I'm on smartassv2

There are threads telling what governing does. Basically it's the scaling of our CPU.

What I know is in smartassv2, it scales to a 200 - 500Mhz when screen is off. Which means profile enabling does nothing cause it already changes profiles automatically.

For ondemandx, didn't really try it cause smartassv2 gives very decent battery life already... plus the UV

maybe your batt is not properly place. try reinsert it and see if it happen again.

Hmm, myself sticking with Smartassv2 for the smoothness.

Also RC3 is giving me reboots during calls that did not happen during RC2, so rolled back. I'm guessing enter sleep at 500mhz (which was changed in RC3) is still a tad wonky.

A shame, because we still have bluetooth streaming while screen off issues with RC2. Oh well, at least everything is a lot better now compared to the pre ver 2 days, when things used to simply die on me without any possible cause.

many have mentioned the issue of sleeping at 500Mhz and the phone reboots cause some apps do take more than 500Mhz while the phone is idle/screen off...

However, i'm hard pressed to find any such app that takes the full CPU speed when the phone is in such a state. Probably also multiple applications could be running/syncing/updating which then MIGHT be the cause of the need for such CPU power.

However, I think even the default ondemand profile gives pretty decent battery life/performance already. I actually don't see much difference running smartassv2 and ondemand... after running maybe another week and if there isn't any difference, might switch back to ondemand

Thanks buddy for the info (reading it as i type this). Kinda understand some of them finally but now need to search for the comparison between these 3 interesting governors. according to most, still smartassv2 is great. wonder how it performs among these 3:

btw, im on siyah 2.1 rc3 using smartassv2. Using ondemandx for a day and lulzactive for a day on previous version and still feel smartassv2 is greater among them three

smartassv2 is too laggy for my adw launcher. lulzactive is laggy for some normal game. I am still on ondemandx the smoothest for me.

smartassV2 ramps slower and uses all cpu freq. No special sleep freq but ramps even slower in sleep

ondemandx screen on all cpu freq. screen off 100 - 500.

lulzactive screen on al cpu freq. screen off stick to min freq only meaning 100 - 100 or 200 - 200.

Also lulzactive seem to spread cpu on all clock from 500 to 1200 freq while ondemandx stick more to 500 - 800

I find smartassv2 very laggy in my ADW. set to 100-1200, no idea why it lags even when kinetic scrolling in the menu...

+ performance
The CPUfreq governor "performance" sets the CPU statically to the highest frequency within the borders of scaling_min_freq and scaling_max_freq.

+ powersave
The CPUfreq governor "powersave" sets the CPU statically to the lowest frequency within the borders of scaling_min_freq and scaling_max_freq.

+ userspace
The CPUfreq governor "userspace" allows the user, or any userspace program running with UID "root", to set the CPU to a specific frequency by making a sysfs file "scaling_setspeed" available in the CPU-device directory.

+ ondemand
The CPUfreq governor "ondemand" sets the CPU depending on the current usage. To do this the CPU must have the capability to switch the frequency very quickly. There are a number of sysfs file accessible parameters: sampling_rate, show_sampling_rate_min, up_threshold, ignore_nice_load, sampling_down_factor.

+ conservative
The CPUfreq governor "conservative", much like the "ondemand" governor, sets the CPU depending on the current usage. It differs in behaviour in that it gracefully increases and decreases the CPU speed rather than jumping to max speed the moment there is any load on the CPU. This behaviour more suitable in a battery powered environment. The governor is tweaked in the same manner as the "ondemand" governor through sysfs with the addition of: freq_step & down_threshold

+ interactive
The CPUfreq governor "interactive" is designed for latency-sensitive, interactive workloads. This governor sets the CPU speed depending on usage, similar to "ondemand" and "conservative" governors. However, the governor is more aggressive about scaling the CPU speed up in response to CPU-intensive activity. The tuneable value for this governor are: min_sample_time & go_maxspeed_load

The smartass governor is a complete rewrite of the interactive governor. CPU spends much more time at the lower frequencies for improved battery life. It gives the phone an automatic Screen Off profile, keeping speeds at a minimum when the phone is idle.

SavagedZen is a governor based on the Smartass governor. With tweaks to paramaters which control how much and how fast cpu ramps up/down. Main difference versus Smartass is that cpu ramps down not in fixed steps, but based on cpu load heuristics, i.e. when cpu load falls below threshold (min_cpu_load), cpu immediately ramps down to a frequency derived from the measured load.

+ interactiveX (By imoseyon@XDA)
Modified version of interactive with suspend code which locks at lowest clock speed when screen is off. Has a sleep+awake profile, meaning you don't need to set up manual profiles, it will lock at your minimum frequency during screen off

RC3 have not given me any SOD or reboot yet. People should try not to UV or reduce the UV as 500 is still experimental.

For sgs2, try either one of this.
Go to Settings-->Wireless and network --> USB utilities ---> connect your usb to ur pc then click the "Connect Storage to PC".

or

Settings --> Application --> Development --> "Untick" the USB Debugging.

I had the same problem like u as well for weeks! and couldn't believe it when i solve it by just a click >.<. it works for me until now


For Tablet 10.1, do the same thing. If ure MAC user, download ANDROIDTHIS and you are good to go as easy as ABC.

500 is still very much experimental it seems. IMHO, with bluetooth bug fixed RC2 is still the best RC to be pushed to stable, even with UV it's rock solid stable.

My UVs are VERY minimal anyhows, just to push heat down a notch.

I already know the general governers (Interactive, Powersave, Conservative, Ondemand) from my N900/810 days, but Brazilanwax, Smartassv2 I guess is a tad new for me.

Agree that RC2 is very stable. Only problem was the bluetooth. It can very well be a final version with the bluetooth fix. Great batt life also with RC2.

Please check the capacity your battery... Mine is 1500mAh. Shouldn't all SGSII have 16500mAh batteries?
