http://www.rockynewsnow.info/ - Its a modified version from NewsNow and concentrate solely for arsenal.. It also filtered out most crap, unreliable stuff from the blogosphere .. And best feature which still chuckled me, renamed some team/ sites to funny names .. that one you will have read yourself, it wont be much of a problem to know the original team anyway if you are an Arsenal's supporter for a while.

or follow good quality arsenal blogs which often have good insight and fan-written articles:
Arseblog ( http://www.oleole.com/blogs/arseblog ) - good old drunken arseblogger who swears at anything that's not arsenal

The Emotional Highbury and The Grand Ashburton Grove

Highbury 1913-2006

For the majority of their time in south-east London, Arsenal played at the Manor Ground in Plumstead, a three-year period at the nearby Invicta Ground between 1890 and 1893 excepted. The Manor Ground was initially just a field, but the club installed stands and terracing in time for their first Football League match in September 1893. They played their home games there for the next twenty years (with two exceptions in 189495), until the move to north London in 1913.

Arsenal Stadium, widely referred to as Highbury, was Arsenal's home from September 1913 until May 2006. The original stadium was designed by the renowned football architect Archibald Leitch, and had a design common to many football grounds in the UK at the time, with a single covered stand and three open-air banks of terracing. In the 1930s, the entire stadium was given a massive overhaul, with new Art Deco West and East stands constructed, opening in 1932 and 1936 respectively; in addition, the North Bank terrace had a roof added, which was later bombed during World War II and not restored until 1956.

At its peak, Highbury could hold over 60,000 spectators, and had a capacity of 57,000 until the early 1990s. The Taylor Report and Premier League regulations forced Arsenal to convert Highbury into an all-seater in time for the 199394 season, reducing the capacity to 38,419 seated spectators. This capacity had to be reduced further during Champions League matches to accommodate additional advertising hoardings, so much so that for two seasons (199899 and 199900) Arsenal played Champions League home matches at Wembley, which could house more than 70,000 spectators.

Final moments - the emotions run high in Highbury

Ashburton Grove 2007-present

Expansion of Highbury was restricted because the East Stand had been designated as a Grade II listed building and the other three stands were close to residential properties. These limitations have prevented the club from maximising the revenue that their domestic form could have brought in recent seasons. After considering various options, in 2000 Arsenal proposed building a new 60,000-seater stadium at Ashburton Grove, since renamed the Emirates Stadium, about 500 metres south-west of Highbury. The project was initially delayed by red tape and rising costs, but construction was completed in July 2006, in time for the start of the 200607 season. The stadium is named after its sponsors, the airline company Emirates, with whom the club signed the largest sponsorship deal in English football history, worth approximately 100 million; however some fans refer to the ground as Ashburton Grove, or the Grove, as they do not agree with corporate sponsorship of stadium names. The stadium will be officially known as Emirates Stadium until at least 2012, and the airline will be the club's shirt sponsor until the end of the 201314 season.

hi queenc, thanks alot.

Just wanna know, in the fixture list, there are 2 options of which you can view the full fixture of the current season. one is the full season fixture, mixture of all competitions which were compressed in the spoiler, while the others below were separated by different titles/competitions/cup.

Do you think we should let it stay this way or take the fixture by title/competition out to avoid confusion?

The PRICELESS moment when the current skipper scored a wonderful goal that mark his 33 goals in 2011 and being watched and given standing oviation by ex-skipper who scored 34 goals in 2004...

what a game. Both team defend pretty well. Again, I vote RVP for MOTM!!

2nd, Song. Song is the 2nd consistent player (after RVP) until now!! I hope he will signs a new contract

Even though most of the credits to v.persie, the ball from Song was also perfect. How much has Song transformed this season eh. Our midfield will crumble easily without him.

And who is staying for tonight El Clasico to support R.madrid? tongue.gif

yeah, it was a great volley. Last night 1 was brilliant too. ball hit the post and it transform into "powerful effect". Just like the ball was so powerful, and eventually bounced back out from the net. A great birthday present for the club!

