I have few questions regarding to this PRS,

1. How to calculate the "first 10 years tax relief" ? its start on since 2012, or the year that we start invest in the PRS ?

2. in what condition, we are able to withdraw all the amount in PRS? except for the account B 30% withdrawal with 8% penalty.

3. Is it really worth the RM3000 tax relief annually to invest on the PRS? what do u guys personally think of this?

4. Is there any PRS that can allow us to set our own duration of the investment?
for example like 10 years or 20 years later able to withdraw full amount .
*
1. From the year you invested. Valid for Rm3k tax relief (helps to bring down your tax bracket) only. Which means if you put in RM3k into any PRS 2017, you can claim RM3k tax relief in March 2018 (income tax month). If you put in RM4k in 2017, come March 2018, you can claim only RM4k.

2. You can withdraw all out if you give up your citizenship or reach 55 years old. biggrin.gif No penalty on that.

3. For me is worth. Why?
i) govt give you way to pay less tax, you don't want?
ii) money put into PRS is still your own money and can be withdraw in full once reach 55 years old. Money paid as tax is not your money anymore tongue.gif
iii) But money lock up leh... Mana bagus? That's why must choose good fund which
- able to beat inflation
- able to beat bank promo FD rates
- able to beat Amanah saham/EPF
Every sen saves from paying less tax = money available for investing

4) Nope. One way ticket for as long as tax relief is there. If no more tax relief, won't contribute. Hehehe...

1. It is start to calculate from 2012, the year when PRS was introduced but as long as the investment in PRS is still small, we are confident that the government will continue the rebate beyond 2021.

2. Upon retirement age 55 or migrate to other countries.

3. Yes if your tax bracket falls in the upper bracket (more than 10%). Else you better off with other investments.

4. No. You are looking more at saving plans from insurance companies for this kind of package and usually the ROI is only mediocre.

IMHO
*
3. Not if you can get can get an investment which give you average 10%p.a and let you pay less tax.

4. Agreed. Worst than or same as board rates FD.

so u ppl, gain or loss from PRS at the moment.?
*
Of course gain la.
- Fund return about 7% already in less than 1 year.
- Free RM1k from govt
- Decrease amount of tax I pay

That's why cannot simply choose any fund so that one pay less tax. Fund choose must be able to beat EPF RETURNS.

what month was it credited to your account?

Govt do one time payout either
"The incentive will be credited on bi-annual basis and PPA expects to receive and process the pay-out within 4 months from the cut off date of 30th June and 31st December each year."

Thats why lor.. the 70% risk... I weighted the risk vs reward and op to give it a miss.

SSPN different.. that one put in 1 month get 25% returns.... confirm good deal.

EPF no choice, not voluntary...
*
Just put max Rm3k la. Why want to pay more tax unless you don't mind paying taxes.

Better I put into PRS and pay less tax than don't put PRS and pay more tax. tongue.gif

QUOTE(nicklim17 @ Mar 7 2018, 01:27 PM)
hi,

would like to know the next cycle of government youth incentive credit into account.

put in 1k on September 2017.

thanks

quote from forumer MUM as below means april only will get?

"When will get the incentive from government?"
from previous postings by forummers....the cut off date is end June and Dec......then 4 months after the cut off date you will be informed and yr a/c will be updated. Btw, the RM1,000 incentive will be utilized to purchase units which will be created in sub-account A of the PRS fund.
"And to qualify for next year youth incentive again, I need to top up 1k after 1/1/18?"
The incentive is a one-off incentive which will only be received once for the entire program between 2014 to 2018 and not once every year.

for more info of this PRS things...try this FAQs
https://www.ppa.my/prs-youth/prs-youth-faqs/
http://www.publicmutual.com.my/prs/PRSYouth.aspx
https://www.fundsupermart.com.my/main/resea...ve-RM1,000-4558
*
You can only get it once. Keep in mind there's allocation of RM160m

Anything difference all the PRS provider in terms of charges and performance? Any recommendation for the best PRS around among the providers?

