Samsung warranty covers unlocked bootloader units as well, right? I know HTC doesn't honour the warranty on an unlocked bootloader Nexus One, but Samsung still does?

Not necessary. It is for further fine tuning if you need it

Guys, do our phone need to be root first for volume+ to work properly. I've installed volume+ but there is no difference in my speaker volume. My ringtone is so soft compare to my previous SE phone and I'm using the exact same ringtone

Hairline or major scratches?

From regular usage or a particular incident?

no need to root, are you installing the free one from android market, if from market i advise u to get it from the developer's website free also, but the difference is from market you can only set volume to 4+ only, if from the web can set up to 20+ but i set to 10+ only, satisfied with the loudness, i experienced same problem as yours before, luckily forumer here very helpful, problem settled

Installed one from the web. Already put volume level to 20+, but as djlah said, only slight improvement.
Mind sharing your volume+ equaliser setting. Maybe mine is not properly configured

Hair line scratches right? Hmm yeah differs from person to person the way they use.

Assuming the scratches not very obvious unless under direct light and u angle it around?