Real Madrid why u lose? Anyway, the El Clasico was super fantastic. Any english team vs them is going to be a 1 sided game.

that was another climax of his career before he got series of injury. Still remember he used to come off from the bench after 70 mins to replace Dennis in those days.
Henry praised the goal he scored against Blackburn claiming that he was on a lethal form to score a dead angle goal.

Sebastian Larsson is the best free kick taker in EPL. 20 - 25 meter. That is his range, and he can beat the wall with ease.

It's cliche when you see he's taking the free kick. Because you know it'll be very dangerous. Btw, why Chris Samba raging? I miss that bit.

He is always my favorite during his reserve time with us but too bad not Wenger's. Very hardworking lad and accurate free kick. Too bad. We had Ramsey and Jack plus it was congested during that time with Diaby,Cesc and Nasri.

might as well buy Ronaldo and ask him take free kick only if u need a free kick taker lol

Even though we don't have a good player to take a FK other than v.persie, i think we are still doing good

I still dont think he has the potential to nail down the 1st 11 place in the team.
No doubt he is good but we already have the likes of Ramsey, Jack, Song and Arteta in the middle plus not forgetting we have Frimpong coming up. He do not have the pace of Theo and Gervinho to penentrate as well. He will not be happy if he decides to come back.

what im thinking now about wenger he never ever ever buy player too expensive, he just buy player to complete his squad if not young player like arteta... we see arsenal game, many freekick take didnt past opposition wall or over the sea... only van persie good enough...

Ronaldo actually is not that good for a free kick taker. Most of the time he will evade the wall and goes for GK side, or else his kick will hit the wall.

Right, current Arsenal setup doesn't fit his style. If 4 - 5 years ago maybe he had a chance.

If you want fk taker. we have joe campbell in the future. He will probably be coming back to nail 1st place next season. And hopefully of course PCY and miyaichi can bring something for us.

BOth his penalty and FK look very confident.

larrson is a right winger right? We've got Gervinho, Walcott, Chamberlain, Miyaichi, Rosicky... Its quite hard for him to nail first place in Arsenal now.

With current first team's form, it's hard for anyone to break in to it and claim a regular starting place (Besides Djourou's place)

We've Arshavin/ Chamakh/ Park/ Rosicky/ Ox/ Frimpong/ Ryo/ of all whom are capable of being starters but is now settling their time on the bench/ reserves. We've the depth of quality and quantity, but on the defensive side, we're still a bit short on both quality and quantity.

Ryo wanted to go on loan and Chamakh wanted a return back to his ex-club, Bordeaux. Other than that, we still have a strong squad despite the departure.

I wanted to watch Park play so much, but with Van Persie's current form, i doubt it will happen soon

yes , man city, if we can hold them like we did the last time ~ but this time + mr vantastic ~ i think we might actually win it =x its a bold statement nonetheless ~ but i really think we have a decent chance ~ and if any of the defenders manage to recover in time it would be better , but we gotta live with what we have ~

We have to take down or at least hold city next match. Because we will have to face Barcelona sooner or later. If we can't hold city which movement is 3 times slower barca then we will get robbed heavily while playing against barca. Those who watch the el classico match will understand what I am talking about. Madrid attack look furious in the 1st 30 minutes but its just the 1st 30 minutes then they lost most of their pace attacking coz to save for defending.

Watch the match and you watch a city match, you can notice a huge difference, city is slower though they got pacey players, sometimes can caught them jogging on the field and their pressing are not too fast either. Against a team like that we have to hold stably on the back and see whether we can score a goal or 2 in the front.

the main different why v.Persie is different compared to Suarez or Rooney... i heard what Alan Curb yesterday on pre-match show..

is we got Walcott and Gervinho.. cos full back are wary of speed of this 2.. so left room for v.Persie.. and most of the time v.Persie go back midfield to collect ball.. it make centre back have to mark either walcott gervinho and v.Persie.. difficult to cope..

you can see that in the Everton match where midfield is master by Arteta Song and Ramsey.. they collect all the ball in midfield.. the full back have to cover either Walcott and Gervinho.. then CB have to mark v.Persie and backup for the fullback in case they lost pace against the winger...

