QUOTE(deadevil @ Mar 6 2013, 02:22 PM) That is correct. Everyone is busy. Now only played once a week or two weeks, also not consistant. Sometimes outstation, played darts more than table tennis. How have you been, deadevil? Next "national" level tournament will be the MSSM (not sure in KB or KT) and followed by the SUKMA games in July. Cheers. |

Hey guys. Elderly new member here with a story. Only recently i got took pingpong a little seriously and some lessons learned.
The history I started playing ping pong at the age of 7. My farther was a lecturer at one of our local university. Ping pong was one of the basic sport facility available in any university back then besides darts and takraw. That's how I started playing. It was just for sake of playing. Didn't take it seriously, wasn't good at it at all. We would just pick up what ever available bat, ball and just wack the life out of ourself. It was a blast It wasn't until later in my life when I was playing football that ping pong was a seasonal part of my life. I would play ping pong during off season to keep stamina in check. That was a blast also. All this was 30 years ago. The now... Just a couple of weeks ago I was asked by office mates if I can hit a ping pong ball. I told them that I can only barely play. I was never good at it from the beggining. Never did it cross my mind that it was actually a talent search to weed out player for the office team. There i was dead center in the middle of 6-10 other regular players, watching my every move and evaluating me. I was in my working attire with no bat or anything and best thing is I don't even know the rule of play. I just know how to hit the ball and I wasn't even good at it. Fast forward.. I made it in to the team. Sports is not a popular culture where I work. So getting in is not as hard as it sounds. But there was another problem. The team needed female players to qualify for the event and no one was interested. The good news is I had a couple of female interns and i told them that if they participate it would look on their report which I will be evaluating and write. Having 2 female solved our problem. The challenge now is to train them and myself to play, atleast to begginer level AND WE HAD ONE WEEK TO DO IT.....hahahaaa.... Well we did manage to train them. On the actual day, they did manage to hit the ball. Serve and score points on rare occasion. I suppose their unusual method of playing confused the opponent is the only logical explanation. I played men's double with a more experienced player. We lost both games female double and men's double. Thanks to me and my intern. Well as far as i'm concern "win as a team, loose as a team". Without the interns there wouldn't even be a game for us. Over all it was a blast. I was expecting to loose miserably. On my end I did learn a couple of things. First being during practice and during the actual game, I was borrowing ping pong bat from who ever. This didn't help at all. I was unfamiliar with the equipment and it was not tuned to me. I didn't have problems with recalling old skills, bad habits was the main issue. Since I played ping pong for fun before. We didn't put in effort and that habit really effected the over all performance. I think I will play ping pong on regular basis now to balance the amount of time I spend in the office. I bought a reasonable bat and thinking of what rubber to use. Not planning to go all the way. But this seems like a good past time. I have a couple of friends wanting to do the same. Just an office gig. This is new to me. I apologize if my writing sounds arrogant or over selling myself. I am a begginer and perhaps with a huge sack of luck. P/s : I'm thinking of getting a dawei 2008 xp rubber. But I don't know how thick and would it be ok to use same color on both sides. I usually do things to intermediate level. So something that could accommodate bigginer to intermediate is fine for me. I have stiga clipper pen. One of the players is using this, seem comfortable for me so i bought one.
