Can help me understand why Hilux sells so well in Malaysia ?

Jan-Aug2011 units sold

Hilux 15049
Triton 5699
D-Max 3899
Navara 2831
Ranger 1511

Also, anyone has the breakdown of the figures above by state ? e.g. how many sold in Sabah, Sarawak.

I am thinking buying a single cabin hilux 2.5 for my plantation site job , but the engine power is low compare with other brand. . so my question is, can i put an intercooler to boost up the cooling and power. Or any other option i can take to pull more hp and tq from this hilux.

Tuning chip is your solution if u want to maintain factory warranty and also increase 10~20% power.

If you're going hardcore power then only consider upgrading hardware.

Why top mount?? Most of the member i know prefer to make it the bumper style.

Easier and less mess, not to mention more air flow. biggrin.gif

some of my friend say there will be some turbo lag if the tubing too long, although there are more cooling compare with top mount. maybe if got found a VNT garrett turbo then i will do front mount with Bov . But for now my solution is to add fan below the intercooler. All that have to wait my car arrive next year lah...aduh..

For the 2.5, after u installed the Intercooler, you will notice turbo lag instantly. Had a few member doing that, but then they're ok with that with the help of tuning chip which gives responsive throttle and power, not to mention turbo kicks in smoother and faster too.

Piping wise, too big is not good, too small is real bad. tongue.gif

Fan below the intercooler is not necessary i guess? Most of the people fit their BOV right before the throttle body, so far only HKS SSQV3D/SSQV4D performs the best. Better get a genuine ones wink.gif

(Which require to tap wires from the solenoid to the TPS sensor, this type of BOV is activated through TPS)

Besides, there are some fake HKS SSQV3D/4D around which are using fake HKS bov and some china/taiwan made solenoid valve.

VNT to fit on the 2.5? Good luck. biggrin.gif

Thais 2kdftv is fitted with vnt producing 142hp so it is doable. Any suggestion on where to get vnt turbo or which company made it?

I am not saying it's impossible. Why VNT when you can better turbo option? What you need is not a turbo only. Cant think of any, try sourcing them in Thai?

Yup, they do have for the VP44. but not plug and play and require some wires cutting & tapping.
Can boost higher fot sure, but the question is, can your engine make it out?

I suppose there are some stocks shortage from Thai.

QUOTE
Toyota Australia, which sources all of its top-selling HiLux utes from Thailand, said the situation for Australia is currently being reviewed.

“There has been no HiLux production since October 24,” said Toyota Australia spokesman Mike Breen.

“Production will be reassessed on November 7. At this stage the damage situation to our suppliers is still under review (and) ongoing assessments and countermeasure activities are being undertaken by Toyota Motor Thailand.”

Hi guys. Just wanted to ask about this chip tuning. What is it actually? Won't void the Toyota warranty even if the car is newly bought? What are the gains (e.g. HP, torque, fuel consumption).

Another thing, if I plan to get the new 3.0 Hilux would tuning the chip add any improvements to the car seeing as it already has an intercooler built in?

Thanks.

These chip increase more torque than hp. you will be expecting close to 40NM, 15~20hp of torque/hp increase.
Any chip will void the warranty unless you remove them before sending back to service centre. Plenty of my customer practicing this method to maintain their warranty. Tuning chip doesn't leave trace on your ECU, so they can't really find anything to void your warranty.

Sold so many units, non of them telling me it doesn't work !! Only complain i got is, how to get more power after chipped. rolleyes.gif

RM 11000++ to RM12500++ for ori part from 2.5 vnt and 3.0 vnt thailand. It consist of manifold, ECU, Driver Box for Vnt turbo solenoid motor, Vgt, ori intercooler with piping. By the way, my SIngle cab LUX already arrive last month. Now let it park at home first- plan to UnICHIP it, install sport rim -wide tyre , canceled my plan to install inter-cooler. Anyway i will be booking the new ford soon .

if you want manual then you should get the 2.5vnt and if you cancel booking probably you will have to wait longer.

Hi all..

I'm deeply into Hilux 2.5 manual and currently still thinking should I buy a used one, because I loved the 2006-2010 edition of this amazing vehicle..

I would like to ask you guys about Hilux's 2.5's Malaysian roadtax and insurance costs per year, and, which year's edition is the best one, excluding the new one since I don't fond on that new facelift look..