and most important is v.Persie know where the ball is.. he read the game well..
if u notice that when Gervinho or Walcott got the ball run into the box,
normal striker like Chamakh or Bent (Aston Villa), they will run toward keeper.. but v.Persie will pull back at the penalty dot there.. so CB are not follow him as all run toward the keeper.. then he got space to shoot...

granted i did not watch that many Man City matches, same applied to that Spanish club matches but i;d like to think that i watched enough to know how they play. and they do not play the same way at all, so i do not see any logic in 'if we can't hold Man City, we do not have any hope when facing that Spanish club'. besides, we already prove that we can beat that Spanish club so it's just a matter of doing what we know we can do to the max and we'll be fine against both clubs

but i must say that our lack of (actually, there is none) fullbacks available does make for a cause to concern to. particularly i'm really worried by the prospect of David Silva shifting his play to our RB position where he will most probably be facing Johan. i do not like that situation at all

1st of all, it will be very difficult for your noisy neighbour to totally lock Robin out

but in case that happen, there'll be Theo, Gerv and the midfielders especially Aaron to pounce on the space created when they busy locking out Robin

well, I compared both the clubs because clearly there is one far more superior than the other. And we are facing the more inferior ones next week. You are not saying that M.City is as good as Barca, aren't you? If you are, then I will have to disagree with you. However, that doesn't mean we have to lose to either one of them. We have beaten both the clubs in different occasions but things changed recently. City is becoming stronger but Liverpool can still hold on to them, that means we can do the same as well. Well, agree or not, if we can't hold on to City this week, we will have to prepare extra length when we face Barca in the future.

i'm just saying that both teams play different style of football, so while i certainly not wish for it; failure to contain Man City should in no way be an indication that we will not be able to beat that Spanish club. given the playing style of both clubs and ours i'm actually not sure which club is harder for us to handle at this point of time

is Man City not as good as that Spanish club? obviously that Spanish club win a whole lot more trophies than Man City (or everybody else for that matter) so it is easy to say that they are better than the Sheikh's toy. but if they play against each other tonight and i have to choose who i think will win, i'd give a slight edge to Man City as i think they have the style of play and the players to counter that Spanish club game

all of the above of course, just my opinion

To be honest, the Suarez now reminds me a lot of the old Van Persie....whereby the old him got a lot of chances to score, hit the post lar, shot wide lar....just not in the net.....(although he still scored quite a lot by the end of each season)......

This season however, v.Persie is incredibly strong... On a hell of form that I think if he continue scoring, he will just ended up top scorer before the season even over!

On a hell of form that I think if he continue scoring, he will just ended up top scorer before the season even over!

granted i did not watch that many Man City matches, same applied to that Spanish club matches but i;d like to think that i watched enough to know how they play. and they do not play the same way at all, so i do not see any logic in 'if we can't hold Man City, we do not have any hope when facing that Spanish club'. besides, we already prove that we can beat that Spanish club so it's just a matter of doing what we know we can do to the max and we'll be fine against both clubs

but i must say that our lack of (actually, there is none) fullbacks available does make for a cause to concern to. particularly i'm really worried by the prospect of David Silva shifting his play to our RB position where he will most probably be facing Johan. i do not like that situation at all
1st of all, it will be very difficult for your noisy neighbour to totally lock Robin out

but in case that happen, there'll be Theo, Gerv and the midfielders especially Aaron to pounce on the space created when they busy locking out Robin
*
ramsey aye, how is he performing as of late?but il give theo the next in line behind van.his pace might just be what sneaks past the noisy ones when they are occupied on rvp.

If he is going, then let it be on a good note. I liked Chamakh, and I still do. His awesome height and presence is similar to Adebayor. The only lacking is his play time and obviously he can't suit well with Arsenal style of play. He is still very young and has lots of potential to go. He left as a free agent from Bordeux, so perhaps its a fine return for both club and player. I wish him all the best if the news is true.

