QUOTE(chuahcs79 @ Feb 29 2012, 11:21 PM) The reason I'm asking these questions is I found out that my wireless broadband actually runs slower when plug into a 3G wireless router. I can get >4Mbps when run it directly from my laptop but only ~3Mbps on the router. This makes me believe that 3G wireless router could slow us down if the firmware is not good enough. So, I'm considering MR3420 right now in order to get back the "original" speed and at the same time, wondering if I can get >7Mbps with this UMG1831 since my area is within U mobile 42Mbps coverage. I'm using Siera 885 right now which only supports up to 7.2Mbps. |

I also faced the same scenario when using stock firmware. The download speed is very slow when connected to router. After I changed to OpenWrt firmware, I get full speed like when connected directly to my notebook.

Bought MR3420 today but frequently fail to identify my Sierra 885.
Updated to latest firmware but didn't help. So, no choice have to use my MF190 for sharing my internet. However, i notice that the speed is slightly lower than directly plug the modem into laptop. May be have to flash OpenWrt firmware... After reading thru the instruction for OpenWrt firmware, i decided to stay with stock firmware This post has been edited by ks98: Mar 3 2012, 10:55 PM |

QUOTE(fat16 @ Mar 3 2012, 09:00 AM) Flashing OpenWrt firmware is very easy. But after flashing OpenWrt firmware, you need to do initial configuration. This is where your basic knowledge on linux in text-mode will be needed. This is summarized version on how to do the initial configuration:-QUOTE(kizwan @ Dec 18 2011, 10:37 PM)
QUOTE(kizwan @ Dec 21 2011, 02:58 AM) I use firmware "Web interface" (in "None" column), branch Trunk, under "*-factory.bin" table/release ( http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-mr3420 ). QUOTE(fat16 @ Mar 3 2012, 09:00 AM) I don't know. I only use LuCI & it only need minor configuration.

You should connect to 3g modem COM port using Putty or Hyperterminal. Follow the PDF file at first post.

Don't understand what you mean by full HSPA+, maxis offers HSPA+ up to 21mbps. And if you can hit that, it already means it reaches the theoretical max. What other 'full HSPA+' do you mean?
Because clearly the telco does support the speeds. |

What other 'full HSPA+' do you mean? Theoretically, HSPA+ supports up to 168Mbps of download speed and 22Mbps of upload speed. Because clearly the telco does support the speeds. For Maxis, even they're using the same technology but it supports only up to 21Mbps. |

Not sure if anyone has shared this before, but here goes:
http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php...ink-3420-router Apparently, someone from TP-Link provided a link for a tool called USB Sniffer to create the modem bin file for most modems that aren't able to detect on MR3420/MR3220. If you're into the technical stuff, I'm supposed this is worth to look into. One thing to note is that folks in the forum mentioned that the tool only works in WinXP. Good luck!