I hope someone would reply me since I really2 wanted to buy one in this near future..

Thank you.. smile.gif

ROAD TAX per year:

2.5 Diesel around RM800

3.0 Diesel around RM1600

INSURANCE

Depends on value of vehicle. A rough gauge is as follows:

Car Value: RM80k, Premium around RM 2,400
Car Value: RM70k, Premium around RM 2,100
Car Value: RM60k, Premium around RM 1,850
Car Value: RM50k, Premium around RM 1,600

This is just estimated based on Comprehensive (1st and 3rd Party), Engine 2.2 to 3.0, Peninsular Malaysia, Private use, and NOT inclusive of any Loading so pls dont sue me if not accurate.

Less: No Claim Bonus (NCB) Discount if you have.

For more info, ask ur agent. Just bear in mind that you can go for any insurance company so not necessary the one that your salesman recommend. Some insurance companies give FREE AAM auto assist if you sign with them. Only drawback for Hilux is that many insurance companies don't accept due to high theft rate coupled with the fact that they cannot, by law, simply impose Loading.

Happy hunting.

Great car to have. alot of options, to go rugged or VIP style. easy to get solid replacement parts. best thing is the resale value. most probably wont sell mine.

i just overhauled my 2005 vigo,,it cost me rm15000...been using this car for 7 years now,..only had a problem once, clutch slip..one thing i don't like about this car is the spiral cable, change it three times already in 7 years..recently just installed intercooler,I.H.I turbo (aftermarket isuzu dmax turbo)n alpha tech chip all in for rm8500,,great pick up,i can even do a burnout now but haven't tested how fast can it go now, hope it can speed up to 170km/h like it used to when it was still stock new,,quiet stabil when speeding on cornering roads..,,i'm not sure bout u guys but i can travel 700km with full tank but that was before the modification, now full tank can only get me less than 600 km.but overall,i love my hilux..its a great ride..

kind of deterring me from getting 3.0, especially double road tax. sweat.gif

Ya 3.0 fc is around that la, 10-11++km/l. But since i doin everyday work wif my vigo 3.0 carrying heavy loads, not too much lar, around 200-350kg a day, except sunday, the meter show 9.9km/l. daily trip roughly around 50-60km. 1 week 1 full tank cun. 1 full tank if according to digital meter can go 659km. So far i drive full tank 7-8 days then refuel again. I got my vigo 3.0 end of march 2012, now mileage already 25K.. LOL.. Even do carrying heavy load like 300kg d vigo still can climb up 120kmh quite easy. I know 1 good tips people said, if u wanna hv good fc using vigo 3.0, jz maintain rpm2000 or below during top gear, which mean average speed 90-100kmh. Rpm2000=100kmh top gear.

You can look into:

A. Theft Prevention
1. Pedal Lock
2. Steering Lock
3. Gear Shift Lock
4. Additional Immobilizer

B. Vehicle Recovery
1. Cobra (TTDI) or Captor (Batu Caves) where they install a GPS tracker into your vehicle, and track for you when you report lost. You pay 'one-time' GPS system + installation cost, thereafter an annual service fee for the life of the vehicle.
2. After market GPS Tracker, where you pay 'one-time' GPS system + installation, but provide installer a SIM card. Your monthly cost will be the cost of SIM Card telco plan only, but you track your vehicle yourself via your cell phone. If its stolen, you have to call the cops and track the vehicle yourself. Many brands available in Automotive Garage section.

C. Carjacking
1. Go jogging every day so that if this should happen, you can run away from your assailants as far and fast as possible, with your mobile so you can track. If you are taken along with your vehicle, agree to surrender your car and your phone, pray hard, shut up and hope for the best.

Happy hunting, good luck, drive safe, stay safe.

-----
For the paranoid, some additional things to consider:

1. Park in well lit and open areas, not some dark corner of the world.
2. Add Anti-smash tint on the windows.
3. Be observant when filling up at gas stations. Don't leave keys in ignition.
4. When taking passengers (wife, parents, kids), be aware that they may be the ones who may be taken, so keep doors locked whenever possible.
5. Don't disclose your security features to the world. Keep this to yourself.
6. If you are knocked by third party, observe first who knocked into your vehicle. If you don't feel comfortable, stay a distance when negotiating, or just take a photo of the third party's vehicle and leave the scene asap.