Our style of play not suiting him. He is curi ayam type, while our best style is collecting ball from midfield like RVP doing now.

if u watched the match just now u can see both LB/CB of MCity is very slow even Clichy lost his pace to sturridge... and Arsenal have 2 player who are great at speed which is T. Walcott and Gervinho who also good at dribbling for sure they can cause the problem to mcity

if u watch Carling Cup u can see how Alex Ox penetrate the right side of Mcity with his speed and dribbling skill

Oh come on, give that chap a break. IMO, Djourou is gaining back his confidence and he is starting to perform well like what he did last season. Of course all players have their bad period of the season, but I think he's recovered from that. I have no trouble having him on the RB, but its a bonus if we could have back Sagna by now.

I'm not that worried about the back 4 as they are quite in form now. Just hope that Djourou be consistent and Metersacker don't get exploited by speed dribble doh.gif

we have no first team fullbacks available for our next match. while Johan is doing OK currently at the RB position, just 'doing OK' might not be enough when playing against the league leader. but more worryingly is the LB position. by moving TV5 to that position, it will make us weaker at 2 position i.e. the LB and CB

how the boss must regret his decision to play Andre Santos against Olympiakos now

I'm more worried about Man City's creative midfield in Silva...can see that Yaya Toure is a 45-minute player, was slow in 2nd half against Chelsea. MC's CB are not that solid, can exploit Lescott's weakness

Bedtner Story..

‘Don’t you know who I am?’ asks Bendtner after credit card fail in pizzeria

Nicklas Bendtner was forced to go begging for his pizza among strangers on Saturday night.

Stopping at a pizzeria in Copenhagen the Sunderland striker, on loan from Arsenal, turned to desperate methods when his credit card wouldn’t work.

Danish newspaper Ekstrabladet reported that Bendtner tried to get the pizzas for free, even asking staff: “Don’t you know who I am? I can buy the whole pizzeria.”

A member of staff, who did not want to be named, is quoted by the paper as saying: “We told him that it did not matter who he was. If he could not pay, there was no pizza.”

A customer told the paper: “He was f***ing arrogant acted as if he owned the place. All the people just stood and looked at each other and shook their heads over the way he behaved.”

In the end, two girls took pity on the 23-year-old millionaire and paid for the food.

Bendtner then departed in a taxi – though it’s not clear how he managed to pay for that either.

The striker missed Sunderland’s 2-1 victory over Blackburn at the weekend with a groin problem.

Actually I'm not that optimistic for MC match at all even with Chelsea's win because from my point of view that was quite a controversial match... Referee missed a penalty for MC and it was 10 man team with 30 minutes remaining.

Not to mention the second goal is a penalty kick.

[QUOTE]It's Foy not Hoy! Spurs fans abuse Olympic champion instead of blunder ref

As a four-time Olympic champion and a face of the 2012 London Olympic Games you would have thought Chris Hoy was a fairly recognisable public figure.

But it seems some football fans are having trouble telling him apart from Premier League referee Chris Foy.
Cyclist Sir Chris Hoy revealed on Monday he has been on the receiving end of insulting Twitter messages from Tottenham supporters who have mistaken him for Chris Foy.

Foy was in charge of Spurs' 2-1 Premier League defeat at Stoke on Sunday, when the visitors had an Emmanuel Adebayor goal wrongly ruled out for offside, two penalty appeals for handball turned down and Younes Kaboul harshly sent off.

One of those to get the pair's identities mixed up, @chutneymutt, tweeted: 'Chris Hoy, not only are you a useless **** of a referee, you also support Stoke.'
@JohnnyJ-Smyth posted: 'Robbed ! Chris hoy calls himself a premier league referee ! £mug.'

'Just for the record 1) I don't need glasses and 2) I do not lead a double life as an English Premier League ref. That's Chris Foy,' Hoy, who won three gold medals at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, posted on the social networking site.

He continued rebutting the messages, adding: 'Still getting some rather amusing grief from Spurs fans! On the plus side I've learned some new 4 letter words today. #FoyNotHoy.'

as much as Arsenal don't have a proper full back atm, i think we should go for the win against Man City at their home.

We have such quick and powerful winger which is ManCity weak point atm. Just watch how Sturridge killed Clichy with pure speed.

Miquel was actually performing quite ok when we were playing against Man City. And that is with Dzeko and Aguero in it.

