Stax SR009, Impedance: 145k Ohms. Really? wow.  shocking.gif

T h2. mmmmmm...... ugly tongue.gif

Ya, the funny think is that many high end stuffs looks ugly. Maybe they said Audiophiles prefer sound quality over fashion are true.

QUOTE(hongrui @ Dec 1 2011, 01:24 PM)
Stax Signature isn't for everyone. i tried a pretty good SR007 setup before, but it wasn't to my liking. anyway, it was just a theoretical exercise just to show how far along you can really go, if you want to spend. for me personally, if you give me that particular setup i proposed, i still would have sold away the HD800 in favor of a T1 or LCD-3.

each to his own poison, as i like to say.
*
Ya of course. He did said assuming that budget is of no constraint what is the Ultimate Combo. Aside from sound preference the stax should be one of the few ultimate combo currently have to offered. Anyway man now you prefer your T1 more or LCD2?

Ah didn't realize that. Google only seems to give me back results on the AD-300. I might check them out if I can find them at the shops.

By placing games in front of your usage do you mean it will be mainly used for gaming? Anyway, I think your choice was spot on for the DT770 because it suits your needs very well. The sound stage is quite decent for a closed can and is actually a bass heavy headphones (at least for me). It should perform very well for gaming/movies.

I couldn't think of any other headphones at that budget that suits you better because you are fussy very firm on your requirements  laugh.gif  Well most importantly, you tried the DT770 80ohm and you like it and the other headphones at that range are either open/have smaller earcups/possess different sound signature/simply doesn't perform as good as the 770 pro.
*
Yes mainly games, because I don't listen to music that much at home. I've heard that the DT770 is bass heavy, but I guess I liked it when I tried it at Jaben (playing some deadmau5 and Black Kids from my Omnia 7 paired with a Hippo amp borrowed from them).

Yes I'm quite firm on the need for comfy fit. biggrin.gif

I mainly listen to music only at work and when on the MRT/bus, and for that I'm not too fussy at the moment. Just using the IEMs that came with my phone as I like having the in-line mic and controls.

This was the output from my thread Superlux VS Shure
SHURE SRH440- better sound clarity, smooth sound, lack of bass.
Superlux HD660- the best of all, superlux model stated, good bass, not so smooth sound, the sound tends to mix the high, and mid. but still better than mixstyle dj headphone that costs rm10.
ok, i thought the result was predictable.

Let me try to describe more music preference. I like bass, and if the bass is BOOM it should sounds BOOM not BUUM or BUU or BOOB.
However, i also like rock music that really need to have better soundstage bcause i want to hear and differentiate all the instruments in it, the guitar, drums, bass, violin and bla bla..
I tried monster beat solo HD and studio. I kinda like the sound, but from reading, some people said can get better cans with lower price range.
So, can anybody recommend me a Monster Beats Sudio-like sound headphone, but of course better. mybe with preamp. Thank you.
Btw price range is below 400. Thank you

money no constrain i also wouldn't recommend Stax. Unless you tried and really liked the signature. i had friends who tried to go Stax, spent and sold and finally came back to Dynamics, while others stay on with Stax.

T1 vs LCD-2 i've got no opinion yet. i'm just burning in the LCD-2 now, slight changes here and there but gotta wait till the xmas weekend when i get back home to my home rig and spend some quality time with them both together.

Below 400 and with quality bass..try Denon AH-D501 or Sennheiser HD4x8 series. Have a look at Beyerdynamic DT231 pro too.

Seems like your source is quite well done. That's why you dare to buy so many high end stuffs. If you were to choose, you think which is your most restricting thing right now?