Got. Never buy based on PRS provider. Always buy based on fund manager skills and your risk tolerance.

Would it make any difference if I put one lum sum of rm3k instead of monthly rm250 into prs? What are the advantages and disadvantages?
*
Difference is timing. If you put in lump sum of RM3k and market tank, your whole RM3k affected. By spreading out your RM3k into smaller pieces, you sort of get the average price biggrin.gif

But then still it is DCA method, different is DCA monthly or DCA yearly right?

since is to keep the $ roll until age 56, will have huge different?
*
Could also be vca, pump in when market down. Hold when market goes up.

Yes could make difference. Read one article about example of investing in STI at different time line. Both gave different returns.

cimb prs memang no dividend one... so if the price drop, then thats it.
i always tell my friends that the prs not necessary profit at the end as the price might go down
*
You do know dividend in unit trust is just marketing gimmick right? It does nothing. Left pocket exit, enter right pocket.

QUOTE(mephyll @ Apr 25 2018, 11:09 AM)
Since no dividend, any advise how to "lock" the profit? it is damn long term investment.
*
Have 2 PRS. One bond fund one equities. When you think hell gonna break lose, switch over to bond fund before it happens. Another alternative is buy more when market is red. Also it's until 2021, if after that no more tax releif, no need to pay attention to PRS anymore biggrin.gif

I understood dividened is market gimmick, left hand to right hand. just wonder says our normal DIY portfolio, i will switch those profit to lover profit fund, while PRS i wonder how do i lock fund.

Ramjade, you mentioned about: Have 2 PRS. One bond fund one equities.
means to buy 2 types of funds, Equity & Bond fund, so do switching among this 2 to "lock" profit ya?
that so, need to buy from same fund house right? eg: CIMB
*
That I don't know as I never experiment. After all my allocation inside PRS is very small. Not worth for me to try it out and as I mentioned PRS tax incentive is until 2021 which is only 3 years away. 1 year RM3k, 3 more years =RM9k only. So if no more tax incentive, then I just close my eye and don't look at it. If they continue the tax incentive, maybe I will think best way to protect my money biggrin.gif

But yes, that's one way of protecting your money. Find the lowest volatility bond fund and put it inside there.

thanks for your explanation and valuable input.  most of us invest in PRS is just for sake of tax relief only + RM1k incentive for age 20 to 30.
i started last year, bought 1 PRS fund, never know until today morning in FSM tread mentioned about we are allow to buy few PRS funds with only RM8.48 per PPA account (all the while i misunderstand RM8.48 apply to per fund). thus may change my plan to buy other fund to diversify it. RM3k still alot for me.  biggrin.gif
*
It's RM 8.48 per PRS provider. If you have 2, then it's 2x RM 8.48. If you have 3, then it's 3x RM 8.48. As long as you topup. If you don't topup, you won't get charged.

i started get confused. i just read through FSM FAQ (attached), and yes 2 answers as mentioned above pop out in my mind + from LYN.

may later i try to search in PPA website.
*
It's RM8.48/fund. That's why you see me with only one fund as I don't believe in paying extra money unnecessarily.

Anyone received their incentive from government yet for PRS investment in 2017? I sent my enquiry to the PPA website feedback form, and the reply I got is that I will see my incentive in May this year.

I thought it should be done in January. Although the four months delay won't affect that much since this is a low risk and low return fund, but still, time frame is essential in every investment.
*
Yes got my payout. Incentive is one time and pay off in either 2 dates of the year. Depending on when you buy your funds.

Top up available, while there are admin charge per transaction. RM0.53.

Will you utilize this function or back to your agent to top up?
*
No. Will buy using FSM or eUT FPX. Free of charge. Why pay RM0.53 when you can pay RM0? biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

would like to know if Public Mutual they charge 5% on this PRS  fund too? (just for my extra knowledge)

Don't know. But I avoid public mutual like a plague as their funds are usually not performing.
