i do still think Barcelona and Real Madrid are in a league of their own...

beatable on their worst day of course...

but it seems as if a lot of players would gladly stab their English primier league club in the back by the slightest hint that real madrid/barcelona interested in them....

and the title should be  "EPL can't compete in the Champions League as it used to be"..

"Used to"? Just last season Man Utd made the final. Are attention spans really that short these days. I'd agree if you told me English clubs haven't competed in the last decade.

no need to butthurt bro

as I said earlier in my post, the statistics speak for itself

overall winner

spanish clubs 13
italian clubs 12
english clubs 11

over the last 10 years, there were 3 same country finals in UCL

2000 real madrid vs valencia
2003 ac milan vs juventus
2008 manu vs chelsea

so its pretty much balanced

Yup, EPL's top 6 currently is actually pretty good. Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool.

I don't see why EPL losing 2 teams is the end of the road for EPL, so since Spain's Valencia and Villareal out, means La Liga can't compete too?

It's just unfortunate that Man Utd's blip came at the crucial moment of Champions League group stage.

Each league has it's own style. England, Spain, Italy and Germany are on par with each other in terms of top teams.

this

iirc for both 07-08 and 08-09 season, each of the semifinals had 3 english teams and 1 spanish team which is barca...it's absurd funny to even suggest based on this season alone, just because two english teams were eliminated, they cant compete in CL anymore (like they used to be)...last time i checked four english teams qualified for this tournament this season

I'm not butthurt dude, I'm just wondering how people define, "compete"? Competing means you're there and abouts year in, year out. Doesn't mean you have to win it. Now if you were a Bulgarian club for example, then you aren't being competitive. The fact that there are two English clubs in the next round suggests that they are still competing and the fact that English clubs have been through to the latter stages of the knockout rounds suggest that they are still competitive. Is anyone suggesting that clubs like Ajax, Marseille, and Lyon aren't competitive? Sure no one expects them to win the trophy, but they are still hard to play against every year.

Once again, I'm not here to advocate that English clubs are better, because I don't really bother. I watch the Premiership and if someone else thinks it's crap, that's their opinion. I can't however fathom why people would think English clubs aren't competitive though? Would we be having this conversation last season, or are we only having it because the Manchester clubs were knocked out this year?

yes... i refer "used to be" to that times when the thought of EPL top 2 leader gone out at group stage would be horrendous..

Yes but you can't then say that Spanish clubs are not competitive and English clubs rule Europe just because it happened once. Like I said earlier as well, I think comments like "no longer being competitive", need to take into account a longer time frame. Just as Man City won't win the Champions League overnight despite spending massive mulah, clubs from a particular league won't suddenly disappear from Europe.

I think we can all agree on one thing at least,
the title of this thread sucks

its misleading and is not true.

how to justify "can't compete"

got 2 english teams not competing meh?

on a different subject

I watched manu vs barcelona UCL final with najib in putrajaya last may

before the game start, the host call ppl on stage to interview and give freebies
I found it weird that when a few of them when asked who they want to win, they say manu
but when the host ask the team that they support, they say "i'm actually a liverpool fan"

to me its weird, liverpool is manu arch rival but they rather manu won it then barcelona

what do you guys think about this english fanboyism?

I think it's absurd. I'd never root for my rival. I'm surprised you've come across such people because I don't know any Liverpool fan who would root for Man Utd.

I think that fans are more like I support an EPL club and I rather see EPL club won than others

In other words, EPL fans. not weird actually. since most of us are not indirectly "related" with one club. ( I meant locally)
