Hi everyone,

Long time lurker first time poster . I purchased a black N55 a few months ago and so far its been good to me. I have a few questions and I've been reading through this forum and I cannot find a definitive answer, 4versions is too many pages

First: I purchased this computer in China but I am from the states. The computer came defaulted in Chinese, but I had the tech guy change it to English. He managed to do it mostly...I say mostly because although all programs are English, when I start up/shut down the computer I still see Chinese text. Secondly, a lot of programs which I download/install default to Chinese. Is there a way I can permanently change my system settings to English...without a reformat (i am computer retarded ahah)

Secondly: which bios/driver should I update, I purchased my laptop in March.

Finally: my sonic master sub woofer stopped working suddenly after about 2 weeks, and yes I did push it in DEEPER . Reading a thread from before, a user mentioned he downloaded an updated driver which fixed the problem. Would that be the Realtek audio driver or is there a specific driver for the Sonic Master.

for the 2nd one.. not any recommendation for n55sf except (n45sf = v218).. can update it from asus website.. here
3rd.. try to uninstall and reinstall the atk package found in the driver cd or in c:/eSupports/edriver/software/asus/atkpackage.. else, both realtek and sonic master installer..

For the first:
Last time I met this problem too, my friend's lenovo come with chinese, but I forgot how I solve the problem already...
Maybe you can try this:
Navigate to Control Panel > Clock, Language, and Region > Region and Language > the last tab "administrative" > change the system locale.

But I also read some where said that if the Windows was installed with Chinese as default language, then you have to reinstall with English as default to solve that...

just download the win 7 from microsoft, it needs to be the same as the one you are using now, like if you have home premium then get the same one, but in english, burn it into bootable dvd and reformat the computer, use the existing serial number/ activation code for current windows you have.

for the sub woofer, did you happen to drop it before or like drag the wire when you move the laptop?

if you reinstall both the realtek audio and sonic master and still it is not working, then you should claim the warranty, asus have global warranty so i think it is no problem. But i am not sure where is the service center in the states...

1. IINM, Chinese version of Windows cannot be change to English version. You need to reformat the laptop.

2. Already answered by Soloinruids. Same answer from me. But I'm using BIOS V 223 instead.

3. Try reinstall Audio Driver (Realtek). The Sonic Master is included in the Realtek driver.

hi guys, is there any other way to check whether my intel turbo boost is working beside the gadget at the sidebar there? cause i notice the thing macam didnt show the extra blue bar when turbo boost kicks in anymore? dont tell me my turbo boost spoilt? o.0

How do I check which version N55 I have? There are two right? SL and SF? You guys also suggested that since I can only change the version on my computer from Chinese to English I need to reformat. Where can I get a copy of windows 7 ultimate downloaded and burned onto a disk, and where could I find my product key? Thanks!

search in system information.. start > search field.. type.."system information">system model..

how will the N56 full hd version perform for battlefield 3? if want high settings, what's the max resolution i can go?

I heard that a GTX660m can play smoothly on high settings, what about a GT650m on similar situation?

thanks! it shows turbo boost is enabled. phew~

GT650m is even better than GTX560m. So battlefield3 high settings shouldn't be a problem. Even GT555M can run on high still getting 30+fps

oh... i was mentioning the GTX660m
