Before this thread dies:

What snare wires do you guys use? I've been using Puresound for a while now, but, yeah. HAHA

I'm getting bored of seeing the same old sh*t being discussed here.

Not everybody has the resources (Read: Money) to get gears all the time. How about we shift the topic to something we can afford to spend: TIME!

#1 How often do you fellow drummers practice a week?
#2 What rudiments, techniques you focus on?
#3 If not, what songs you usually play along with in your practice hours?
*
HAHA

#1 Okay, I don't really practice :3 Even though I know I should. But if I've got a show coming up, then the week before that I do an hour a day.
#2 I tend to work through different books, etc.
#3 It depends what type of show I'm playing. If it's something gospel-related, I'll play more "feel" stuff, if its not, then I'll do what I usually do with rock and heavier stuff. Then after a few warmup songs to get the juices going (A perennial favourite is F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X - super fun to play, not very hard, and can get you pumping, and you can add loads of fills around the place)

Ok yamaha double pedal, rm2400, discount 20%. online price is 220 pounds *shock*
*
One thing you've got to understand about our market is that EVERYTHING sells at the MSRP, which is usually pretty high. Our shops don't give the standard 50% off that you see on shops like Musician's Friend and Thomann, because they can't afford to, because those companies buy and sell in huge numbers smile.gif
So, therefore, you're paying around the suggested retail price by the manufacturer.

A BIG NO NO FOR THE YAMAHA PEDAL!! PLS!! haha. used it be4. thats y. unless ur talking about the old flying dragon.

So, guys. I'm thinking about picking up a used Ludwig Acrolite, probably from overseas. Anyone with friends that could help carry it back from the US or something? HAHA.

US? Too far for me if Aussie/SG maybe I can.  smile.gif

So you like Acrolite eh? hmm.gif I like Black Beauty (Prefer brass)  tongue.gif
*
The thing about Aussie is, it will most probably be more expensive than Malaysia, and Singapore's used market, isn't that big. smile.gif

I love the Black Beauty/Supraphonic tones but I think for the moment my immediate budget will only let me go as far as the Acrolite. smile.gif

QUOTE(Party2DMax @ Jul 12 2012, 04:04 PM)
I used to fantasise about Ludwig Black Beauties but after checking out other brand's stuff and doing more research, I can't help but wonder if the splay on the tension rods is intentional or just shoddy design...

The strainer seems to be problematic as well. This shows that while Made-in-USA stuff is generally really good, there are some not-so-good eggs in the basket.

That said, Ludwig's designs have inspired so many makers and honestly, I drool over some of the 'copy-cat' products tongue.gif From the Black Beauty-type snare drums (i.e. Joyful Noise), to the shell configuration and materials (i.e. C&C Custom Drums), those are the stuff made of dreams.
*
I'd have to agree with you on that. Some of the snares that certain makers have come up with are certainly amazing drums, and are even better than the originals themselves, sometimes.

Do you guys use drum mats/rugs for your kits? Renovating my room now, and I think I can squeeze in my kit. FINALLY! And also, I'll definitely be getting a pair of the Lidwish sticks and beaters.

Met 5p3ak earlier today. Nice to finally meet you bro. Enjoy the hats!

Anyway, I'm gonna buy new skins for my kit soon.

I've been using Hydraulics and G2s for the toms, and EMAD for my bass drum batter along with Power Centre Reverse Dots for my snares.

I'm feeling like changing things up a bit. Any suggestions?

HAHA! Nice to meet you too tongue.gif

Hydraulics sounds too dead for me IMO if going unmic situations my ideal set up for heads are coated singly ply for rack toms and clear double ply for Floor Toms.

Tried the PCRD on my friends snare and it's abit weird when u not hitting in the centre...  unsure.gif
*
I find Hydraulics easy to tune, and very durable though. They're very user-friendly if you're going day in day out for just practice reasons and don't have the money to buy new heads once a week. (:

The G2s are my choice for live performances though, and I try to request them as much as possible.

Ahh, yes, but the PCRD also provides for interesting dynamics that you can play around with.

I see...ease of tuning interesting... interesting indeed

Since we talking about heads...anyone of you guys have tried the new heads by Evans? G-Plus and G14?
*
Its easy to tune, maintains its stability too. And durability factor is sky high! And while it sounds a bit dead-er than some heads, on the bright side, you don't need no Moongel or rings for them! And sometimes you just want that sound.

Nope, are they in Malaysia yet?

My stock skins are like G1. G2 will sound much better?

Depends on the tone you want. smile.gif HAHAHA

For a versatile tone, I'd recommend EC2s though tongue.gif HAHA.

thanks people. i changed the stocked evans to G2 coated for rack and floor toms. they sounded more huge ! except the smaller rack tom is quite "bongo"-ish, a bit difficult to tune.

for snare, I changed to single ply power centre reverse dot. wow damn nice, very loud.

what bout bass drum skins? will it be different if i change them? now it sounded too "canon" like. want it to be more "tight and punchy"
*
The first skin I change is always the snare on the snare, and the next is always the bass drum. Try an EMAD Coated?

QUOTE(Thumpy Ick @ Sep 5 2012, 02:32 PM)
from the looks of it, not many play electric drums here? sad.gif

how do you guys sustain stamina for your kick drums? i'm only able to sustain for half an hour and then i'll start playing off beat. one of my pro friend places his whole feet down and raises only the front part of his feet, while i tend to have my whole feet up. his technique sustains stamina, but with his technique i find playing faster beats difficult.

what should i do to improve my kick drums? should i focus more on the technique, or should i just exercise the whole leg more?
*
I used to play heel down, then I switched to heel up when I realised it was harder for me to go fast, but then I realised that I had more control over my pedal when I played heel down, so I've been focusing on heeldown for the past year or so, and I can go even smoother with my heeldown than my heel-up now. HAHA.

Another thing I realised is that people who tend to play and practice on electronic drums exclusively don't USUALLY have the stamina/strength for their feet when they switch over to acoustic drums.
