Thanks mate, great help you are!

Just interesting to know the difference between Unifi, for example, and ASTRO. Because when I subscribed to Unifi half a year ago, and moved after 3 months, I got all new modems, phone sets, boxes, etc etc. I asked if I didn't have to return the "old" ones or use the "old" ones in my new place, they simply said "no". So I guess these are mine to keep now? Interesting ...

Hi,

Jackdon

It can be bought from any computer shops but prices for different harddisks have increased a LOT because of floods in Thailand (december) last year.

It depends on which location you are staying. KL, PJ, Penang or Malacca ?

If KL, go to Low Yat Plaza, at No. 7 Jalan Bintang, Off Jalan Bukit Bintang, Bukit Bintang Central, Kuala Lumpur. Refer here.. http://plazalowyat.com/ Got many computer shops there such as Cycom Sales And Service, Viewnet Computer System, Thundermatch Technology, Compu-Zone. etc.

If, Petaling Jaya, go to Digital Mall at No. 2, Jalan 14/20 Section 14, 46100 Petaling Jaya, Selangor. Refer here... http://www.digitalmall.com.my. Also got many shops there such as Jayacom Information S/B, Thundermatch Technology, ALL-IT Hypermarket, etc.

For many years I often travel from Pahang to KL and usually go to Lowyat Plaza... don't have any special preference so I bought from a few shops there since about year 2000... when only a few shops opened at that time. Bought a few WD My Passport AV (320GB, 2.5 in) at RM 230 each in 2010 BUT price have increased a lot now so please check yourself.

You can also find people in this forum who sell it at ... http://forum.lowyat.net/Memory&Drives. Be careful if you choose online payment and postage. Of course there are many reliable and trustworthy sellers in this forum but a few have been known to be conmen. I have bought from a few "trusted" ones by postage but I cannot let you know who, so find out on your own. Don't blame me if you got cheated so its advisable to COD (personally meet seller and then pay after checking items).

Just saw announcement in Astro Beyond HD today 22-03-12,... AXN Beyond changes name to BeTV on 2nd April 2012. So AXN Beyond HD also to BeTV HD. I think someone here have previously mentioned about the "new" BeTV channel. Not "new", only name change.

I think they are afraid we don't believe if they choose 1st April because of "ah-hem fools day" so they picked 2nd April. Strange, isn't it ?

More info here... http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/lifestyle/03/08/12/axn-beyond-be-rebranded-betv

Here was what the vice president (communications, marketing and digital) of Sony Pictures Televisions Asia, said ... "BeTV will have the three Es: entertaining, engaging and easy viewing...It will be very different from AXN".

Mmm... "will be very different from AXN" ??? What ? Was he kidding everyone ?

Nay, just a statement for publicity only. He just talk stupid rubbish. Shows and programs still remain the same and the many repeats will still be there, hehe.

In my opinion, BeTV can be twisted to mean "Bullshit Entertainment TV". whistling.gif Sorry for the mildly foul language.

Same thing happened for Star Movies name changed over to Fox Movies Premium, and "maybe" the only change was more movies with Dolby Digital 5.1 surround audio. Using my Home Theatre audio system, some of such newer movies have good surround effects from rear to front speakers and good vocal placement in the centre speaker but not for those movies with only Dolby 2.0 surround using only 2 main speakers. I seem to feel that HBO HD show more upscaled from SD to HD quality movies when compared to Fox M.P. Of course the Astro HD channels Dolby Digital 2.0 or 5.1 audio is way way below the quality from blu-ray discs with lossless DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby True-HD audio (5.1 or 7.1 audio channels).

Maybe in future Astro change Wah Lai Toi to "Wo Bu Qan" in mandarin which means "I don't watch". Poking at Astro and joking only (只是开个玩笑).

I didn't subscribe to Sport Package as I am one of the few idiots who seldom watch daily sports events from BPL football, Golf, etc. However, I do go or stay in my sister's house to watch football World Cup (from 2nd round matches to final) and Olympics. I cannot possibly miss those.

I do remember that Astro completely telecast live for ALL events of the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games from Opening to Closing Ceremony using many interactive channels. All subscribers to Sports Package could watch these Beijing Games channels at NO extra charge !

