The annoying thing about this router is that it can take very long to initialise a modem.

And if the signal is weak it takes even longer.

I don't have random disconnection anymore after I flashed to the latest firmware and using RAS (modem) now instead of NDIS. smile.gif

How do I select RAS instead of NDIS?

I am currently testing a huawei UMG1831
Okay, I try and see how to configure using dashboard.
I already forced the modem to be on UMTS2100 via MDMA.

But my office the 3G signal is weak so I can't test it out. Need to wait for tonight.

The UMG1831 signal reception is very weak, at my parents place cannot latch onto any 3G signal, and if can it's only 3%

Added on January 17, 2012, 8:43 amOkay, the modem is already on RAS, since yesterday, but even then last night when I was testing the reception was terrible.

And it kept disconnecting and the upload was only 500kb.

Yesterday I didn't force the bands, but today I have. I can't test it for very long because different location sad.gif

Tonight will test again.

Added on January 22, 2012, 5:48 pmI am experiencing some odd things with the router.
I am not sure if it's the channel width being the issue.

The router is currently set @
Channel 1
mix mode
auto channel width
300mbps transmission

For my own devices, SGS2 and my mom's laptop the wifi does not 'hang'.

But for ipad 1 and ipad 2, even though it shows connected, the wifi is 'stuck' and not seem to be transmitting.

When this happens, other devices that are connected can still work without issues.
Any one experiencing it? and if you did and managed to solve it, any setting change?

mf190 works

ss_izal, sometimes mine disconnects as well.
Maybe its due to weak signal.

I'll try placing the modem in another place over the weekend.

chuah, wifi wise I don't have disconnection problem.
Anyway I solved that issue.

Now the issue is that the modem will disconnect itself after some time, maybe its the cell tower. But it happens at 2 different sites.

@chuah, the ipad doesn't seem to play nice with hidden SSID. I changed to non-hidden SSID and now its okay. Sigh. But it worked okay when I was using the TPlink ADSL router with hidden SSID. With the MR3420 got problem.

And its not the channel, because on channel 1 there is no interference in my area. Anyway I went other ways to configure the router to prevent unauthorised access.

Yes, on 2 sites, maxis disconnects a few times a day. At one site the reception is ~67% (e173), another it's 45% (Icon505).

When connected, no issues with speed, ping etc. But intermittent disconnections causing video streaming problems. It's been happening since I first deployed the icon 505.

Have you read the manual? Inside should write.

Added on January 28, 2012, 4:21 pmYou can download from TPlink website.
Reach 200mbits, maybe, totally depends on the signal strength.

Added on January 28, 2012, 11:13 pmActually how far is your neighbour?
Maybe just run a long RJ45 cable is better :S

I set up WDS using tplink routers before, cannot do WPA security. Not sure about now though. It was only WEP.

Do you have the modem right now?
Why don't u contact someone in the forum, see if u can meet up and test the modem.

I can't really tell you for sure if the HSPA+ modem can be detected and recognised.

QUOTE
after you connect Samsung Omnia to PC, on your mobile device go to START->PROGRAMS->INTERNET SHARING and select the connection type (bluetooth or USB - most commonly used would be USB); tap "Connect". Your Samsung Omnia will connect to the mobile network if you have set up a profile for GPRS/HSDPA according to your billing plan provided by the network operator.

Did you try internet sharing via USB on your phone?

Try and see if a USB to ethernet adapter works.
You can alternatively connect the phone then share it via USB, connect it to the WAN ethernet port.

Added on January 31, 2012, 6:40 amWell, some nokia phones also can work purely as modem.
Not exactly sure why the omnia can't

Read the manual to port forward, it is not dependent on your ISP but the router.

I use channel depending on whether other people are around me using specific channels.

I use android wifi analyzer to identify if there are any interfering channels in my area.

Then set mine accordingly.

impossible to get full speed, as current non of the telco ISP provider provider FULL HSPA+ yet,..  hmm.gif

You're wrong.
I got 21mbps from 1831 when I had it for a week.
But it was unstable cause of bad firmware.

Bought MR3420 today but frequently fail to identify my Sierra 885.

Updated to latest firmware but didn't help.

So, no choice have to use my MF190 for sharing my internet. However, i notice that the speed is slightly lower than directly plug the modem into laptop.

May be have to flash OpenWrt firmware...

After reading thru the instruction for OpenWrt firmware, i decided to stay with stock firmware smile.gif The steps sound too complex...

Check if the 3420 has a modem file for the sierra 885.

Don't understand what you mean by full HSPA+, maxis offers HSPA+ up to 21mbps. And if you can hit that, it already means it reaches the theoretical max. What other 'full HSPA+' do you mean?
Because clearly the telco does support the speeds.

UMG1831 takes v long to initiate the modem from my experience.
Maybe you need to add in the modem bin file.
