Aiya... You know I never mean everything. And I stressed that No touch screen. How to play without touch screen... It's just that most of the apps that make our life convenient Eg: gps(garmin/nokia map), expenses, office, barcode scanner... ... My phone got no prob with them. If I get android, the extra thing android has is just gaming. bigger screen, touch screen, others still ok for me.

1) ICS updates for Galaxy W

I'm curious about that website saying that this phone won't be able to upgrade to ICS. Sony confirmed all of their new devices (using 1Ghz processor with 512MB ram, even from the low end xperia mini) would get ICS. Samsung galaxy S is getting ICS, so why won't the rest of glaxy SL, S+ or W get ICS? They have nearly identical specs. Unless samsung is too lazy to write up the codes for them (which I doubt). Samsung are among the fastest to release updates for all of their android phones and it's weird that they won't support ICS for galaxy W. But, whatever happens, only time will tell. We'll see.

2) Battery life

I've been using it for 3 days. With full data plan on (HSDPA), light surfing + facebook + twitter + ym + sns + autosync on, I get around 8 hours max before getting 10% telling me to charge. A lot of my friends have galaxy SL, S, S2, and mini, gio (used to be mine), ace, fit with batteries ranging from 1200mAh to 1650mah (S2). AMOLED to SC-LCD to normal lcd, most have battery life about 8 hours tops with full data on.

A lot of them complain to me saying why the battery life is so short compare to blackberry or other phones. It is because its android. I installed juice defender for them, but it kinda defy the phone to be fully online since juice defender cut-off your data plan when you're screen is off. I told them if you want to save batteries, don't use data plan so it can last at least 2 days.

Btw, I found that the battery cell in my phone is made in japan, finish in china (not korea..) Could this be AP set? I dunno..

3) Gaming

I haven't played heavy games, but installed a few like angry birds + fruit slice. I know this phone has the Adreno 205, quite good for gaming but it is not really a gaming device for me.

4) Phone hang

Yes, the phone hang sometimes, even when I click the menu button to revert to homescreen. My friends who have galaxy SL, galaxy S, galaxy S2 complain that their phones also hang sometimes. It's android, and it will hang.

5) Connectivity issues

No, I haven't had any issues with wifi not connected. Although there are times the HSDPA keeps on disconnecting (maybe it's my phone line)

6) Build quality

I know at first I said this phone is solidly built, but after a few days using it, the back cover gives a subtle creaking sound especially below the camera since it doesn't have a clip there. Not really a big issue, just annoying for me. My friends with a Galaxy S also have the same issues, though he didn't mind or notice it but not for me cause I'm kind of a perfectionist..haha

7) Should I buy or should I not question?

So far, I got no serious issues with this phone. It's worth the money invested. I wanted to buy a Galaxy S since I've used galaxy gio before (just too slow for me) and when I heard that this phone came out, I bought it without second thought. I have RM1200 to buy a phone but why not Galaxy S? or Galaxy SL? or S+? Coz I don't need them. Iphone is big enough for me and I don't need any bigger so i can hold it on one hand. They all got nearly identical spec minus the screen or the gorilla. Gorilla or not, you'll end up buying those anti-fingerprint screen protector anyway like all of my friends do.

I've rooted my friends ace, mini, fit and S2. There are quirks here and there but it's android. It will hang from time to time. It's the nature of android. If you really want a smooth device go buy Iphone or Windows phone from Nokia (coming out soon). You can't expect it to be on par with iOS. Why? Because iOS has been around for years and it is fully optimized for iphone (1 device, nevermind the ipad). But android has been around only for a couple of years and to optimized them to whole range of devices with different specs, it's not an easy task. And they are still improving.

For those who wants to buy it, just do it. It works. It's a good price for the performance you get. This is my 3rd phone this year. So I wish you all the best

Don't think samsung is the fatest to update, not sure for the phone. But for tablet. Tab 10.1 still not updated to 3.2 even asus and acer got the update months ago. Also the new release (euro & israel) tab 10.1, already shipped with 3.2.. Still malaysia device no update...

Luckily the xda is more faster.

Hi, new here and interested in getting this phone. After skimming through both threads, I have a few questions:

i) Phones sold by Lycus Trading are stated to have 2 years warranty. Are they like aaronac's as in 1 year by Samsung and 1 year by another company?

ii) Amroth said his battery is made in Japan and finished in China. This is a sign of AP?

iii) Are all apps automatically installed into internal memory or some apps can be installed into SD memory?

iv) Would rooting cause void of warranty? As in, can they detect phones which have been unrooted?

v) How's the camera compared to, say, Sony Ericsson's 5MP camera?

vi) Last question.. Anyone know if Huawei Honor will match Galaxy W pricing-wise? Cause the former seem to have better specs..

Everything checked, according to possible problems mentioned here (since 1st thread).

Mine is 100% ok

Battery 100%, i got the beeping signal.

I got grey kaler because sked dirty it.

AP units are units that are parallel imported into the country, hence no official warranty but relies on a "shop" warranty from the place of purchase. So long as your unit has an official warranty, it's considered an original unit, regardless of the components.

i dun have clip to show u. but experience among my friends. i just share my thoughts. it all depend on u bro~

htc > samsung.. htc r more durable, i pick samsung cos it cheap like acer lappy.

i read somewhere notice bout the battery some made in china. it should be made in japan & finish in korea. AP actually is out there already just u guys din notice. they all said is real cos received sms from samsung. i think better call them to confirm the serial number.

some shop i know, u might dunno but i'm pretty sure others know~
they might sell u real set but charger, battery or sd card they change to those lousy fake 1 to users. same go to lappy/desktop. as for AP set some r good but mostly they changed all the parts. nowadays really hard to differentiate which is real or unreal. all b'cos the themes of "U HELP ME, I HELP U!"

Samsung smartphones are equivalent to Acer laptops? Bad analogy, I'd say. High end Samsung models cost around 2k plus, so it's definitely not that cheap like you said. Yeah, Samsung is slow in getting firmware updates, but you can always flash to other region's newer firmware using Odin unless you're a newbie. As long as you get the original SME warranty, there's no need to worry some of the parts are not original or whatsoever.

Just my 2 cents.

Whoever deciding to buy this phone, need not still wait like me previously.

The performance is far much better than Ace. Do try to compare if you have chance. It's smooth like peanut butter!

i'm newbie stated earlier. like we said got sme warranty, if the battery spoiled & wish 2 changed it, samsung said the battery is fake & it can't claimed how?

no offense cos i faced a lot fake stuff mostly on electrics stuff. i damn particular v this kinda stuff.

i stick with 50 cent!

if really worried get from authorised SME/SEP then. expensive but peace of mind.
