I'm really getting annoyed with our local music stores. The stuff that they don't generally bring in all the time, they're lazy to go and find out the cost.
Don't read the below text if you don't want to read a wall of rant. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Anyway, to me it seems as though our local shops really aren't very interested in going through the hassle of bringing in a special high-end kit or the like, even for a special order. Really, in Malaysia, when was the last time you saw a Pearl Reference, Tama Starclassic, Yamaha Recording Custom, Mapex Orion, Ludwig Classic Maple, DW Professional kit being displayed in a store for sale? Even when I sell kits, I generally tend to focus on the low-midrange market, because that is all that our friends here have in stock most of the time. Everything else, 6 months or longer wait. Is this the reason why we don't really have nice gear around Msia? I think most of the shops we have here nowadays don't know the real meaning of the word: service. |

QUOTE(WintersuN @ Jan 20 2012, 02:08 PM) Is only for drums. Not many store carry good drum stuff in store. Usually they just meh~ Drums market is also booming, but won't grown so much if the system continues this way.If guitar they will really serious cos market is big QUOTE(sarvinG @ Jan 20 2012, 03:01 PM) Seems like Bentley fcuked me up. Yesterday I called and confirm they said that they are offering me the ZHT pro. Just now I call and ask about some other stuff and to confirm my kit, they said they are giving me the zxt rock set. I ordered a kit from them last time with two FLOOR toms and instead they gave me one floor tom and one mounted rack tom. 6 months to replace order, I just took this one lah. I was like whuutt. Broke my heart man. But they said to give me the ZHT pro including the kit for a slight higher price. Dissapointed for that. But I guess even with the zxt rock set, it seems A pretty good deal. QUOTE(zzzxtreme @ Jan 20 2012, 04:27 PM) wow bentley. i'd rather drive all the way to singapore to buy high-end kit, get good service, pay 10% tax, drive the way all back to KL, and still save few thousands of ringgit Hmm.. Singaporean service is also much better. With some of my guitar gear (for myself and customers), I sometimes go down to Singapore and grab the gear, even if it's around the same price as it ought to be in Malaysia cause of service, faster response, etc.But I can agree that some retailers are pretty good. So far, the only company that I've bought from that is a main distributor for drums, for drum items, happily, with no problems at all, prompt replies and even though the prices are starting to creep up Anyway, I've got a friend selling a Tama Superstar Custom shell pack for RM3.5k, and I'm selling my Ludwig Epic (with no snare) for RM3k. QUOTE(boiboi95 @ Jan 21 2012, 05:29 PM) 1. Don't get the Gigmaker, it's a waste of money. Top up a bit more and get at least a Pearl Vision or Ludwig Epic Anyway, now we're past that, we can talk about the relative awesomeness of Yamaha drums. HAHAHAHA! The Stage Custom is a pretty solid set. It's got punch and power and is a pretty good all rounder set. Next up, the only one I've got experience with other than those two, is the Yamaha Oak Custom. Terrific response and the output is just crazy. And the tone is <3 HAHAHAHAHA! |

John bonham wannabe I have played Paiste before, but as you guys ought to know, I'm a Sabian person The 2002 series is pretty cool QUOTE(boiboi95 @ Jan 21 2012, 07:32 PM) for the gigmaker? why do you say so? Because the price is already rather high for an entry level kit. Just top up a bit more and go for a midrange kit liao Ah, Stage Custom and Oak Custom is too much for me And from a purely tonal POV, it's really not that great. x) The Epic? If you're interested, PM me. I'm selling a used kit, and I also deal new ones. |

