curve 9300 user here contemplating to get the bold 9790
- better camera w AF, and VGA video
- better screen reso
- capacitive touch screen
- better keyboard
- better/newer OS 7.1 (with wifi hotspot too?)
- faster processor
- built in 8GB
- more RAM
- with NFC
- battery??

guess i have quite a list of pluses to upgrade (uh and some extra money to spend).  just some concern on the battery now - with my curve 3G am on always on EDGE  - only switch to 3G if i need to browse or dl apps.

Generally speaking, I'm a bit disappointed with the battery life on the newer OS7 devices - RIM's supplying tiny capacity batteries all in the name of thinness which I feel is the wrong priority for a company focused on enterprise-level communication and true push notification.

My 9790 can easily last the whole day (I charge every night so I've never used a full charge longer than a day) on 2G with heavy usage.. but with moderate usage, it can last 7am-10pm on 3G. I am still looking for a compatible extended battery though, found 2 options claimed to not require cloning but I am uncertain if they work with OS7.1.

waaahhh quite pricey the battery. why not try the sun global? here:
http://www.lelong.com.my/blackberry-bold4-...2-08-Sale-P.htm

btw,is there a way to switch off the touch screen function?
since i'd rather use the trackpad, better switch off the touch screen function than leaving it sucking my battery juice.

Pricey?? It's USD9.90 for the 1500mah battery and USD11.99 for the 3600mah battery. Cheaper than the Sun-Global battery. I've ordered 1 unit of the 3600mah batt with bundled fat battery cover. Not really bothered about the NFC antenna for now because no one I know is actually using NFC.

Anyway, I've had a bad experience with SG on my Torch 9810 - the SG battery fit so damned tight that I needed to damage the phone's battery bay with a knife to pull the battery out. And anyway, it didn't really give me significantly longer battery life compared to the ori battery.

i havent change to sun global yet. bcos im still quenching the juice of my brightstar stock battery.
till it's "dry",i'm gonna use it. then buy a sun global.

but i did buy a sun global for my previous 9780,and apparently there's a slight extend of battery life.
not that long like some would think of,but at least an added 3-5hours life on heavy twitter/whatsapp/etc.
and it isnt that expensive too. even a ciplak grade A battery also cost almost/around 50,so why not add another 10 to get a "recommended" bb battery.

I engaged the seller in a live chat session and asked for a single unit order. Assuming I'm not conned, the battery should arrive within 3 weeks.

I bought the 3600mah batterry with cover. It's supposedly able to work without having to clone the batt, which I doubt. I also suspect that OS7.1 is more sensitive to non-ori batteries compared to OS7.0 but it's a risk I'm willing to take for less than RM40. In any case, I paid via paypal - exactly USD11.99. Shipping is free but it'll take 3 weeks or so to arrive.

9790 is awesome already? Now I'm using bold 3. Considered an upgrade? Thinking of 9900 but a lot of people are complaining!

Do you mean Bold 9780 as a Bold 3 ..?

Bold 9780 to Bold 9790 is a good upgrade., and yeah.. 9790 is a successor to the 9780/9700 , while 9900 is the successor for 9000 and stand it its own class.

As I have stated before, if you choose 9900 size, design, keypad, shape.... you won't go for 9790

9790 is awesome, it has awesome features and also 'powerful'

although it may have lesser features such as 720p HD recording, but 9790 has autofocus camera which is useful to take detailed pictures.. such as documents, cards, words , etc...

some are saying that bold 4 keypad silver lining always fall out.
i go for bold 5 cause of the design, AF, and specs.

if you want higher specs, go for bold 4,
if you consider size and AF(auto-focus is a deal for me) then go for bold 5.
i've been using bold 5 for 4 months now and the only time my phone lag around is when i force the phone to multitask tooooo much.. drool.gif

Finally received my 3600mah battery, it look less than 2 weeks to arrive. At USD11.99 (free shipping), the price is not too bad.

Best feature so far, the battery doesn't need cloning smile.gif

Am thinking the batt is too fat to my liking, perhaps I will sell it off and go for the smaller 1500mah batt from the same CN seller.