To tell the truth, I willing to bet that AW won't buy any left back during the January transfer.

I just hope that AW buy Podolski icon_rolleyes.gif

Gary Cahill could be a good choice since bolton desperate to cash out him before he turn into bosman but however we still gotta compete with other big bang

i belive Baines will cost more than Gary...

I got a sense that its going to be another goalfest like the previous Arsenal Vs Chelsea game. Both teams are highly offensive and good at counter attacks. And if our defense is worrying, then the only solution is to

Think
Gibbs can play against Wolve on 26 December..
Jenkinson should be by 21 December.. maybe after Aston Villa game on 21 December

Sagna should be back on 15 Jan vs Swansea or not later then 22 Jan vs Man Utd
huh.. hopefully Jack can come back on time to face Man Utd..

they also wan Sneijder... lolz

more happy if we can get Podolski..

with the current squad and new January signing.. probably AW wont spend for the midfield..
we got Song Arteta Ramsey at this moment, January new Signing - Jack Wilshere tongue.gif and backup player like Rosicky and Frimpong..

Winger we got Walcott and Gervinho.. backup slightly not balance as we got only Arshavin and Benayoun.. and upfront we got RVP..

so if we get Podolski, he can play winger and striker role.. Good Good Good..

My theory on why Neymar COULD be a possible signing:
1) ''If I had the money now I'd put in on Neymar.''- Arsene Wenger.
2) "Maybe we will have some opportunities because we are in a good financial situation."-Arsene Wenger

Arsenal have turned their season around following seven wins from the last eight Premier League games, to move back into contention for the top four. Much of that success has been built on the 19 goals of Robin van Persie but with both the Ivory Coast's Gervinho and Morocco's Marouane Chamakh set to be away at the Africa Cup of Nations early next year, Wenger accepts his back up in attack will be scarce. The north London also have plenty of cash reserves should he wish to strengthen the squad.

"We lose players like Chamakh and Gervinho to the Africa Cup of Nations so hopefully, touch wood, we do not get any injuries to our strikers. But if an opportunity turns up in that department then we will buy," Wenger told a supporters' Q&A session at the Emirates Stadium.

The Arsenal manager, however, feels the current financial climate is "a bit special". He said: "Economically the whole environment has changed and people suffer more. The clubs will suffer more financially and it's much more difficult. Maybe we will have some opportunities because we are in a good financial situation."

Although both the South Korea captain Park Chu-young and Russian Andrei Arshavin also offer attacking options, Wenger may look to bring in more like-for-like cover, with Cologne's Lukas Podolski one possibility.

It is. Sad to see these great players left us/retired. And AW looks so old sad.gif

It reminds me the greatest players we ever had...especially the greatest memory in 03/04. I was so proud, and I am still proud of Arsenal, the club we love, and always love deeply in the heart. rclxms.gif

Neymar cost 4 times the amount of Podolski and we know that AW does not spent that amount of money on a player.

Neymar indeed has potential, but we're talking about stepping up on RVP role if he was injured. Podolski offers more experience compared to Neymar.

fuyo.. 20mil price tag... small problem.. but 150k per week le.. expensive per goal..

if we pay Torres 20mil plus 150 per week for 4 years = 20mil + 31mil (150k x 52weeks x 4yrs) = 51mil

if we buy Podolski 15mil plus 70k per week for 4 years = 15mil + 14.5mil = 29.5mil

20mil extra can buy one more good player liao.. and if Torres is 150k per week.. how much u wan give v.Persie, Vermaelen Wilshere Gervinho and Walcott?

Podolski seems like the only possible transfer ATM, or any other younger/cheaper striker. I doubt Arsenal will break the bullcrap wage cap of 90K per week any time soon.

lolz.. i noticed u request me to explain my comments lately.. here i give u one,

my comment was after people said fed up with Arsenal signing.. then my reply is this touch of gold as anything not famous or unknown will become star player.. like Santos.. if you remember people said "Santos?, we dont need this kind of signing" when we signed him on transfer deadline..

whether Santos played in meaningless match or not, is not my call. Wenger is the manager, he got the vision and ability to judge..
after the 8-2 he buy, maybe after Santos injured he buy.. there must be reason for that?...
even u also know that not to risk Vermaelen in that match, u really tot Wenger that stupid dunno that meh?.. he played Santos and Vermaelen definately got his reason... and i dun demand him to explain to me...

if i quote people comment, everyone ask me to explain.. walau like tat win liao lor.. better i dont comment..