QUOTE(Namqul @ Jan 22 2012, 03:29 PM) Sadly, people here likes to inquire about many things but when it comes to buying, they'll end up saying, I'll definitely buy it if I have the money. It is an advantage to know someone from a shop or until the point that they know you personally, then your inquiries will be much easier. I know what you mean As for high end kits, let say as a dealer, you can sell 1 high end kit in a year and makes a profit of 2k. For the low ends you can sell 24 kits in a year with a profit of RM300 per set. Because of that, I think its reasonable not to stock of the high end ones. Keep it in mind, regular people doesn't give much attention on drums. It's a challenging area to do business so, just try to be patience and give them the support they need. They even have Terry Bozzios's Radia! Price is a bit high tho. Added on January 22, 2012, 3:32 pmP/S: My 18inch Tom finally arrives. Maybe I'll post an update picture after everything is set up nicely. I remember going into Bentleys a while back, and they didn't even have a Masters, Reference or Starclassic set up |

Too. Many. Sales.
Anyway, to bring the DRUMMING back into this thread; Recently, I've been listening to a lot of music like Periphery, Animals as Leaders and Threat Signal, mostly because of their guitarists (recently, I've been focusing a lot more on my guitar work, since I can play/record at home, whereas I can't with drums) and as usual, slowly I started drifting towards their drummers, and I've realised something; which is that all (or most) of these incredibly complex drummers, play open handed and can lead with both sides, on both left and right, hands and feet. Basically, ambidextrous. Personally, I've never taken the idea of open handed drumming very seriously in my own playing, except for some rare use when I'm playing blast beats or when I'm playing intricate ride patterns and I use hats on both hands to spice the accents and dynamics up. However, after watching all these drummers, some barely a few years older than me, doing all this crazy stuff, I've impressed on myself that I need to go and try to master this art of open handed ambidextrous drumming. How I'll be able to practice, I have no idea. But I'll start with trying some basic beats at my next band practice. Basically, I feel that playing open handed may open up some leeway in your playing, and being able to lead with all your limbs will definitely do wonders for your playing; four way coordination, anyway For those of you that are new to the concept, here are some examples: Alex Rudinger Carter Beauford Travis Orbin We've also got a couple of Malaysian drummers who do this, I can't remember who though. :/ |

QUOTE(leadaxer @ Jan 26 2012, 04:18 PM) Any drummers here use low-volume drumsticks for their practice session? Hmm... looks interesting. Heh. I might just buy one set of them e.g Lidwish Ultra Tones http://lidwishsoulutions.com/ Anyway, just found a set of IVA drum mics that I bought when I got my kit, never used them though xD HAHAHAHA. Immaculate condition, selling for RM700, with a retail price of nearly RM1.2k according to CM music. Any takers? Willing to trade as well. Two condensers, one large diaphragm, and four moving dynamic coil mics, with four mic clips! |

I think I'm letting go of EVERYTHING I have lah, at the rate things are going. I'm selling my Ludwig kick pedal for RM200, and my Iron Cobras for RM800. If you're interested, let me know. I also have a couple of new sets of the Yamaha DFP9415 (the precursor to the Flying Dragon) lying around in my friends store, and it's clearing for RM1200, when the retail was RM2150
Do let me know if you want it! Anyway, about those silent sticks, I'm planning to get a pair when I convert my room into a studio, so as not to disturb the neighbours. Anyone wanna bulk? QUOTE(5p3ak @ Feb 1 2012, 05:05 PM) Not sure if local Mapex has in stock. The 13 x 6 Maple/Walnut one from the 2010 collection, I think. I need to sell some more of my stuff first before I can buy it lahh. But as soon as I do, here I come! And I may not be purchasing the Saturns anymore. (Yes, they were Saturns xD) because the price that GC quoted me was apparently without the shipping costs and taxes, so, something that was already expensive will get even more expensive, and I may not be able to afford that. Which also means that I may not get the Black Panther now, and perhaps I'll stick with Ludwig or something, if I can get a good deal. |

QUOTE(5p3ak @ Feb 1 2012, 08:05 PM) Nope, like I was ranting a few pages ago, out local places never stock high end drums. HAHAHAHA!So, its like a one-off basis. I might be getting used drums now from overseas, since I'll have to pay for shipping and taxes anyway. But I need to clear my Epic first. :/ |