I did not call Astro to enquire for clearer explanation. However, I do suspect that something is not right with Astro "Unmissable" promo to persuade people to subscribe to Sports Package and then "Add-On" EURO 2012 and London 2012 Olympic Games with one-time charge of RM 50.

Very fishy and maybe some trick to hook us to Sports Package. Look at my phone screenshots I took from HBO HD channel (pressed Red button on remote) ...
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

This "Unmissable Offer" include these 2 coming live events in 2012... UEFA EURO 2012 and the London 2012 Olympic Games.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

From the above image, subscribers to Astro Sports Pack do NOT have to pay additional charge. Ok, good, which "seem" to be as usual like before. But only "free add-on" before 01-04-12 ? What ?
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Now this image above is where I cannot really understand, maybe I am too stupid. It stated that this promo ends on 31-Mar-2012 ! I feel something is NOT right here.

Question 1
Ok, if I call and subscribe to Sports Pack before 01-04-12, that means I can watch all the sports channels AND including EURO 2012 and London 2012 Olympic Games ?? Extra "Add-On" charge of RM 50 will be refunded next year !

Question 2
No, I did not call and waited till after promo ends on 31-03-12 and then subscribe to Sports Pack on 02-04-2012. Yea, I can watch all the usual sports channels ... BUT this does NOT include EURO 2012 and London 2012 Olympic Games ? I have to pay extra (RM 50 ?) to watch these 2 said events ? If this is true, I do feel CHEATED since Beijing 2008 Olympic Games was included "free" in Sports Pack !

Question 3
What about those existing subscribers who already have Sports Pack, such as those who have this Pack already included in their SuperPack 3 ? Do existing Sport Pack subscribers need to "inform" Astro before 01-04-12 to watch these 2 events ? If they informed Astro before promo ends, then the "extra RM 50" charged will be refunded NEXT YEAR 2013 ?

What happens if any existing Sports Pack subscribers were ignorant and did not know about it until after the promo ends ? Even if such subscribers knew about the promo, maybe they did not bother to call or forgot to call or did not know that they must call Astro. Ok, if existing Sport Pack subscribers failed to contact Astro during promo period... then they will be charged RM 50 and cannot get a refund next year ?

What rubbish is Astro trying to do ? Too expensive to include in Sports Pack or want to suck subscribers for more fat profits ? Does it mean that Astro now says that the EURO 2012 and the London 2012 Olympic Games is "Add-On" and is NOT included in Sports Pack ?

Does it mean that people who already have Sports Pack must inform Astro before promo ends and if did not, then no RM 50 refund ?

What about those people who came in late as new Astro subscribers after 01-04-12 ? If anyone signed-in as new Astro subscriber on or after 01-04-12 and took the Sports Pack, did not know about it and found they cannot watch the 2 events... called Astro and was informed to pay extra RM 50 as "add-on" to Sports Pack (with no refund after promo period)... I can GUARANTEE that the unfortunate subscriber will SHOUT WHAT THE HELL ! And Astro may lose one more customer after the 1 year contract is over.

Of course I did not call Astro to seek clarification on this yet. But if I logically assumed corrrectly, then I can only say ..."This is ridiculous !"... for using very cunning and foxy method to try and "rob" subscribers of more money. I feel that Astro used vague and confusing tactics in their "Unmissable Promo" and maybe trying to fool us by not explaining clearly or in detail !

Can anyone in this forum please correct me if I am wrong anywhere or provide more clearer info ? Hehe... lazy to call Astro again... have called so many times in previous months lah.

I believe someone mentioned that they are gonna introduce the one off payment to enjoy the euro and olympics 2012 for those that does not subscribe to sports package... For those already subscribing, they would get it without any additional charges.

Meaning, RM50 will be charged to customers that does not subscribe to sports pack if they want to subscribe this "temporary sports package" that includes euro and olympics 2012 channels?

To clear up (or mess up more) about the situation reagrding Astro and EURO 2012 & also the Olympic Games 2012, I do remember a few months back when it was announced that Astro would be coming up with something new for these 2 sporting events..

The new option is for Astro subscribers who are not Sports package subscribers, BUT they wanted to watch the whole of Euro 2012 and the Olympic games, they do not need to sign up and subscribe to the sports package..they can just take up on the special offer where they would just need to pay to watch these 2 events..

it would be something like Astro Box Office Sports or something..

so what about the RM50 situation we have right now? Im guessing, and this is just a guess..anyone who is not a sports pack subscriber after 1 April 2012, those who want to subscribe to the sports pack, will have to pay RM50, and that amount will be refunded next January..

