Ranking System for Lowyat Ranking Tourney.
This tournament will be two month once. (For people to train and prepare for next tournament two month can see alot of different if you train everyday)
This tournament ranking system will be as stated below:

Everyone join the Tournament for the first time will have a base ranking of 1000pts.
If you win a game you will get 10 pts. If you loose one game you will be deduct 5 points.

Example:
Player A & Player B. Game is best of 5 sets. Who ever get 3 sets will be the winner.

First Set
Player A win 11
Player B lost 8

Second Set
Player A lost 8
Player B win 11

Third Set
Player A lost 7
Player B win 11

Forth Set
Player A lost 12
Player B win 14

So the winner is player B. B player will gain 10 points. A player will lost 5 points.

So the calculation should be.

Player A base points 1000-5 = 995
Player B base points 1000+10 = 1010

This value will bring forward to next game. until the end of the Tournament. and the value will bring forward to the next tournament which is the month of June, August, Oct, December 2012

******************************************************
When we get a different list of 2000, 1500 or 1200 level of players. Lower level player can challenge higher level players anytime(Oct, December). if the lower level player win the higher level player they will gain 15 points. if the higher level player lost to lower level player they will lost 20 points.
if during the challenge The higher level player still win the game. The points will be still the same. 10 points for the winner and the lower level player will be deducted 5 points. Challenge can happen at any value. Example of 1035 player challenge a 1135 player. even a 1005 player can also challenge 1200 or 2000 player.

A challenge can only happen as long as there is more than 100 points ahead of the challenge player.

1200 vs 2000 proceed with the challenge request.
1035 vs 1135 proceed with the challenge request.
1035 vs 1085 not able to challenge

*If you won the game you cannot challenge the same player again and again. You can only challenge other higher ranking players. (Oct) you can challenge the same player again during (Dec) but also only once.
This is to prevent people to abuse this challenge system to gain ranking points.

I'd like to join, but seriously, WHY DURING PC FAIR WEEKEND?? No mood liao... sad.gif

And, is the point system copied directly from Yahoo! online games? brows.gif It's interesting, but I think it's better to either choose to have tourney WITHOUT the point system OR league style WITH point system, because the tourney seems to be just a one-time event with *limited* slots for participants; the league style will be something to the effect of monthly/bi-monthly gathering and points counted ONLY for games happened during the gathering time. Sounds more interesting (and reasonable) to me. Another question is the point rank: I propose the ranking system in tiers, eg. 1000 as base, >1199 as +1, >1399 as +2, >799 as -1 etc with point gain advantages challenging higher ranks. That way it's more organized.

Regarding venue, I noticed quite a few playing at SETTC on regular basis. It's a little far for me to reach, so personally, I prefer either Ling's place or Union.

Anyway, let me know if my suggestions make sense, and I look forward to the tourney NOT DURING PC FAIR WEEKEND. Thanks, and pardon my CAPS... blush.gif

Hmm.. the point system is just come out from my mind without referring to any point game system available in the net..Maybe coincidentally related.. not sure.

I will try get Union if we cannot make it to union then we will choose star elite as the place and it will be held during 15 April Sunday. You need to work during that day? PC fair...maybe you can join next tourney during June.

You can elaborate more on the ranking system of tiers that you mention. Maybe your idea is more suitable for our ranking system.

I kind of agree with kuntilanak that with the point system in place, a league style fits better than tournament style.

Meaning there are just a set number of rounds ('round robin'), so everyone that turns up knows they will play say 4 matches. This may be better because last time some people travelled to Viva only to get knocked out after 2 matches. This way everyone plays the same amount, and yeah, points are won and lost.

I just wanna 'lepak' at PC Fair. laugh.gif But Sunday... I always play at VIVA on Sundays... Not very keen on playing at Union. Been there twice with friend. 3 flights of stairs is a killer. tongue.gif And I heard that they utilize weekends for training/coaching sessions. Anyway, do let me know soon so I can make up my mind.

As for the point system, I was thinking that since the tourney has limited slots (for the time being, I suppose), and not everyone plays the same number of games, thus a little awkward. If it's league style, then it's like, let's say, 10 person showed up on a day, all challenge 'suka-sama-suka', then the score is written out on a board somewhere. Something to the effect of a club meet-up. Then there is the incentive for cross-rank matches, such as

Same rank = win/lose 10 points
Difference of 1 tier = win/lose 15/10 (for lower tier) and 10/15 (for higher tier)
Difference of 2 tiers = win/lose 20/10 (for lower tier) and 10/20 (for higher tier)
Difference of 3 tiers = win/lose 25/5 (for lower tier) and 5/25 (for higher tier)
etc...

It's just an example. And preferably no reset for points because it will be unfair to those that has earned their points through all their hard works.

Thanks for the support. smile.gif I'd prefer points for the league style and tourney as a separate event (no points involved). Or another way, we start of with league only and limit only certain ranks can take part in tourney for some massive point shift. Maybe unrealistic and complicated, but it'll feel more like playing RPG. Hehehe... Me play too many RPG... blush.gif

Hello all,

I also play ping pong but slowing down already (I mean the reflex la, the "main" still laju biggrin.gif).

