Alright, almost 12 hours in, and these are my thoughts on the port:
- Dark Souls: Prepare to Die edition for PC is, undoubtedly, a straight up port of the Xbox 360 version. Take it upon yourself to view that as a good or bad thing. It's like someone took an 360, repackaged the thing to only play the game and installed it into my CPU. - Which brings me to the next point, being the issues present in the console version unfortunately, still exists in the PC version. Blighttown is still a b*tch to navigate through, some visual anomalies such as animations being rendered at half the FPS, and even though you can hotswap between using the KB/M and gamepad, the on-screen input display does not change i.e. it would still display "Press A to check message". - Speaking of controls, really do not try to bother with the KB/M controls. Pads are the way to go. - All that being said, it's still the same Dark Souls we all love, with several extra tidbits being put in; defeating some of the earlier bosses net some gears not found in the console version i.e. defeating the Gargoyle statues before ringing the first bell gives you Gargoyle Helm and Gargoyle Halberd. Unfortunately I haven't played long enough to check out the Prepare to Die content, but so far I've played (right before fighting Smough and Ornstein), it has been a pleasure, both reliving old content as a new character and finding new stuff never seen before. - Another thing which a previous poster posted a link to the resolution mod; although you can change the display window to any resolution, the game renders the scene at a sub-par HD resolution, making everything look blurry. I personally didn't mind this at first, but after playing a while and suffering headaches, I tried the resolution mod and holy, the thing is an ABSOLUTE beauty. I recommend everyone to try the mod out; although be warned that it would impact the FPS slightly if your computer is not of the gaming grade; I noticed some slowdowns when fighting Great Wolf Sif, probably it has to do with rendering all the fur on the wolf. - And finally the elephant of the room, GFWL. I am both pleased and slightly disgusted to report that it has been working great for me out of the 12 hours I played. The game accepts my key (which was purchased from GMG), and signing in with my old account did not really took any longer than the initial 5 minutes to set up everything. I have been called to defend the forest, invaded others to stock up on humanity (and ultimately being invaded myself) and helped a friend of mine to defeat a boss. Aside from the lag and difficulty to find your friend, it WORKS. My only qualm is that I was charged 800 Microsoft points to change my bloody Gamertag. my account being an old one and I wanted to change the name to reflect my current handle. The conclusion is that if you love Dark Souls, and would like the company to consider the possibility of releasing the next Souls game on PC (hopefully with better porting), buy the game. And I'll even say that with the resolution fix, this is the ultimate version of Dark Souls. |

Welp I think I'm going to get the retail edition with all those extra goodies but TSB don't sell it and I don't know where else can I get a retail copy. Anyone bought the physical copy here?
Should I update the OP too? EDIT: TSB got it now for RM149. I get it from GMG for $20 instead as the soundtrack and artbook are not worth it at the price they are asking. This post has been edited by hakimix: Aug 28 2012, 07:13 PM |

Just to ask, where did most of you people buy the game from? I can't get it from Steam so where did you buy it from?

Or you could buy a copy from a real life shop. My copy came with a pretty nice art book, poster (which i've not bothered unfolding), making of DVD (which i'm never going to watch) and the OST for about RM145.
I'm a lvl 5 thief currently at the capra demon. I'm seeing how far I can get without levelling up. |

Finally beaten Ornstein and Smough after 4 or so tries with the help of Solaire (I can't do it all by myself). The former is harder than the latter especially after I took out Smough but the reward for beating them is worth it.
So onwards to Catacombs I guess, but I think I will take a detour to the Darkroot Forest to join the Forest covenant (mainly to meet Shiva of the East) and after that to Blighttown to get some items that I missed. This post has been edited by hakimix: Sep 22 2012, 03:13 AM |

QUOTE(bobohead1988 @ Oct 9 2012, 03:33 AM) Can be played at 60fps now without the game speeding up (the animation is tied to the fps hence the 30 fps limit) but if that's the reason to skip this game you're missing out a great game released this year for PC. GOTYAY for me along with (hopefully) Hotline Miami (ok maybe Crusader Kings II too). All thanks to the lovely PC community that make the game even better than the shabby console port that they released. |

The absence of GFWL logo at the end of the trailer makes me really excited. Hopefully it will stay that way.
