Understandable. The Note case, then?
*
Doesn't Note came with free original Samsung case? If it's not the case here, perhaps it's in US (only?), where I read news, GNote came along with one.

As for Samsung original case, price is steep. If the sales is not good, they can't justify for the courier charge on shipment. I think they would have their planning department working full time to get things moving, just that the demand is not high enough.

For eg: I was expecting to see the battery case for SGS to be sold here. Unfortunately, Samsung only carries one for S2, and it's NOT exactly affordable. So a lot decided not to buy it in the end.

I'm perfectly okay with buying online, but I'd rather see it with my own two eyes first before buying it, hence the need for the local availability. I'm baffled by Samsung's own refusal to bring in their own accessories for their own phone. Or is there no market for accessories here other than cheap silicones and TPUs?
*
Well, Samsung did went ahead and brought in plenty of accessories for their GTab10.1/8.9 product. Though every outlet has about 2-3 of the same type of case only, not many. Many even said that concept store/Sammy outlet constantly ran out of USB connection kit, which seems to sell... quite well, in comparison.

Good to hear.

But see, even that Samsung stand/battery charger isn't available here. Why?

Samsung made it available in Korea and not here. Why? Malaysians takder duit ke?
*
Simple, demand doesn't meet their target.

As for your "demand doesn't meet target", you're kidding right? Every Tom, d*** and Harry I know carrying an Android device is clamoring for extra capacity batteries to cover their usage in a day. More often in my experience in getting my preferred accessories is that the "target" clamors for it, and the "demand" couldn't follow through.
*
No, I'm not kidding. Not everyone willing to pay that much for an extra battery, with hassle of opening the casing (it was better on S2 and GNex for easy open rear battery case, but not quite for SGS though). There were already alternatives such as external battery pack with USB connection to charge the device.

Which is why, the low demand just can't justify their action to bring in the accessories.

Aside from that, SME might not be a child company of Samsung Korea, but just a local licensed distributor. Which could mean they are more reluctant to bring in items which they think might rot in their showroom/outlets.

Besides, when I was saying meeting the target, I wasn't even thinking of 1-to-1 ratio. Not even close to 10-to-1 (phone to case). The sales might be as bad as 200/300 phones sold to 1 case original case/battery sold. Looks good? Not from my point of view though.

I won't complain though, if they would have the units for display only. As long as it's source-able from online shops.

SME might be facing the difficulties of bringing in the 1% of accessories that you stated. You might not know if SK (Samsung Korea) was imposing a minimal 30% - 50% of accessories over phone's shipments, or dont import at all.

Only the insider will know.

and Samsung, strangely doesn't want my money. Or are the populace here already accepted their fate about buying accessories online only?

lol, you can't expect SME to fulfil your 1 person's need, or the minority, and face losses for the rest of the unsold stock, right?

QUOTE(stringfellow @ Dec 7 2011, 03:06 AM)
come'on, don't be so stupid. Not everyone wants to buy shoddy third party cheap stuff to cover their expensive investment. A premium investment needs premium insurance, you don't protect your expensive BMW with Ah Long car insurance do you?
Analogy doesn't quite apply to our scenario here, as competing motor insurance prices are controlled. It's your choice to pick the insurance company. For your accessories case, original accessories by Samsung definitely cost more than other ciplak brand.

QUOTE(stringfellow @ Dec 7 2011, 03:06 AM)
Ordering online also comes with its own dangers and cost. Items getting lost, seller not trustable on eBay, sales tax at originating country slapped onto the purchase, not to mention the risk of being held at customs and taxed again here. Having it being made available here, eliminated all these problems, price them appropriately for local market, and you, the end user, gets a chance to look at it, inspect it, and try it before you buy it. How is that not a good thing? shakehead.gif
*
For your case, a couple of item probably doesn't hit the taxable value.

As for eBay, you will have Paypal to protect you.

While I believe Close has original accessories for your phone, right? I didn't check though.

I still won't know if SME would bring in GNex original accessories or not, until the phone is official launched here.

First of all. It may seem like I'm the only one here harping much on this, but now at least I know there's two. Look at the post above this quoted post.
*
You can keep ranting on this, but the figure just not attractive enough for SME to put their money in, unfortunately.

OTOH, in case you decided to delve into this business of providing original accessories for phones (if not just Samsung), we would be more than happy to source it from you. biggrin.gif

Oh ya, aside from that. Buying expensive original case which also means 1 thing. You might have to protect the case too, cause it's expensive. Imagine you might not willing to left it on the table, if it was damped or has some stain, as opposed to using cheap cheap case.

As for your dock, how much did you pay for that 1 item + shipping?

Expensive here is subjective. Like I mentioned it before, one of the forum member here mentioned the official leather pouch for the Galaxy Note priced at USD25 as "expensive". Not to me, at that price, if I get it dirty , then so be it. I'd rather have that pouch dirty than a scuffed and scratched Galaxy Note.

