung etools found no errors and seagate dos test also passed.

So, I reinstalled Windows (using dual-os btw) and drivers and copy back the files but now

0 reallocated sector count
15 pending sectors count
Also. Encountered a Cyclical Redundancy check for 1 files when trying to copy
throughput performance 47(warn) 1(worst) 0(warn) but this problem here long time already.

Is this a sign the drive is bad? BTW I got warranty till April 2013 ( 2yrs warranty) but stated 25 aug 2014 on website(wierd). Thanks all for reply

Spec:

Samsung 1tb 7200rpm
Samsung DVD
ram 8g
intel processor
windows 7(64) c: and windows xp(32) d:

If the HDD keeps on giving you errors such as Pending Sectors Count then it's probably sign of failure, backup and send for RMA for the safe side. You can contact their customer support on this case, they may help you to identify this case as special case, and help you RMA your HDD easier. wink.gif
*
blink.gif LOL I email Seagate and they reply me with a generic templete letter. at least got some black and white if they question my RMA

"
thank you for contacting Seagate Technical Support.

I am sorry to learn that the drive is showing bad sectors. Please try a Zero Fill using Seatools for DOS. If this does not help please return the drive. If you have important data in the hard drive, you might want to send it for data recovery before you return for replacement. You can choose to send the drive to America for Seagate's data recovery service or alternatively, you can choose a 3rd party vendor in your country."

...........etc

Hello all,

My 1tb External Buffalo hard drive have

305 reallocated sector count. It was stuck at 24% chkdsk for 1 hour.

I tried to sent to ALL IT for warranty claim last weekend.

The warranty technician call me back and said the external drive is fine and good and usable.

They will not send it for warranty.

Is he correct? I can't find any testing tools for buffalo like WD & Seagate.

Thank you for advise. smile.gif

Hi guys, forgive me if this is the wrong section to post for this question.

My WD HDD recently became faulty (windows asks to format when plugged in) but I managed to pull out the important data with recovery software.

The question now is: Can I write zero before sending it back to the shop I bought to RMA? It's still within the 3 year warranty. I'm worried if the shop will not replace since write zero might "fix" the problem I'm having now.

Better to zero b4 send otherwise your P&C info is there.

Got a old Seagate Hard disk.

with 5 current pending sector count & 5 uncorrectable sector count.

I tried to

1) Low Level format ( HDDLLF.exe)
2) chkdsk /r /f also tried /b Windows 7
3) speedfan extended test - no errors

But still SMART data is the same.

Any icon_question.gif suggestion I can try?TQ

There's really nothing much you can do about a HDD that is experiencing uncorrectable sectors except to get a replacement HDD ready in case of failure. You should not put any critical data on the problem HDD and keep monitoring its SMART values. Make sure that you new HDD are well cushioned from vibration etc in the drive cage.

Low level formatting etc will just makes things worst. There are plenty of tools that claims that they can revive the HDD which has bad sectors but in reality the chances of creating more uncorrectable sectors are higher in the process of reviving the bad sectors as it stresses the mechnical arm of the HDD.

thanks for the tip. nod.gif Already backup data guess nothing much else I can do for that drive.
