I see you have a few DX lens, if you go D700 only the 24-70 would be useful. When you go D700, you need to refresh your lens line up.

Ask yourself, do you need the telephoto range from 70200? If yes, then 70200. If not, D700.

how about the older 80-200 two-touch? that doesn't have VR though but it's cheaper and that'll allow you to save up just a little bit more to get a D700

What are you using the camera for?

I would definitely recommend the D7000 over the D300s. You've a nice budget there! D7000+MB-D11+SB900(or SB910?)+17-55 if I had 8k to spend on a new DX system.

+1.
eventhough d7k its better in term of IQ etcetera, there's also few user out there prefer d300s, because of the size and the 51 focus point.
and the combination of D7k +MB-D11+SB900/SB910+17-55 F2.8 = boombastic DX King!!!

i think i need it. but at the same time my D90 didnt give the satisfaction result with my 2470, maybe because the lens didnt give out his full potential on DX Crop body..aiya tough decision though..

im just afraid the 80200 didnt give satisfaction, especially to the color the lense produced compared to the VRII

its always better to get glass first, but in d700 case i think get body first. its freaking hard to find d700 brand new in stock right now.it took me so long i almost gave up finding one in stock (tq fotokem! notworthy.gif )
however, i think nikon wont drop d700 from production anytime soon, they will continue produce d700/d800 since both bodies cater to different target market (700 for photo/800 for video) and 70200, u can buy anytime cos its a new lens.
and since u got 2470 already, can just use the 2470 as ur daily lens. 2470 more then enuff to cover all sorts of events

Good suggestion. Well, some people would just love to get the latest and greatest. To each his own.

Yes, the D300s would be better for what you're going to use it for.

do you refer the focus point in the view finder? or what? if youre refering to the 'manual' focus in the viewfinder, switch the focusing mode to Dynamic Mode.

What he said. The thing you should worry instead is the battery, cold weather tend to drain battery faster. Happens to me during my trip but not until the point where it'll drain so serious but then again, when i was there the temperature was around 15+ and lowest around 8-9c

70-200 VR2 is easier to handle compared to the 80-200, better weight distribution. Also better in all aspects except price tag biggrin.gif

D800 will replace the D700, I would say D700 will phase out. Its either D800 or D4.

RM6500!? Wow price have increased quite a bit. I know D700 price went up a little because SB900 drop price as the shops gets 1 D700 + 1 SB900 from Nikon each time.

Another battery cost RM189... Don't think my dad let.. Since it's just because of one trip lol.. I guess I'll just have to live with it..

BTW I don't get the plastic bag method.. Seal it in the plastic bag and leave it in the cold or warmth?

And then in cold do batteries run out faster or lose efficiency faster? Is it let's say I use until died already, I warm it up a little then it still can provide some juice?