HOWEVER,

Those who do not want to subscribe to the sports pack but want to watch Euro 2012 or the Olympic games only, they can pay RM50..this amount will not be refunded to them since they are paying it as a one off..

I dont think this whole situation affects those who are already have the sports pack..whoever have sports pack now, will get to see both sporting events like usual unless they want to mess up their situation..

Thats my take..people will say Astro are making more profit..but u have to remember..last year..there were people who just subscribe to the sports pack for the World Cup and then unsubscribe..so I think this time, Astro wanna make sure they can 'Clear' profit if there are subscribers who wish to do the same thing again, they will have to fork out RM50..RM50 that Astro will definitely get..

Thats my take on this..if Im wrong then i appologise for my views smile.gif

Thanks for explaining.

If the one-time payment of RM 50 for "this special events pack" is for non Sports Pack subscribers, then why is Astro trying to "fool" us by stating this ...
"To subscribe to Astro Sports Pack, SMS ASTRO<space>Astro account..." ?

Refer to image in spoiler...
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Astro did NOT clearly state something like... "To subscribe to this Special Sports Event Mini Pack, SMS ASTRO...". Is Astro trying to fool us into subscribing to the normal Astro Sport Pack ? Remember that Assteruk will charge "service fee" of RM 10 when we decide to downgrade any packages or cancel Sport Pack after these 2 events are over !

A good question is the "refund" if I subscribe to the normal Sport Pack before 01-04-12. Astro did not mention anything about the "temporary sports package". Why refund ? I am not a Sport Pack subscriber so I have to subscribe to Sport Pack first in order to watch these 2 events ?

As clearly shown in my picture above, must I subscribe to Sport Pack first before 01-04-12 so that I get the RM 50 refund next year ? If I called late and subscribed to Sports Pack after 31-03-12, then Astro will charge me extra RM 50 with no refund in 2013 ? And have to pay "service fee" when I decide to cancel Sports Pack later when these 2 events are over ?

From your explanation, I understood that existing Sport Pack subscribers will be able to watch these 2 events, no extra charge of RM 50. The confusing part for me now is the non Sport Pack subscribers, like me, who wants to watch these 2 events.

This refund was mentioned by Pokemon...
"Assthrow is charging one time RM50 for those who add on Sport Package from 1st Apr and this amt will be refunded next year January. If you want to add on Sport Package, please do before 1st April"

I appreciate your feedback and thanks again. smile.gif

Why Astro advertised this promo using interactive screen only on HBO HD and mentioned Sport Pack only. Since I don't have Sports Pack, I don't know if advertised in those channels.

This promo is only 1 month and expires after 31-03-12 and these are 2 super events. For heavens sake, why did Astro only put so little publicity in only a single HBO HD ? And absolutely no info in Astro website. I used many different search words in google and found NOTHING on this Astro promo. If Astro wants to make money from this Special Pack for Non Sport Pack subscribers, why not put much more effort on publicity such as 30 second advertisements shown numerous times in many channels similar to "Pass The Popcorn: The Sequel" promo or Astro First ? Its ridiculous to have a promo with so little publicity and this promo is about to end too !

For me, I think I will just forget about calling Astro to find the full details, don't subscribe to Special Pack and save the RM 50 because Astro seem to have a "tak peduli, tidak apa" attitude in this 2 sport events promo. Little or no publicity from Astro, they don't care and I am not interested.

Where got a salesman who wants to sell something at offer price and still want customers to search, hunt and chase after that salesman to find out the offer price? Unless the salesman is selling medicine which can save my life !

The longer I think about it, I think I am not interested anymore so forget about calling Astro to find the actual details. Banyak kurang publisiti. Tak boleh mati kalau tak mengambil kesempatan untuk melanggan semasa promosi ini.

Finally, this matter is closed for me. Decided not to call Astro to enquire on this promo.

Note : I have sacked Marketing Directors before for poor preparations on many promotional campaigns. And its my personal opinion that the Astro Marketing Head should be called in for some serious talk to find out the reasons. I am not inside the management so I don't know the actual reasons for the poor effort on publicity for this promo.
