b4 i found this stainless steel mesh, i was using NA one also... the quality and workmanship not very good actually for a item >RM30 @.@'''

i am using 16mm for HOB eheim liberty 2042, no need to take out the intake head or modify anything, just slot it the mesh only... hehee, i guess it can fit any filter intake or hob as long as the size is 12mm or 16mm..

but the intake can't be too long, if no the mesh can't cover whole thing

how i measure the diameter

where do you buy that minerock? i want some. how much bro?got others bw products kah?
*
You can get it from aquashop in lelong , 500g pack for like RM70++ , 2ft tank only need to put in 1 -2 'ketul',
but i think the overall function beside providing mineral is to help absorb impurities & waste , so you all can see CLEAN water is first criteria in shrimps keeping.

If want to get cheap borneowild , mosura etc shrimp products , you have to go singapore.

i gone to singapore but dunno where to start.hoho. maybe have to research on the place to go first.huhu.

about your sulawesi cardinal, it is really hard right to achieve ph8 .huhu. and they need temp at below 27c also kah?huhu
*
Not hard to achieve PH8 , coral sand/chip will do the job. Sulawesi shrimps prefer temp 28-29c, their natural habitat temp is around 29.5c.
But you need to care about the TDS level. They need hardwater.
My tank is using fan temp 28'c++ , they seem comfortable.

Easy to breed kah? you try first. if good, i will follow u. hehehe. i think, better you focus on the sulawesi only. because, later you will have no time with the other tanks. beside, it is my opportunity to get cheap stuffs from you. etc, aquarium chiller, sss grade crs and good shrimps tanks. hehehe. juz kidding. if you think that my idea is good, please let me know the bulk price of the crs tank setup plus chiller. hehehehe. juz kidding, juz kidding. hehehe. brows.gif
*
Wow , talk about breed so early, now only start to monitor them ,not yet stable, need 2 weeks or more then only think of
helping them breed laugh.gif , i must admit i'm not ready for them yet, but can't resist their beauties, brought them , rush back home, take hold guppies tank, pack them away, remove the ever polluting java fern , clean up the filter and gravel abit, reset the tank for them as this is the only tank i have with PH7.6 with coral sand in it and cycled.

i salute your determination. smile.gif wasting lots of money and times for this beautiful invertebrates. i really2 want to be in your level one day to experience what you feel right now about these shrimps. for me, this kind of hobby is really interesting and the most calming to me as i can enjoy the scenery and experience nature in my bedroom without getting dirt on my shirt. for me, the money that been wasting in this hobby is an investment for my entertainment and feeling.this hobby lighten up my life a lot. smile.gif

For me i like shrimps & invertebrates when i was in primary school when my father brought those feeder shrimp to feed arowana ,i will scoop up some and keep in a jar, will look at them for hrs , but as usual they all end up dead the next morning, now i know the reason cos i use untreated tap water to keep them. tongue.gif
I don't feel the same for fish, to me they like food drool.gif the only fish i like to keep is those marine one but as expected i find the marine shrimps alot alot nicer. Do you know anyone that only keep marine shrimps in a expensive marine tank? I like to be the one but it just too costly and hightech.

Btw those guppies & swordtail are my wife liabilities , i ask her, can feed them to my crayfish , she said you dare!!!!^%%& thumbup.gif

hehe noty you.hehehe. anyways, i would love to learn from you on the shrimp.smile.gif. would you mind if sharing some of your experience to me?i would love to go thru your experience since i new and not so wealth person.kekekeke  biggrin.gif
*
me 'half tong' only, gottta learn some more, btw since you using ADA new amazonia i can share some experience, this soil although suitable
for shrimps , it is actually more for plants and fishes, to use it for shrimps, you need the soil to stabilize and mature enough. You will experiment
some shrimps dead in the early stage of using this soil if you rush and putting in shrimps after tank is cycled. Reason is ammonia spike is notorious
in ADA soil in early stage, just a little ticker here & there like arrangement stone/decor/plant will lead to ammonia spike.
It took me a good few mths & some occasion gravel vacuuming before the soil stabilize.
Secondly, build a strong beneficial bacteria base, this will ensure proper dispose of toxin and waste in order to maintain clean water.
Ammonia & Nitrite must be zero & Nitrate must be under control as well preferable under or not more then 5ppm, to achieve this beside water change , having some floating plant like duckweed will help absorb the nitrate.
Food and supplement , you need to spend a little on this , get at least those BW Bebi (RM40) . mosura old sea mud(RM19) , BW Shield(RM57),
BW Barley (RM22). Those food will last very long cos you only use a little everyday.

Actually i increase my gh and more calcium is for my crab tank.