I trust Arsene and Arsenal.. Djourou or Arshavin or v.Persie i dun care.. as long as he wear Arsenal Shirt..

if my word offend you, then you can ignore it... maybe i just die hard too much..

whether Santos played in meaningless match or not, is not my call.

*
I'll ask if i do not understand what people are saying. and it just so happened i do not understand 2 of your comments lately, hence why i'm asking. it's not because i'm offended by what you said la i ask. this is a forum, no? forum is for discussion, what to discuss if don't understand fellow Gooner post?

and no, i do not think the boss is stupid. i actually think he is among the most intelligent person in football. however, Arsene Wenger is not god. he made mistakes, and will continue to make more. we should be discussing that along with his many success because quite simply we all love Arsenal, and we want the best for Arsenal

who was it that said we do not need Andre Santos when he signed for us? i did not remember any of those type of comments, only remember we all were glad that a replacement for Gael was brought in

hmm.gif i also have a feeling he could suit well with Arsenal. The problem with Chelsea is nobody wants to pass to him. But in Arsenal everybody pass to the striker  sweat.gif

I don't think nobody wanted to pass to him in Chels. He did receive passes but maybe they weren't too confident in him after some times. Thing is Chels build their attack from the back, they compose their march like english soldier from the back to the front, good thing- it looks really tidy and smooth. not too good is this can slow down the attack at times and Torres used to be bursting type of player in liverp. So he can be said forced to not play in his own tempo and for some reasons, he just can't score.

While we play quite an amount of bursting moves since we got the likes of gervinho, walcott and van persie. So it will be good if Torres can join us. user posted image He styles just suit ours and ours to him. user posted image . so yea, ask him to reduce wage and get into great club like us. user posted image and as an ex-red he wouldnt really want to go to the devils right?

Torres?
no lar..............he won't fit in, in terms of salary & team spirit.

RVP deserves to be the highest pay player in Arsenal.

LUKAS PODOLSKI DROPS AVAILABILITY HINT TO ARSENE WENGER

Podolski, 26, has been in sensational form and notched a 14th Bundesliga goal of the campaign in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw against Mainz.
Arsenal, along with several other clubs, have been alerted to the fact Podolski’s contract expires in two years, with him having no plans to extend it. It is believed he would be available for about £16million in January, but might leave Cologne for as little as £10m in the summer. Asked about his future, Podolski said: “If I leave Cologne, I’d be tempted to go abroad. It’s very hard to imagine moving within the same league.”

Wenger’s scouts were in Belgium last night to assess Anderlecht’s Argentine forward Matias Suarez against Lokomotiv Moscow.

off topic, today's papers said that Liverpool use AON as their insurance and it said it is like giving own goal to MU. blink.gif

Nasri can get all the tactics he like but without Arsenal he is still a little boy in a France. And he definitely contradicted himself. Last year he had far more goals now compare to at ManCity unless he only like to be an assist forever.

Podolski hmm.gif

Why Arsenal tiba tiba wan another version of Suarez? lol

Nasri has forgotten its Arsenal that gave him the chance to claim prestige award like France Footballer of the year, only thoser real good players such as Zidane and Henry get it, Benzema just got it this year.

*
LOL see how stupid chealsea buy player and lose 30M? if wenger have 30M he can make arsenal 2nd team....
for torres wage, i think he can lower it... as far i know, Persie wage is 135k right?

buying a player is always a risk, the player not performing to the price tag and need to be sold on the cheap to cut your loses is just one of the m. however, being afraid of the risk (particularly that risk) should never be the reason of not buying any player that could improve the team

for what it worth, i do not think the boss ever afraid of that risk. he said it himself on quite a number of occassions; if he found a 40 million player he will spend that much to bring him. it just that he haven't found any available
