guys...wanna ask something,
does higher modem capability (3.6 ~ 42Mbps) equates to higher heat production?
if it does, then umobile, yes and other 42Mbps modems are risky to be left overnite is it?

higher performances modem = using higher power = generate higher heat,

is normal as long as u place ur modem is good air circulation area, it shouldnt be any problems to used 24/7,... if u worry, u could always get a cooler pad for laptop, and places the modem on top the cooler pad, or places your modem near window, or below ceiling fan,..

KKW,

dont get any UMG1831, as is OLD model using older chipset,

if u have higher budget, get a E372,.. if not get E353,. as they are both newer model, using a newer Qualcomm 8200/ 8280 chipset,.. ^^

E372 = dual 3G UMTS900 & UMTS2100 DC-HSPA+ modem,

E353 = single 3G band UMTS2100 HSPA+ modem,.

GSM frequency bands: 850, 900, 1800, 1900
UMTS frequency bands: 850, 900, 1900, 2100
Speed up to 42mbps
This modem must be expensive.

Huawei E353 have 3 model
2 model is dual 3G UMTS900 & UMTS2100, another one is single 3G band.
'Three' Huawei E353 as sold at lelong is single band with price tag RM200

UMG 1831 speedtest on the backdrop of a download

Attached Image

UMG is sufficient on our current network, some sellers are selling them for abt rm150 now, why get a higher priced similiar modem where the network can only support this much?

better save your $$ for a Dual Purpose, LTE and HSPA Plus modem. ( my target )

abt E372, i believe its a only tad better than UMG, dun believe me, buy it and compare with my UMG,MF691 or Icon505 biggrin.gif

That's mean should I wait for dual purpose modem?
Currently I do some speedtest on my phone using H+ mode only can get around 7.2mbps of speed.. hmm.gif
I wondering if using a modem will perform differently or not?

Heat also depend on your location. If you use your modem in area where the line is weak, the modem will use more power to transfer the data and produce more heats.

That's always happen to me when I use my modem at kampung. But not much heat if use at KL.

Here is a sample for my modem

Yellow signal (2 bar)
RSSI: -81.01dBm
CINR: 11.13/8.83(R3/R1)dB
TX power: 6dBm - 9dBm

I move it, Red signal (1 bar)
RSSI: -85.42dBm
CINR: 6.84/3.77(R3/R1)dB
TX power: 17dBm - 20dBm

many thanks bros,

i did as bro chuah mentioned n place my modem near the notebook fan cooler, the heat is significantly reduced, now really no worries leaving it overnite

---bro nordingh
does the RSSI n TX Power increased value indicate the modem is working extra to capture signals?

Added on February 19, 2012, 6:24 pmand one more thing...

for those who have the ridiculously over 10Mbs download speed on maxis laugh.gif
does that depend mostly on area?
or its because you guys tweaked your modem capabilities in mdma?

i tried the 7.2Mbps n 21Mbps modem, both speedtest yield 4-5Mbps max oni... sweat.gif
checked the band config in mdma n the default setting i found was at -custom -2100

Anyone considering E367? I just placed an order from eBay. Hopefully, it is a good one. Can't afford the E372 for now, so I settle for this one. tongue.gif

So sorry, I should have ask you all first. notworthy.gif
I've already paid and it's already on the way via registered mail. Actually, I have no confidence with the seller due to just around 100 transactions with good review, I'm supposed the seller is still new in the business. sweat.gif That's why I'm taking a risk first to see if it's a legitimate one. Maybe once I got it and tested it okay, we can do a bulk purchase.