You can google more safety tips from various sites for more of info. While you want to prevent your vehicle from being taken, bear in mind that if shit hits the fan, the priority is your personal safety, as well as the safety of those who ride with you.

*
Wow, that is not too bad for a 3.0 vigo. rclxms.gif
I also usually drive 80km/h at RPM 1.5k biggrin.gif

chip tuning usually give or claim fc advantage at lower rpm(below 2000rpm) in addition of increasing hp and torque.
higher rpm means high fc,low rpm low fc.

Been using my hilux 3.0 vnt for 3 months plus...generally satisfied with the performance
The car is only for family use & when i have fishing trip
Modification: only replace rear leaf spring shackle to reduce bumpiness & add sports bar
But i noticed some rusty part beneath the hilux, is it normal for hilux?

Hi, My Hilux has suddenly developed problems after running smoothly for 6 years. It appears to be the fuel pump. The vehicle loses power and sometimes it appears to almost die and them move again. This morning, it became worse. The engine become so weak that I stalled on a slope. Simply not enough power to climb the ramp. I finally reversed down the ramp. The engine then died completely. A while later it started again. But I suspect strongly that it is the fuel pump. My questions: Can the fuel pump be serviced? Where is the best place to do that? ANy recommendations and advice? Thank you so much for your help, everyone.

yes you can install intercooler and overboost it,but the original turbo cannot handle boost over 18psi.

currently the best tuning chip is Unichip.

the best liftkit currently is by BTV.

cant handle over 18psi???? what it mean? it is useless to add a intercooler.....
BTV is damn expensive.....it is possible to just the suspension or absorber to lift up the car brows.gif

intercooler help cooling, better cooling better combustion, more power.

just dont boost above 18psi original boost is 7psi i think.

normal lift will cost you above 2k absorber and spring.

Hi. I just got my new hilux and noticed that there is a little click sound from in the dash when the aircon is on. It sounds like a relay and is the same click sound you hear when the aircon is turned on. Happens every 10 or so seconds depending. Not loud just a little annoying. Just want to know if anyone experiencing the same thing or if it's a fault.

I'm also facing the same with the clicking sound. Got my hilux a month ago and immediately install lockteck under the steering. Since the lock have a wire connection, I thought may be because the improper wiring by the installer. Since your car also have clicking sound, I think it may be a common.

can do nothing about it other than absorber change, find one that can be adjusted and you probably need to remove one leaf spring so that it become softer.

'Bumpy' depends on your experience prior to owing a Hilux. If you don't have much load most times, then just change absorbers. I changed my rears to Rancho 9000XL (adjustable) and it rides well on minimum load, now thinking of Bilstein for front cos want to lift a bit.

You see, every truck is 'purpose-built' and 'market-driven'. The Hilux was designed as a carrier with the ability to penetrate the world's toughest terrains. That's why they are high and firm. On the other hand, Tritons and Rangers are for ladies who ferry their grandma to Tesco every weekend. That's why they are lower and softer.

Hi guys...My 3 weeks old Hilux stolen last week at Glenmarie Shah Alam...so sad...just parked outside the shop for 15 minutes, then it's gone. Just normal alarm locked. I dont have any steering and gear lock yet.

Just a question, I'm using MSIG as my insurance, can I get 100% claim. I checked already, my sum insured is 96k. I dont even started paying my first installment.

I'm sorry for the loss. Hilux is hot on the theft list. Always recommended to install steering lock/brake lock whenever possible, as soon as possible.
If Hilux stolen within 3 months can claim 100%. But between now until your insurance company compensate for the loss, you still have to pay for the installment.

Some say installing double shackle helps to reduce the bumpiness of your ride. I'm not sure but I plan to install soon.

I heard from some 4x4 dealers not recommended to install double shackles. Also need to maintain the double shackle. Mayb u can opt for changing the suspension to Rancho 9000

Oh btw, I recently changed my Tires from H/T (Dueler Bridestone) to A/T tires (Yokohama Geolander). I went to the 4x4 shop and the guy gave me a good deal for 16 inch tires. So not only did i changed my tires from H/T to A/T, i also changed a different rim. But he told me that the spare tires dun need to change so i kept my spare tire without changing it.

Originally my tires were 255/70R15 but now it is 265/70R16

I want to ask,

1. What is the difference i will feel from this change?
2. Is it ok to not change the spare tires, or suggested to change the spare tire as well?
3. Do i need to take note of any changes from the new tires?