Those two also can be considered. So it falls into your sound preferences. The superlux surely will have a technical level / sound quality that is hard to be beaten by most mid range headphone. The only part they loose is the smoothness part.

biggest issue i'm facing now is the ICs and power which i'm getting and sorting out via ICs, power cond + power cords. will not be getting tweaks such as footers and stuff as i'm expecting to move next year. Might be getting a turn table in mid of next year as a source upgrade if finances allow. don't think i'm getting other headphones as nothing much available currently / in the near future is interesting, except maybe for the Fostex TH900.

my portable setup is pretty much maxed out, while my home rig can be pushed further, i do not think its worthwhile to do so. if i do move into my own place next year, will most definitely be investing and setting up speakers with a cdp and tt.

Yes, it's selling for around RM6xx here in Malaysia, it's a steal for that price I will say.

If I still remember my experience with the HD558 correctly, it is quite balanced pair of headphones, neither too bright or too dark. Being the first pair of open headphones I try, the soundstage is great but it doesn't really impress me that enough to make me believe that open headphones have a wider soundstage than closed headphones - which is a consensus in the audiophile world. Don't get me wrong though, it's still one of the better ones I've tried, soundstage wise.

Due to my preference of music being bright/piercing treble, the headphones didn't impress much. It feels like a more laid back headphones, treble is quite tamed and the bass, despite being punchy, would definitely be considered insufficient for basshead. Sound leakage is a problem too as my friend can hear me playing Taylor Swift songs (which I used to find the missing treble) laugh.gif

Can't say I like the headphones, I just feel that it doesn't have a "unique" point that impresses me or the signature just doesn't suit my preference. It is definitely one of the most comfortable pair of headphones I've tried due to the big ear cups and high quality velour pads. The fact that it has a non-intrusive sound and provides a comfortable wearing experience make it a great pair of headphones for long hours usage.

It's still a very good pair of headphones, not to mention that with some easy mod you can turn this into the HD598 nod.gif

- My Rig: iPhone 4/PC (lol)
- Type of usage: music biggrin.gif
- File format: mp3/m4a
- Music genre: er ... pop ... ? acoustics? rock? mainstream stuff I guess.
- Budget: 200+? Feel free to recommend anything above that budget though, since I don't really know what price should I start with for this 'hobby', lol.
- Headphone/ earphone type: Headphone. Circumaural.
- Other requirements (if any): Best if the headphones feel 'solid' ...

My friend bought a pair of M50's as his very first pair of good headphones ... but considering that it's for monitoring ... I doubt I'll be able to appreciate that level of sound quality. They look sexy though. Very, sexy. Actually thought of testing them out ... but I may just get poisoned.

Also, looking for a pair of cheap and decent in ears. My experience with in ears wasn't really good ... never liked them at all. Thought of giving them another try, probably with something under 100? Any recommendations?

Oh, and is there anything that can be done with the 'body' of the headphone jack? The case for my phone has a very narrow slot for headphones ... and the body of my HD 201 (broken here and there) can't fit unless I remove the case.

Oh ... one last thing. I see most headphone reviews talk about high, mids and lows. Though I can imagine what they mean ... but I don't really know for sure. Any explanation or a good article for me to read up would be good biggrin.gif

the M50s are not really flat monitoring headphones, they do pack a good bass punch.

nothing beats sitting down and actually listening to iems and headphones. go to jaben or a meet where you can meet and listen to other headphones and you will get an idea of what are the mids, highs and lows.

a good all rounder musical iem would be the DUNU Trident, but its slightly over your budget.

- My Rig: iPhone 4/ macbook air 2011 11"/ PC (windows)
- Type of usage: music/ video editing
- File format: mp3/m4a/
- Music genre: pop, rock, most current hits
- Budget: 200 - 500, though i'd prefer to spend on the lesser side, 500 is my max
- Headphone/ earphone type: Headphone (I hate IEM and earbuds)
- Other requirements (if any): Since iphone4 and macbook air both got bluetooth capability, a bluetooth headset would be a bonus at this price range. kinda like the looks of some of these huge headsets (beats for example) but most of them kinda too expensive..

I'm in KL tomorrow, so I wanna shop for it tomorrow, so speedy recommendations are appreciated, thanks.
