Well, it actually depends on your preferences though....
but for me, what i concern more about is the layout and the switches...
For me, most important is the switches as you going to use it for-ever unless you want to buy new keyboard...
next is layout, i wonder why no one talks about layout here... for your information, the SS 6Gv2 the layout is not US ASCII, even though the layout is US, the enter key is "BIGASS" and the right shift is shorter.... and the SS 7G, the backspace is the short one.... which makes touch typing abit pain if you're already getting used to the normal US ASCII layout with long backspace, long enter and long right shift....
just my reminder to you when thinking of getting a keyboard... wink.gif
*
For me, i try to get a hardware programmable keyboard as I am trying to learn new layout(COLEMAK).

Feel like to get a RAPOO V7 and mod them into cherry switch, not sure if possible.

For others out there, you can always use AutoHotKey to remap the layout as you desire.

No, what i meant is the key sizes... and you're partly right about the programmable layout.... can be achieved using programming....

If you plan on experiment it on RAPOO V7, is it plate-mounted? If so, then it is more hassle as you need to desolder alot of parts before you can reach the switches....
*
For sure need to fully desolder all switch as the original switch on it isn't Cherry one at first. What I worry now is whether they actually having exactly same dimension and spots of pin or not. hmm.gif

Hmm, we not only need to find ppl who know well bout circuit but also programmer and also manufacturer. Lots of works to be done, hard to ensure any profit, LOL...

Best to try a featured mechanical numpad first?

Have you even tried a Tenkeyless/small keyboard and use it for long?
Not needing to reach as far as before, plus extra desk space, that's really nice.
Your Devlin keyboard don't count.
Time to buy the Cheongchuk 55g springs and put it on Vintage black switches. Add some PTFE lube to boot
Go Korean Krazy style with that. I'd bet it will be as smooth as butter and it wont be hard to actuate either.
It's a bummer I found out about the spring group buy at KBDMania after the group buy has closed.
*
Last time I am sourcing for Model M SSK but ended up gave up due to it's shipping weight and increasing price tag(+possibly need to mod them to fix any faulty)...
Yar, the Devlin is somehow too compact.
Hmm, whatever the spring is, make sure it is consistent for every one of them.

programmable? you will need to collect money and wait for China KBC group, they are planning something big on Macro features which uses Chameleon keyboard controllers which offers hardware based macro. which cannot be block by gameguard.

i waiting for that too. LOL
*
Even a chapalang keyboard like Rapoo V7 also using controller which support hardware level programming, so hope it won't be too pricy.

Maybe we need to come out with planning or CAD drawing first?

Added on November 29, 2011, 2:19 ambasically, i'm inspired by KMAC keyboard anyway, looking to do something like this,  Acrylic is quite cheap in Malaysia. Plus i know where to source for Aluminium plate.

planning something similar to this casing.

Nope bad, just that need lots and proper planning + some unique selling points of the keyboard.

Suggestion, separable keyboards such as those ergonomics one or made a poker alike + numpad bundle(can copy Dearmo/MS idea).

Might find limited market for them.
Seems like we have not reach the stage where not many people are willing to spend a lot of money on keyboards/customizing. Either that or they are all lurking around.
As to the keyboard, the PCB and Controller is not a really big issue compared with finding a case for it. Btw, I'm a metal/opaque plastic kinda guy. Don't dig transparent acrylics as cases.  tongue.gif
Considering the amount of Group Buys currently occurring, plus a KMAC being available for purchase soon, I heard that it is after new yeras, together with those coveted springs, I don't have any appetite for more custom stuff.

You should consider buying that brand new WYSE keyboard from Taobao. They have SP type doubleshot keys with Vintage Blacks. Pretty sweet for Rm200 shipped.
These springs are pretty coveted, but they are cheap. 1000won for a lot of them I think.
Sixty claimed that these are really smooth.

Shipping weight for SSK is about 2.3 - 2.5KG
It depends on luck as to what you would get. I've gotten a nice one, and also some cosmetic damaged ones. But my friend has got a cracked one. Try to order one at a time. 2 keyboards means they stack them on top of each other and you don't know what would happen. Plus when combine shipping, some Taobao forwards like to unpack for you, but charge you price for the full weight, that means less protection. I have been fortunate to find forwarders that do not do that.
*
SP style WYSE at below RM200? hmm.gif Mind post/pm the source?

BTW, most cherry doubleshots at taobao are used and thus require some sandblasting/papering to make it look better.

Should buy a Belkin PS/2 to USB adapter too(if your dad is using laptop).

BTW, here seems to be a good donor board for switch. At the back there write Made In Korea, LOL can check if Korea's QC is good(back then).

Sure, but make sure you clean the keycaps and wipe the case with some cleaning agent before handling them.
The sellers do clean them, but some do not.
WYSE "Shining" keyboard.
Worth it for the switches, as long as it is clean/not gritty I hope
*
Nope, the keyboard isn't a WYSE keyboard(afa the pictures tell).
BTW, to those who are hand itchy to get a full size model M, this seller seems not bad(To mod: I am not promoting any sale, just suggesting).
http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=9044233840
From the reviews(really lots), most of them say the keyboard is good and clean. Somemore, there are both the 3 variant(blue label, grey label and right side metallic label) available.

Think about getting some of them for fellow members here, untung some side income to cover up my shipping fee.

Who's in for one? local shipping i think is RM17.50, i use kangaroo, if your stuff is 3~4 KG.

can hantam everything in one go.(i dah jadi import agent)  biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif
Because my shipment is 1cubic meter, which is weight does not matter. My stuff aren't taking all the space, so there's extra space for you guys.

Since you got the budget, why not you order it locally? Think it will be better since got local warranty, you order from taobao anything you have to send back to China.
*
Agree. For something cost over 400-500, better to get one with reachable warranty.

If insist to get something from Taobao, you can try search for KBC poker, Zowie Celetias, PLU, Noppoo and so on which is brand normally seen on Taobao but extremely rare out of Taobao.

Lol bet you never climb up this topic before, so now let me tell you.

My first owned mechanical keyboard were Filco Majestouch AI-1 Blue (about RM500 + 104 blank key set), the one with gold emblem (now all comes with grey Filco emblem which sucks), but sadly the alt key decide to fails on me after 3-4 months of usage, so i send it back for warranty, it cost me RM200 to send them, i don't mind.

Then after that Edifier announced they will bring in the Filco Majestouch AI-2 Blue (grey Filco), i pre-ordered it, and cost me another RM400+.

Yesterday i just ordered 104 orange blank keys set from wasdkeyboards.com, price about RM230, so you do the calculations. tongue.gif

Once you've touched it, you will never turn back and will even grind deeper to it, sadly i'm not fancies of those Darth Vader (or any other logo) double shot keycaps, and its hard to source for 104 blank keys double shot keycaps, if they are exist, i will go for them for sure.
*
Hmm, why do you ever want a doubleshots blank keys?!!??! rclxub.gif For the sake of thicker keycaps? hmm.gif

Get a chapalang(or more famous brand like Logi/MS) wireless keyboard and steal their wireless adapter and processing unit.
You should be able to find a more detailed example in GH.

Yar, the best way to get a wireless mech keyboard is self built one. Getting processing unit and adapter from other board is the easier and better way to go. The remaining part is some wiring and mapping of matrix.