They need harder water to molt and almost same with shrimp, so i ask you guyz opinion.
So how to increase gh n more calcium ar?
*
GH & Calcium , then get BW White (calcium) & for GH get BW GH UP or mosura mineral plus.
What crab you keeping ? i keep vampire crab & rainbow crab. For vampire crab more headache they not keen on be feed and eat very little,
where-else the rainbow crab are like living rubbish bin , grub down everything eatable you throw at her.

Hehe...

we on same boat, vampire crab, 8 of them perish in my noob hand, now i have the Qian Hu sponsor RM20 terra tank, i try to redeem my sin, but still scratching head how to care for them. i'm setting half sand half water as well, put in star moss and fissden on lava rock for them to chew on, lucky they are small eater if not both moss goes bald in no time.

i neglected my new shrimps tank , found 2 fire red report to heaven, suspect nitrate build-up as my water lettuce melted producing lot of waste.
and didn't water change for 2 weeks sweat.gif

Now left how many? i got three only. The water i provide them with higher PH and GH as i put few piece of coral in the water. I found in internet as they need hard water to molt and calcium after they molt.
Besides, i also prepare a cup of fresh water with moss.

One of my crab lost his leg dont know why  sad.gif
About the food, i give them JBL shrimp food(what i gave my shrimp) and dry mircoworm. You only give them moss?
*
I restock now got 4, i try feed them pallet but they eat abit then bring it elsewhere polluting the environment, so i stop feeding them. sweat.gif
You can try empty Oyster shell sold in LFS , can provide calcium.

did you test for ammonia & nitrite ?
if both present , your fish will eventually died during the cycle or got permanent gill damaged.

Wow....I like your tank set up. Mine really pale compare to you. Here mine smile.gif

Mine got 1 like to hang upside down like a beetle. All of them prefer dry place instead of water
[attachmentid=2840675][attachmentid=2840680]

i just lost another vampire crab, think your are right about molting , never see them molt before , i think this one died of failed molting cos
found 1 leg on moss. Your is orange color , where you brought it? i got mine from Nilufar.
i will try throw in some GH up , coral stone & Koi mineral stone.
Actually i have no idea whether they prefer dry or wet , but from youtube video most are keep in damp moss base substrate with a cup of water.
High humidity is required. i have some feeder shrimp in the water it is fun to see the crab try to grab them.

O i also lost one white lobster/crayfish due to molting as well... arghhhhh double lost today.

Expected, ADA amazonia will leech that much or more of ammonia initially. That why i said it took longer for ADA soil to stabilize and
cause shrimps dead if not fully mature. You need to do some gravel vacuuming after the tank is cycled to get rid as much of the debris from the top soil.

Not sure about it, few days already never notice any extra shell. I never see them molt before too but i do see their molted shell before. I keep red claw crab before but after 1st molt then all die already. That time still young not really do must research on them.

Ya, high humidity but they will stay on land longer than in the water. I actually buy it from Sazuka. How about purple?Nice?Never see them in real eye before. Those feeder shrimp can survive in water without water pump?Wont die?

Wow...You got lobster too?How many tank you actually own?  shocking.gif
*
Purple & red is the same type like RCS got different color only. All my tank got water pump , the terra tank got an internal filter pumping water through
the decor. I have like 11 tank , big & small , biggest is only 2ft , smallest is 4.5L.

it is better not to mix feeder shrimps especially the large one in your fancy shrimps tank, not only they will grab all the food but will also chase/attack
your fancy shrimps.

Hi guys,
Am starting a shrimp tank soon. Already set up the 1.5ft tank with ADA amazonia & some plants about 5 days ago. I put some substrate & water from my other old tank which is stable to speed up the cycling.

When i did the NO2 test today, it showed 0ppm. I don't have the ammonia test kit though. Could it be possible my tank got cycled within 5 days?

Am scheduled to be getting my cherry shrimps end of this week.
*
Possible in 5 days as i cycled my new shrimps tank in 8 days with new soil but old filter and water from establish tank plus pump in tonne of beneficial bacteria.

ADA amazonia is new or old soil from establish tank?
To be safe ,test for Ammonia & nitrite for 2 days, if both ammonia & nitrite is zero then test for nitrate , if nitrate is present and both ammonia & nitrite
still zero then your tank probably cycled. Just do a large at least 90% water change to remove/reduce the nitrate then you are ready to rock.

Btw I think i will change the set up like yours. I plan to increase the water level and put more plant. Give them more DW, they really like it, always hanging upside down to hide from you. So what your crab like to eat or you always give them live shrimp to hunt blink.gif ?have you try any insect or cricket before?

i already started a topic on vampire crab 2 week ago -> http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=2331005&hl=
