Well, it actually depends on your preferences though....
but for me, what i concern more about is the layout and the switches...
For me, most important is the switches as you going to use it for-ever unless you want to buy new keyboard...
next is layout, i wonder why no one talks about layout here... for your information, the SS 6Gv2 the layout is not US ASCII, even though the layout is US, the enter key is "BIGASS" and the right shift is shorter.... and the SS 7G, the backspace is the short one.... which makes touch typing abit pain if you're already getting used to the normal US ASCII layout with long backspace, long enter and long right shift....
just my reminder to you when thinking of getting a keyboard...

No, what i meant is the key sizes... and you're partly right about the programmable layout.... can be achieved using programming....

If you plan on experiment it on RAPOO V7, is it plate-mounted? If so, then it is more hassle as you need to desolder alot of parts before you can reach the switches....

Have you even tried a Tenkeyless/small keyboard and use it for long?
Not needing to reach as far as before, plus extra desk space, that's really nice.

programmable? you will need to collect money and wait for China KBC group, they are planning something big on Macro features which uses Chameleon keyboard controllers which offers hardware based macro. which cannot be block by gameguard.

i waiting for that too. LOL

well.. i hope it won't be too pricey too, but the feature it offers really stands out. will plan to see in future.

Seems like we have not reach the stage where not many people are willing to spend a lot of money on keyboards/customizing. Either that or they are all lurking around.
As to the keyboard, the PCB and Controller is not a really big issue compared with finding a case for it. Btw, I'm a metal/opaque plastic kinda guy. Don't dig transparent acrylics as cases. 
Considering the amount of Group Buys currently occurring, plus a KMAC being available for purchase soon, I heard that it is after new yeras, together with those coveted springs, I don't have any appetite for more custom stuff.

You should consider buying that brand new WYSE keyboard from Taobao. They have SP type doubleshot keys with Vintage Blacks. Pretty sweet for Rm200 shipped.
These springs are pretty coveted, but they are cheap. 1000won for a lot of them I think.

It depends on luck as to what you would get. I've gotten a nice one, and also some cosmetic damaged ones. But my friend has got a cracked one. Try to order one at a time. 2 keyboards means they stack them on top of each other and you don't know what would happen. Plus when combine shipping, some Taobao forwards like to unpack for you, but charge you price for the full weight, that means less protection. I have been fortunate to find forwarders that do not do that.

Nope. The keyboard is unusable to most.
The Tank is mainly for keycap and switch harvesting.
A friend of mine have this and still finding a way to use it.
The connector ports are HUGE like printer connectors of the 90s

Since you got the budget, why not you order it locally? Think it will be better since got local warranty, you order from taobao anything you have to send back to China.

Lol bet you never climb up this topic before, so now let me tell you.

My first owned mechanical keyboard were Filco Majestouch AI-1 Blue (about RM500 + 104 blank key set), the one with gold emblem (now all comes with grey Filco emblem which sucks), but sadly the alt key decide to fails on me after 3-4 months of usage, so i send it back for warranty, it cost me RM200 to send them, i don't mind.

Then after that Edifier announced they will bring in the Filco Majestouch AI-2 Blue (grey Filco), i pre-ordered it, and cost me another RM400+.

Yesterday i just ordered 104 orange blank keys set from wasdkeyboards.com, price about RM230, so you do the calculations.

Once you've touched it, you will never turn back and will even grind deeper to it, sadly i'm not fancies of those Darth Vader (or any other logo) double shot keycaps, and its hard to source for 104 blank keys double shot keycaps, if they are exist, i will go for them for sure.
