First confirmed by timleerj. Then I tested with the Celcom sim card I got with the Note, turned the network to 2G/Edge and switch data connection vigorously from Edge to Wifi back and forth. Nothing. Then brought another phone, make a call while the Nexus is in Edge/2G. Nothing as well. Did this 5 times in succession in each case.

You have to run the 900MHz signal of another phone near the volume rocker.

Added on December 2, 2011, 1:41 pmHow fast does the camera loads up from Lock Screen and Home/App screen.

Try again after you seasoned the phone, as there was real significant delay loading the camera app from video reviews, which really irks me.

And so snappy! Ive taxed this by launching Twitter, Facebook, DICE player, 5 tabs of web browsers, playinf music on "3" oon the background,  and still it runs smooth like butter! Unbelievable!

How's the camera loading speed from lock screen and home screen?

Either that, or Google has some deep software-hardware optimization with the Nexus, that I was seriously doing a double take, am i using an Android device or an iOS device. I'm grown used to the snappiness of my iPhone4S, and now I dare say that the Nexus matches it in every way. Bravo, Google! I never thought there would come a time when I can claim an Android device as snappy as an iOS device, but Google has done it with the Nexus!
*
That is really hard to believe, not that I don't trust you.

iOS developed closely to couple with in-house designed hardware, while Android was merely something that runs on almost every hardware, if not all.

It's like comparing between Mac OS against Windows, where Windows still fails in term of performance of programs in overall.

But you did say ShadowGun failed on GNex right? Perhaps a newer version from developer will fix that. hmm.gif

wow..so many people pulling the trigger already...

Based on my usage on SGS, I'd say Samsung's phone is pretty reliable. Never send it in for warranty claim before. So I guess buying online not that risky afterall?

But I'd still have to wait for official phones, as I am contacting kangtao for extra discounts. Hope the wait don't kills me.

bt i tot there's a min usage per mth of rm30 ?

or diff device diff tnc

anyway

I WANT NEXUS T____________________________T
*
It's a min charge of RM30 / month, not usage.

Whatever not used, will be accumulated. So it's something like a pre-paid kind of subscription, but you have to commit at least RM30 each months.

Hmm, or just Nexian? tongue.gif
How about NexO? Nexus Owner.

And people will start calling us dull. lol.

QUOTE(phantomash @ Dec 3 2011, 02:05 AM)
Android on Nexus is about as "in house" as iOS on iPhone gets.

The Nexus is developed by a team consisting members from Google, a hardware manufacturer (Samsung), and chipmaker (TI). The GNex is built to run ICS, this is about as good as it gets in terms of software + hardware integration on Android.

Also, don't forget that iOS is just another operating system. Similarly to Android, it is possible to port iOS to other device too, except that it is close source.
*
With all the screen dumps and JB on iOS, still not possible to get it installed on other devices?

Anyway, if TI is designed to run ICS, API might be abolished to achieved much higher performance, over compatibility. I m guessing iOS might abolish the use of API and make direct calls to hardware as they dont need to support that many different hardware. hmm.gif

Aside from acting as a stand for the phone, what else does the dock do?

That's 1 heck of a high profile car dock for phone! lol.

If only it could swivel 360 degree. But nevertheless, it's interesting to have USB and audio jack on the holder!!! rclxms.gif

The other spare battery charger though... so so only. doh.gif

Worth a read regarding ICS UI on utilising the GPU.

Now, someone did mention that ICS is close to iOS. I did mentioned that developer could do away with API to further optimise on performance and sacrifice compatibility. I guess, if Apple take this road, our Android would still be very far away from achieving the kind of smoothness Apple is having on their iOS UI.

Though I might be wrong, but who could prove that iOS is using any sort of API calls to the GPU, or it's just some low level call from the OS itself? Afterall, Apple is owning some shares (though not significant) in Imagination Technologies.

GNex has nicer screen due to the smaller pixels, while GNote has noticeable jagged text, similar to SGS.

The browser doesnt come with this feature, or it was disabled (default)?

So far Sammy's browsers never lacked of text reflow yet.

Added on December 6, 2011, 12:58 amNotice in GSM Arena that this phone is called "Samsung Galaxy Nexus" instead of "Samsung Google Galaxy Nexus" or "Samsung Galaxy Google Nexus". Previous Nexus phones naming was "<brand> Google Nexus <model>".

I wonder what is the implication of this new naming, or it wasnt really a Google phone? Did Google changed their name to Galaxy? lol.

GSM Arena should called Google Galaxy Nexus or just Galaxy Nexus without the manufacturer name. Same with Google One and Nexus S without HTC or Samsung name infront of it o_O
*
In GSM Arena's listing...
Samsung Google Nexus S
HTC Google Nexus One

etc...

Manufacturer's name was listed, though I'm not 100% sure if those were the official announced/approved name by Google.

Hiyo, taiko, does the name really matters? That is for Google and Samsung to worry about. I think unofficially we over in this thread have already short termed it "GNex. Most important is when its officially coming here la  tongue.gif

Btw, still using SGS ah? Hehe. It feels so slow nowadays.

Yeah since Maxis is lowering the price for Nexus S, it is a sign that they will be bringing GNex but when? I believe it wont be around the 16 Dec range since IP4S is going to be launched then and i doubt they will let GNex affect the sales of IP4S. My best estimation is early Jan, after the IP4S hype ends and if they smart, launch it 2-3 weeks before CNY to generate better sales.

If they launch it in Feb, then by that time people will be hyping over SGS3 and the sales of GNex will be like Nexus S last year. Lets see how smart are those Telco sales people.....
*
I'm very particular on naming of products. "GNex" was just a term we coined here for easy reference and typing as well.

I'm afraid if 1 day, there's a phone called Google Nexus Galaxy, which is the true official Google phone, while Samsung Galaxy Nexus, was just another line of product by Samsung, which happens to be the first phone running ICS. So it was christened "Nexus", but it could by all means, not related to "Google Nexus" line of products or ideology. Anyway, I'm just babbling. Seeing that the ICS on GNex is plain vanilla (without power bar buttons @ notif bar. I hope there's a hack for the framework to make it like TouchWiz's. I love them!).

Yeah, still stuck with SGS. The Nexus S by Maxis is tempting, but if I buy it (no SAMOLED, boo-boo) and GNex, it's costing too much in the end. laugh.gif

I expect it to run on ext4, as does with SGS2. No point seeing it using other filesystem for the time being. shakehead.gif
