i never own a drumset before as well bro, but if you ask me i would say it all depends on your situation and your personal preference. say,if you wanna pick between a cheap beginner set or high end pro set,it depends on what you wanna do with it. if for practice,cheap set is more suitable provided that you are a non-gigging/recording drummer, cuz you aren't gonna record the thing/take it to some gigs which at most time requires good sounding drums (high-end set).as for size of drums,it all depends on what kind of sound that you like.

1. Don't get the Gigmaker, it's a waste of money. Top up a bit more and get at least a Pearl Vision or Ludwig Epic

Anyway, now we're past that, we can talk about the relative awesomeness of Yamaha drums. HAHAHAHA!

The Stage Custom is a pretty solid set. It's got punch and power and is a pretty good all rounder set.

Next up, the only one I've got experience with other than those two, is the Yamaha Oak Custom. Terrific response and the output is just crazy. And the tone is <3 HAHAHAHAHA!

Because the price is already rather high for an entry level kit. Just top up a bit more and go for a midrange kit liao

I also have a couple of new sets of the Yamaha DFP9415 (the precursor to the Flying Dragon) lying around in my friends store, and it's clearing for RM1200, when the retail was RM2150

Well, it depends. The least I'd go for is two overhead condensers, a kick drum mic and a snare mic. If you CAN, mic every single thing up.

Regarding EQing and all, well it depends on the individual drums, but to make the DRUM sound big, always put the kick and drum mic up a bit more than what you think sounds good. HAHAHAHA!

What do you mean by normal mics? Dynamic, shouldn't be a problem lah, if its a small event or something.

Hmm... Tell you what. Your bass drum and snare should have separate mics If possible. Ride, let it bleed into your overhead.

how much are those samsons ? I'm taking a hard look at Rode M1. ebay RM380 including shipping. some dynamic mics perform better than condensers
