Why not use hydroponic one forthe spinach?
easier i think..

Dont have any coral, using JBL manador.
All shrimps look active and 1 of it got very white egg in the ovary.
How to lower gh? Kh not sure, dont have test kit. Ph 7.
dont have any coral, just 2 lava stone, 1 ceramic hiding spot n 2 ketapang leave in 1.5 ft tank.

add more water same level as your outlet of ur HOB...i think current too strong..your p.h a bit low..what type of shrimp u keep? low pH is not good for your BB...

Ya , agree PH 5.5 is a concern, notice that in my new shrimps tank as well, shrimps not that active when PH below 6.
my other tank PH stable at 6.4, they enjoy it.
more read here-> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cherry_shrimp
Don't disturb the plant especially with ADA soil underneath, may lead to ammonia spike.
Top up more water like flipmode suggest or reduce the flow, i suggest you add in aeration(air pump) either on air stone or small sponge pump,
aeration help increase PH abit and shrimps really enjoy oxygen rich environment.
Thanks guys for the great advices. I adjusted the HOB to have less current, added a sponge filter and put some coral stones into the filter yesterday. pH increased to 6.0 today and the cherry shrimps are out to play and eat!! Hooray! rclxms.gif

JBL Manado if can provide high GH, maybe can be use for Sulawesi shrimps but need to test the TDS first.
if all seem all right for your shrimps then let it be. Only when you notice they dying or not breeding then make changes.

Added on May 26, 2012, 2:30 pmNotice my yellow shrimp wrestling with sulawesi rabbit snail for the last piece of spinach,
damn funny , the snail want to grope down the spinach while the shrimp try to pull it out.

Managed to catch it and dumped it into my other tank (with fish) as snack.
Didn't introduce anything new to the shrimp tank, and only saw it today. Where do they come from?

They normally come from hidden in plants , livestock or in the water(packing bag) that you brought either in eggs or junior worm format.
It would not appear out of nowhere in your tank, there must be a host that bring them in.
FYI, planaria head is triangle. -> http://www.google.com.my/search?q=planaria...iw=1280&bih=852

i started selling small portion of various shrimp foods/supplement, see if you interested.

Hi, I am feeding my RCS Hikari Crab Cuisine & Algae Wafer. I read that they do eat normal fish pellets as well, but I guess it has to be the sinking type. I tried giving them boiled baby carrots (sliced thin) but they didn't seem to be interested.

On another note, my shrimp tank's NO2 reading went from 0ppm to 0.25ppm lately. Am wondering whether this may be caused by any plants? (I have Java fern, Anubias, windelov and xmas moss). I don't overfeed, so don't think it's from there. Or could it be ammonia spike from my Amazonia soil?