Thx in advance

1.
HT(highway terrain) softer ride
AT(all terrain) a little bit harder
MT(mud terrain) the hardest

2.
spare tire is just used to get you to a tires shop no need to change it.

3.
did you do any alignment after changing tires?some shop offer tire change and alignment for free.

I read some discussions about Double-Shackles on the Hilux some time back when I was considering suspension mod. I can't remember the list of sites, but the conclusion I got from the forums is that it is NOT Safe. My 2 cents, ....Google it a bit before you go and install the double-shackle.

1. Difference is You will feel a bit more Macho brows.gif Maybe a little more noise, but not much other difference. Geolander is a popular AT tyre, much like Bridgestone's Dueler AT.

2. Better to match your new set, just get some second hand ones will do. Your previous Overall Wheel Diameter is around 29 inches while your new ones are around 30.5inches. One thing for sure, speedometer will be 'off'. Check with a GPS on board and you should be able to gauge your actual speed against your speedo.

3. No need take note la, just drive. Minimal change in size so I don't think tyre will scrape mud guard (assuming your rim offset is not too drastic la).

Happy driving

I went and talk to the 4x4 dealer he told me even though i want to change the spare tire to 16 inch also cant, bcos the bottom part of the hilux cant fit the 16 inch spare tire unless i want to put it in the trunk.
I had to cut the front tire mud guard if not it will scrape the mudguard. Also had to do some rebalancing and add wheel ring as my steering wheel had some vibrations when car drive around 100km/h

Be careful with double shackles, can b dangerous when off-roading, especially on downhills if it unloads.

1. Cut Horn is to disable Horn from sounding, in case you have alarm attached to it.

2. Upper Left Side tyre (mudguard) is to pierce thru the cobra alarm box located just above it. If you open your bonnet, you will see a steel box there, that's where the alarm system resides. In older Altis, the box is located near the fuel tank cover, so to destroy the alarm, they just have to drill thru it. One small hole only, and the alarm is a goner.

3. Signal light is an old method. They pull it out because it's the easiest to pry, and then short circuit the electrical system thru the signal connection.

Well, at least your truck not stolen.

Hi,

Welcome to the club! To answer your question, you could start by reading the first 8 pages (only) of this thread and you will get a fair idea what we discuss here. Also, you can access the '4x4 Pickup Truck Club' thread, but that's 80+ pages and counting.

When I first looked around, I couldn't find many mod options for the lux, compared to standard sedans because there are more generic sedan accessories. But, if you keep looking, your wallet will have a big hole before you know it, so be patient when shopping....

My personal advice, put in security measures first before anything else. As you can already see, this truck is a thief magnet. Other stuff, can slowly add...

Happy hiluxing.

Hi there everyone..!
I've order Hilux 2.5 VNT 4x4 Auto transmission yesterday..
And I'll be getting the car next week. im very excited on that. The promotion now is, RM1000 rebate and toyota giving genuine DVD ANV player + GPS + reverse camera which worth rm2990 if im not mistaken for free..
the best part is i asked around few toyota showrooms and they says it will take about 2weeks-4weeks time and at last found a friend of mine who is dealing with cars checked and says can settle for me by a week time. So, anyone here mind sharing some photos of their hilux..?
And im here to ask, any suggestions for any mods on toyota maybe alarm system with gps tracking and auto lock or anti-theft or anything.

Waiting for your reply..

Nice to meet you..

BTV probably is the best and most research by Thailand 4x4 enthusiast,it will cost up to 8k.

well known product are Captor GPS and Viper Smartstart.

Thank you very much Siska..! I've tried to find out more and more but don't really understand much. I read about viper, cobra n also captor. I find captor is cheap then the other two.
I was asking around and people said that it is not good as the wiring they will fix using thin wire n can't really support n usually will face a lot of problem and the warranty will void.

I would like to know about the warranty will it void or not n also about the wiring they mention.. For the moment I'm more interested on captor.

Anyway, my brother's hilux has already arrived on Friday.

Turbo lag will happen if you increase your boost, adding intercooler will make your air cooler and increase your hp.

I just went and fix the brake lock, double lock but not lock tech yesterday which cost rm360.. How much locktech cause..? I'm afraid to put extra alarm also as if the warranty voids.. But I'm afraid of missing the car also if I don't put extra alarm + security.. Any suggestions from sifus here..? Thank you very much..

