i use WD green over 2 years. when i said 2 years, i means 2 year of spinning time. and no bad luck at all.

forget about harddisk price hike;

when will seagate 1TB single platter drive available in malaysia? i think they already release that product even though that "massive flood" caused their factory to be shutting down.

better upgrade your seagate 500GB to seagate 1TB. make sure it is single platter. major improvement on read/write speed since size increase with sector become small on the same platter size

wow, and thats what we called major improvement of mechanical disk's technology. write speed increasing from 110++ to 180++

if they can make 2TB using single platter size, i guarantee it will be more fast, maybe can achieve 200++ since the sectors inside platter become more smaller. rclxms.gif

I got 1 seagate 60GB in my Aspire 5500z laptop, run for 5 years++ with average temperature 49C.
still ok till now.

you mention that your seagate runs for 2 years+ and you call that reliable. my WD runs for 3 years+ and died...i don't think 3 years is called reliable enough.

i think when he says his hdd running for 2 years & several months, he means the total time of spinning. you can get that duration by checking the S.M.A.R.T. option. many hdd tools can read S.M.A.R.T. for example hddlife. you will get the exact working duration of your disk.

for example, i have maxtor 40GB which is 8 years old. but total time of usage just 7 months. means it only spin about 7 months of total time. smile.gif
that is how people measure the realibility of hard disk. how long it can survive by spinning almost 24/day. not how long it can survive with on/off on/off 3-4 times a day wink.gif

mechanical hard disk is hot. it is normal. if you have front blower fan in your casing, it can reduce your hdd temp from 50 to 35-40.

*
whoaaaa... already has 6TB of storage, still need more?
i think you might want to buy internal hard disk, make it external by plug it to e-sata or drive bay. cheaper than external drive.

nice. the chirping is gone. before this i heard every several minutes!

the new firmware only programmed into a chip, data is inside a platter, so this procedure won't harmed your data.

Hello all,

My 1tb External Buffalo hard drive have

305 reallocated sector count. It was stuck at 24% chkdsk for 1 hour.

I tried to sent to ALL IT for warranty claim last weekend.

The warranty technician call me back and said the external drive is fine and good and usable.

They will not send it for warranty.

Is he correct? I can't find any testing tools for buffalo like WD & Seagate.

Thank you for advise.  smile.gif

buffalo is just "casing's brand". they are use some brands of hard disk, for example, samsung or hitachi or even western digital.

you need to know which hard disk were used
