from the looks of it, not many play electric drums here? sad.gif

how do you guys sustain stamina for your kick drums? i'm only able to sustain for half an hour and then i'll start playing off beat. one of my pro friend places his whole feet down and raises only the front part of his feet, while i tend to have my whole feet up. his technique sustains stamina, but with his technique i find playing faster beats difficult.

what should i do to improve my kick drums? should i focus more on the technique, or should i just exercise the whole leg more?
*
I think your friend's got it right with one of most effective foot technique - heel down. Most of those really fast death metal drummers get insane speeds by first mastering the heel down... and they can go really fast even in heel down. Heel down is so pure and simple that there's not much form (or technique) to master so if you're not getting the speed or stamina you want, it's really down to practice, practice, practice (more on that in a moment).

You can leave off those heel toe or heel up etc... if there's one foot technique you have to master, it's the good ol' heel down.

Now more on the practice. There's three things you can do and this works for both hands and legs: 1) practice with a metronome and a countdown timer, 2) use weights on your wrists and ankles, 3) practice rudiments (e.g. single rolls, paradiddles etc) and this can be rudiments that work each limb individually or one which works all four limbs together.

I use Reebok 1kg wrist weights and because I'm on the skinny side, it fits my ankles too. The weights don't actually work the muscles used to perform the hit, but instead works your core and stabilizer muscles so that you have better form.

I used to play heel down, then I switched to heel up when I realised it was harder for me to go fast, but then I realised that I had more control over my pedal when I played heel down, so I've been focusing on heeldown for the past year or so, and I can go even smoother with my heeldown than my heel-up now. HAHA.

Another thing I realised is that people who tend to play and practice on electronic drums exclusively don't USUALLY have the stamina/strength for their feet when they switch over to acoustic drums.

or use a headset microphone, make "thub thub" sound with your mouth, and send the audio back to PC, and trigger with drumagog

Wow, its been sometime i haven't posted in here, SPM trial just finished here biggrin.gif
For me, i used to heel up techniques, but i don't really like to use electronic drum. When I kick, the kick just bump back and made a "2nd kick" if i didn't press hard enough sweat.gif if you guys know what I meant

HAHA Consistency in production, definitely. Even though I don't play Promark for my normal sticks, their quality is definitely one of the best in the market. Played a few Vaters too before, and those aren't bad as well. HAHA. However, I didn't find what I was looking for with those sticks (length, weight and width-wise), which is why I've been using Tama for 4-5 years now. Until they stopped production of the sticks which I love, and when I got down to my last pair of Tama's I used them exclusively. HAHA. But anyway I've gone down the custom/local route, and I've got about 8 more pairs of custom Heartbeat sticks left. ^^ I'll definitely be ordering more from Heartbeat in the future. biggrin.gif

Either ways, yes, brushes and rods; I trust Promark. HAHA.

HAHA Like I said, I used to use Tama sticks for several years, but they discontinued my favourite model. So after that, I didn't want to go through the hassle of looking for sticks, so I just ordered custom sticks with similar specifications, problem solved. HAHA