Hello ladies,

I see some inquiries here about playing for fun. I can help finding places in KL area and also help in term of playing/stroke for fun. I have informally train woman player before.

Again this is not serious tranining or charge money training. But you guys do have to cover the table rent etc. Those who want serious training, I can introduce to sifu there. Personally I never seriously train also because for me PingPong is for fun. We stroke, we play game for point. Kalah menang we happy!

Just PM me.

For the guys,

I can take 1 or 2 more who want to play in subang SHT area, usually starting 6pm. We play weekdays and sometime on weekends. When to play usually decided randomly if we have the time. So "be on your feet" kind of arrangement and just come when sms is sent. No need to pay anything for the this. The Malay will say just come and bawak "teluq" only (and your favorite bat lah biggrin.gif).

Thanks and good day!

IMHO, firstly decide the venue - if many players feel that Union or SETTC or Ling's place is convenient, then that is the venue for LYN 2.0 game.

Next, league format or tournament format.
In view of the points accumulation and having the future games in mind, then a league format will be preferred. IMO, the pros (advantages) are everyone play the same number of games and can be measured against each other. This format will determine the players ranking. The cons (disadvantages) are all players involved must participate in all the games organised, whether in April or June etc. Else the ranking will not correspond to the participants as some may played in April & June, some April - August etc. or some may played in the month of April only.

Lowyat Table Tennis League Tourney April 2012

Those want to join just give me name and says " I want to join "

Venue: Star Elite Table Tennis

Cannot get to Union cause they only free during night time Saturday and Sunday.
We already tried in Uncle Ling place gold medal sports. Now we trying other places. So we select Star Elite. I am pretty sure lots of people never been to this place.

Number of table: 5 tables.
Date:15th April 2012 (Sunday)

Time: 8.30am to 10.30am or 11.30am

Official Ball Use: Butterfly 3 Star
Each game 5 sets. Whoever get 3 sets win. If 3~0 must stop the game already scared not enough time.

All rules follow official ITTF.

(Every one join will get base 1000 as base points. All 16 players can play round robin with each other) No elimination round for this tournament.) ~The more you play the higher ranks you can get.

*The ranking system is not same as ITTF format.
*No restriction of players. Even you are newbie, average player, district, state or national also can join.

For now we will set maximum player 16 people. Even if not enough 16 people we will still proceed with the game but bare in mind if less people maybe each of us need to fork out more for the table rental.

Table rental if not mistaken each table per hour at is rm 6 per hour. if three table for three hours. = RM54 (if we can finish earlier and if i get discount for the table rental I will add into the prizes section. Not sure how much is Star Elite I will try to get same price as before...

As for Star Elite table rental previously there are some people organize tournament there. They charge rm 200 for 2 tables for 3 hours. So if 5 tables it is going to be much more expensive. Is a little bit more expensive cause this place is much more wider and is air condition. Or you guys wants to walk in rm8 per person. RM 128

Rm 8 * 16 = RM 128

Still the same everyone fork out rm 10

Total = Rm 160
Provided if got 16 people each people fork out rm10

RM 160 -rm128 = rm 32

1st price RM 15 worth of table tennis goods
2nd price rm 10 worth of table tennis goods
3rd price rm 7 worth of table tennis goods

Or you guys don't want price and the price only be given during December.

As you can see the price is getting lesser and smaller.. if you guys want to contribute rm 15 we can set this for the next tournament.

*Prize giving for Dec month to three highest ranking points.

to be announce...

Difference of 1 rank = win/lose 15/10 (for lower tier) and 10/15 (for higher tier)

Difference of 4 rank = win/lose 30/5 (for lower tier) and 5/30 (for higher tier)
Between Subtier challenge will be plus minus 5 points

Example rank Novice 1000 fight with rank novice 1400
Notice they are in same rank but is in different subtiers so win or lose will be 10 points and additional 5 points will be awarded to winner and deduction of additional 5 points for the loser.

novice 1000 will get 10 points plus 5 points extra total will be 1015

Wow, you really copy every single word from my post. tongue.gif Thanks for the appreciation. biggrin.gif But I think you may need to elaborate further than 3-tier difference... Just saying...

On the note on point system, I'd like to suggest 2 more things:
1) Tier rank for each player will be based on the point they have at the beginning of the game day, not after each game. This is to ease up the calculation of point gain/lost.

2) Smaller tier gap, ie 1000, 1250, 1500 ect seems more logical. Imagine, in order to reach from novice to beginner, you need to win consecutively 50 games. And each day we can play, the most, say 5 different opponents, so it'll take 10 rounds/days to reach. rclxub.gif It'll take forever to reach the next tier, not to mention higher tiers, as others would most likely be lower then you. wink.gif

Hmmm, 8.30am for tourney? Seems too early for me. I'll pass then... sweat.gif

Cheers to K2002 again for hard work.

Let me say an unbiased review, for those that have never been to Star Elite, it is quite easy to find (easier than Uncle Lings for me), there is parking (street and nearby underground which is never full), 5 tables with some air-con. So overall, I think it is quite good happy.gif

Also I'm sure I speak for everyone when I hope that jim_jim can make it this time. Competition is the best way to improve even further right? smile.gif