I'm not looking for a freaking RM300 case here glittered with Swarovski crystals, I'm looking for a freaking GBP20 official leather pouch that is supposed to be here when Samsung released the Galaxy Note. Is that too much to ask? Are Malaysians that cheap?
*
Would you still opt for that case if SME is pricing it at RM180 - RM200? And this figure is just a conservative estimation I made. Usually the official price is close to double of those price you can get from online + shipping.

Is that still subjective on price or plain stupid to pay such amount? doh.gif

Is that a fact? I see Samsung pricing their Samsung Galaxy S2 accessory like the MHL-HDMI adapter sold at Low Yap Plaza pretty reasonably. Even you yourself said the USB connection kit for the Tab sold "quite well", and judging the thriftiness of the Malaysian crowd, would not have happened if it's expensive?
*
S2 power pack battery, this. Last shop with big big SAMSUNG logo in their shop, quoted me RM339. thumbup.gif

Aside from that, the USB connection kit leave many of us no choice. I was waiting for 64gb one, unfortunately SME don't even bother to bring it. Of course, they might deem that 64gb has not enough demand. Then there aren't many 3rd party China made USB kit easily found here, unless you get it online. So many went ahead with it. And with that, if 1 shop decided to throw in discount, every jumps into the ship, seeing that getting discount is better than not, even the after discount, it still cost 3x of china brand.

This doesn't shows the popularity of the accessories, more like lacked of choice.

Are you daft? Why should I bring this in, when it is Samsung's responsibility to bring in decent enough accessories for their own phone? This is first party for God's sake, not third party! If it's third party, I wouldn't be harping on it, I'd be going to their respective websites and purchase it from there. What's more pathetic than me having to buy Samsung's own official accessories at a THIRD PARTY website like Clove or Mobilefun, than Samsung themselves? doh.gif
Well, keep harping then, to see if SME would see your point.

Good luck trying ya! Ganbatte! We all support you!

But just ranting in LYN won't be enough, bomb them with emails. Pester them about accessories everyday. Maybe someday, someday you get what you want, when Galaxy SXX is out.

RM2000 is not premium, when you have Vertu in the market.

Fine, you're cheap. But what about those who wants choice in their accessories in terms of better quality and don't mind paying a little bit extra for that quality? SME here simple pass that responsibility and choice to third party accessories, in which a few of us have said, prefer something of a better quality than shoddy china-brand cases. It's like they forcing everyone to buy these shoddy china-brand cases, or look elsewhere (online, parallel importers) and be slaughtered by them. When it is their responsibility to bring in these first party accessories together with the phone at launch.
*
Here we go again, back to square one.

Tell SME how many units of accessories you want and see if they layan?

Minority, like I said earlier. Doesn't justify in their business money making modal. Even if every person here (less than 100) would make that request, they might not layan, the figure simply is too small.

If you buy Vertu, they would be kind enough to include a nice case for you, which is NOT for sale. Just mark up another 50% over the case original price.

Being that rich, you wouldn't even bother. That's what called premium.

If someday I do get Samsung to actually do what they're supposed to do and bring their stuff in, people like you also benefit what? You wanted choice, and me "harping on this" allows people like you more choice to choose from which accessory is good for your phone. Talk about contradiction, man.

Sigh. Penat aku melayan mamat nih. That is third party battery la. What I'm talking about here are first party accessories from Samsung themselves. That battery is from Droidax. Samsung has no control whatsoever over the price of third party merchandises.doh.gif

So you're saying that is there is a China made 3rd party USB Kit and is cheaper, the majority of people will flock to it instead of the official USB Kit? Price > quality ?
*
I admit, that was a bad example. How about a link from Clove itself? Usually UK price is higher than the rest, let's give it a benefits of doubt, ok?

After conversion, around RM270. Shipping to UK from Korea is farther, which eventually should cost more for the importer. If I'm seeing the same battery pack selling for RM339 here, it just doesn't justify the amount they are charging.

So my choice? I don't buy it. I might still bite, if it's below RM300.

There, SME lost another prospect customer and inventory remained the same. Doesn't look too good for their budget plan, I would say.

Well, I guess your definition of premium and my definition of premium is different. I guess with all that I've achieved so far financially, my definition of premium here is still more inferior than yours. But funnily you buy cheap cases for your phones, while I look for more "premium" cases for my not-so-premium (by your definition, of course) phone. Weird eh? wink.gif

By the way, Vertu phones doesn't come with a case. If it does, it's third party. Again, the cheap case version you see being sold on eBay. Same argument again. icon_rolleyes.gif
*
Didn't bother, cause it's too premium. The case itself (if any) can buy my computer already, no point looking.

Anyway, I've planned to not use any case for the phone once I get it, just to enjoy the finely crafted contours by Google (?). Unfortunately, it felt really slippery smooth to hold (not as slippery as iPad2 though). I can foresee I might drop the phone 3 times in a year, at least. sweat.gif

The barely there (name?) case shown on the video few pages back was really nice and tempting. Low profile and hopefully it doesn't affect the NFC's performance. wub.gif
