Hello, can you recommend me a water heater for around RM600-700? Would prefer one with rain shower and decent water pressure & heat. Sales person recommended me Alpha but I'm not really sold on the brand  confused.gif

I think if even a salesperson is unable to convince u, best thing for u to do is to read thru Shopee / Lazada reviews and ratings and make an educated decision on which brands u would trust based on what info u can gather from other buyers via those reviews. Here are some examples.

Malaysian brands:

- CENTON Atlantis Rainshower - https://s.shopee.com.my/10mMhaAAWH

- JOVEN SB11IP-RS Rainshower - https://s.shopee.com.my/g3yNfnYK0

- ALPHA Evo i Rainshower - https://s.shopee.com.my/6KiL8BTt4h

Japan brands:

- PANASONIC DH-3U (non-rainshower since Japanese rainshower models will definitely be over your budget) - https://s.shopee.com.my/A9v3hW7sxw

China brands:

- TOSHIBA Rainshower TWH-38EXPMY(G) Rainshower - https://s.shopee.com.my/8KTPVxomkf

Thank you so much for the reply! Really appreciate it!

Will look into these models, are Malaysia brands generally reliable? Or would it be wise for me to up my budget and get more reputable brands like Panasonic?

If the heating element no longer working yes. But mine more than 10 years.. Panasonic’s ancestor… National brand with the whale still working fine… shit it is 2024… more than 20 years.

Panasonic is good… push to start ones convenient and easy to use. No need to play around with the water valve every time to turn on.

Electrician tell me Toshiba is crap from China.. he install for me in my guest room. I bought it because it’s cheap. lol. He see it fail way more than Joven and Alpha our local brand..

Did SIRIM, Suruhanjaya Tenaga, or the water heater brands themselves said that? If no, then best to assume it is a no. If yes, do share the source / screenshot here.

Heard that TOSHIBA water heater division was bought over by MIDEA years ago, hence possibly using MIDEA's same strategy of low cost high volume game to gain market share and to kill other brands. Whether low cost translates to low quality I don't know, haven't use MIDEA nor TOSHIBA before. Both TOSHIBA and MIDEA are made in China.

Recently another China brand HAIER is trying to penetrate into Malaysia, heard that they are selling water heaters at even below their cost price since they are late in the game to compete with MIDEA. Crazy low price no doubt benefits us buyers, but hope that it's not an exchange with low quality and our safety.

For me I'll support Malaysian manufacturers (eg. CENTON, JOVEN, ALPHA) to benefit our own economy, good compromise between price and quality thumbup.gif

If u want stronger pump, get AC Pump as compared to DC Pump. Noisier, use more electricity, lesser warranty period, but slightly stronger than DC Pump. But instant water heaters' built-in pumps, regardless of whichever brands or AC / DC Pump, are still small, so don't have high expectation on the additional water pressure boost. Also, many brands like Panasonic. Joven, Midea, Toshiba (I think) are phasing or have phased out AC Pump. Lowest price instant water heaters with AC Pump should be Centon, like this one - Shopee / Lazada

But ultimately, getting an external booster pump like Grundfos will be the best choice, as u can use it to boost water pressure throughout the house, not just for shower, example here - Shopee. Downside is it is much more expensive, and with the higher water pressure generated, u might need a higher power rating instant water heater to generate enough hot water (higher water flow = lower output water temperature).
*
Are there still any options available if i just want a good water pump to be installed in my bathroom? The objective here is water pressure for shower.. heater is not that important actually, but if the water heater comes with a good pump then that's a plus. And I'm planning to replace the outlet with a better shower/rainshower set anyway like Sorento so basically I just need the water heater/pump device. Is this available anywhere? Looking at Joven or maybe open to Centon. Panasonic seems to be more expensive nowadays.

Grundfos or Tsunami water pumps are not an option for me because my house is an old house with old pipes (more than 20 years old) so after some consultation it seems that there will definitely be leaking issues later on, so I want to avoid that.

Edit: Found this water booster on shopee (https://my.shp.ee/1LzMMsm) and wondering if this is legit and safe for longtime use? Any experience with this and if any of you can share or have any advice moving forward?

Thanks!

To reemphasize again, don't expect high expectation on the additional water pressure boost from instant water heaters' built-in pumps, regardless of whichever brands or AC / DC Pump.

Do note that using standalone shower accessories that don't come together with the instant water heaters will usually cause the instant water heaters' warranty to be voided. I think mainly because standalone shower accessories bought from stores may usually have:
- larger nozzles (hence required to be paired with storage water heaters + powerful external booster pumps, which instant water heaters aren't powerful enough to support, in both heating capabilities and pump strength)
- Stainless steel hoses or any other conductive materials (which is against Suruhanjaya Tenaga's requirement for instant water heaters usage)
- Inlet joints usually facing inside the wall (instead of normal instant water heater rainshower's inlet joint which is from outside the wall, on the rainshower diverter)

Alternatively, if u want to use standalone shower accessories, get multipoint instant water heaters like this CENTON Forza (Shopee / Lazada) that doesn't come with a shower accessories, and meant for u to use it with standalone shower accessories. Much more powerful heating capability compared to normal instant water heaters (but still lose to storage water heaters), but it doesn't come with built-in pump and requires higher spec electrical component modification like 6mm electrical cables.

My suggestion is just to stick with the rainshower set that comes with the instant water heater, or spend much more to get the 'storage water heater / multipoint instant water heater + external booster pump + standalone shower accessories' package.

Doesn't look like it has SIRIM & Suruhanjaya Tenaga certification. Make sure that all home appliances you use, especially those that may kill u if malfunction, have these certifications. Don't cheap out in exchange for your own safety and your loved ones'.

Currently there are 2 types of storage water heater tank technology,

a. Enamel-coated technology - newer technology, better leak resistance, and cheaper. CENTON (example here - Shopee / Lazada) and ALPHA (example here - Shopee / Lazada) is using this technology.

b. Stainless-steel technology - old technology, more prone to leaking, and more expensive. JOVEN (example here - Shopee / Lazada) is using this technology.

I suggest u to go for CENTON. By far the best-selling and highest 5-star rated storage water heaters on Shopee, and cheapest amongst these 3 brands too.

If I'm not mistaken, most enamel-coated storage water heaters uses mild steel underneath the enamel-coating.

I believe u can conceal it anywhere as long as that area provides sufficient space, water pressure, and electrical component & wiring that caters to the storage water heater's minimum spec requirement.

But make sure to provide sufficient access opening (eg. manhole) for future maintenance, enough room for the storage water heater's dismantling process or servicing work, or else u will be charged for breaking and reinstalling of your concealed area (eg. plaster ceiling).

Potential costs involved are:
- Cutting and replacing plaster ceiling, or making a manhole (recommended for future servicing needs)
- Checking / replacing electrical wiring / components that have been worn off
- Removing old storage water heater
- Installing new storage water heater
- Connecting pipings

Costs vary according to what is needed. Sellers of storage water heaters should be able to recommend u installers, so do ask them for it. But don't expect it to be cheap. U should be spending bout RM400 to RM500+ on average.

Again, don't cheap out and find one installer that is priced super low, as they might not be qualified / certified to install, and u might end up with dangerous leaking (hot water) pipings, or worst electrical shock hazards.

Hi, anyone has experience with CENTON ECO SERENE water heaters? Would like to hear some feedbacks regarding this brand. And how to differentiate between ATLANTIS VS SERENE?
Thanks in advance.