Yes, brake lock alone does not guarantee security, not even Locktech.

And don't worry about duration, 10 minutes also too long. But u probably won't peek at the truck every 10 minutes right?

As for adding extra security, that depends if u more worried about ur warranty or risking ur truck being inadequately protected fr theft.

Even if you put extra security, still not 100 percent guarantee.

U can try Captor or Cobra GPS tracker though.... or paint it bright green.

Be vigilant though, cos carjacking is also an option for thieves.

Yes its very Photogenic, lol

By the way I am planning to buy a 2.5 2013 MT for myself, I did own previously the 4th Gen Hilux but outside Malaysia. I have heard that this truck is pretty favourite of car thieves. Any comments on that one.
Secondly parking is a pretty big issue in KL so what is your experience for this particular truck.

Last, anyone here own Toyota Tundra, my brother just bought a V8 version cant wait to go back and try my hands on that one. Could not find that truck here though.

Nice to meet you..

regards,
-sK.

Hi All, new owner of a 2.5 Hilux

I'm looking for the pedal lock installation and probably the gear lock too.

Also looking for recommended installation of the back hard top cover. Those you can remove when needed.

Help me out bros!

Some workshops can reset it but may come back on if problem persists. Most likely is the spiral connector at the steering wheel

I'm not so sure about that.. Usually, promotions they
will be doing in short term.. As toyota's 4x4 business been slightly affected, so this promotion can be long term, or mayb short term..

Hi all, I own a 2011 Pre-facelift hilux 2.5G

Just to share my experience with you all

my lux used to be kosong with only a bug shield and a canvas. However the canvas is damaging the paint (friction between the rubber seal and the body - the gap between the cabin and the bed) until all the protection layer (coating) disappear and the metal is expose, can see some rust when the canvas is taken away. rclxub.gif does anyone have this problem too?

Anyway, as to pamper back the truck, below are the recent upgrade made for him:

1) bedliner cover
2) piggyback ECU + throttle controller
3) 17" rim + rubber
4) absorber and spring
5) brake upgrade

Just wonder what mod have you peeps done to your hilux.

Cheers

Dear all Hilux Owner,

I just go my Hilux 2.5 VNT AT and with ODO on 5200km andI just done my 2nd service.

My problem is the steering wheel shaking/vibrate in between 100kmh-120kmh. I told the SC about this, they done the balancing but still the problem exists. SC told me they need to rectify the problem as the steering should not shake after wheel balancing.

They suspect: Tyre problem or suspension system and need me to put my car overnight.

So, have any of you encounter such problem and how you guys solve it?

Thank you

Dont forget to use dmax turbo. Yes it will void unless you remove all mod before sending it to SC.

1 more year warranty. I think you shouldn't worry about it. How many milage has your hilux done?

I removed my sticker when i bought mine and it was a real pain in the a**. Just be careful with the residue glue. Don't use turpentine-based remover. You can rub it down with oil or non-corrosive window cleaner. Test on paint first in an unnoticeable area. Lots of info on this on the net.

Since you gonna tint your ride, here's my take:

1. Use the most heat resistant (and expensive) type on the front screen. It's the hottest area.
2. Use smash resistant tint on sides.
3. Use anything at the back.

RM2k should be sufficient, but more if you are loaded. Just bear in mind warranty against peeling and bubbling, and JPJ saman.

I personally prefer to tint my ride at a shop which specialises in tinting and has an enclosed area for tinting to avoid dust. I tinted few of my rides at Ecotint using Raybarrier tint and so far no issues. But if you big on V-Kool, go for it bro.

I stupidly asked my hero mechanic to remove the sticker residue for me and his boy used turpentine which damaged my paint job. You can try 'Bug n Tar' removers from car detailing sections at department stores or Ace hardware. But like I said, test on an inconspicuous area first. DON'T use acetone or thinner based solvents.

I'm also thinking of upgrading my lux. needs more power.
d-max is a vgt turbo rite? how do you do it? need to add intercooler and chip?
*
no. it is the older version 3.0iteq turbo newer version is 2.5vgs.

that turbo can withstand up to 40psi.

yes you need to add intercooler.

add chip if its feels heavier.

*
thanks. will looking for remover you suggested.

talking about service mileage, previously the salesman told me that hilux can be serviced at 10,000km each, just need to ask SC to use semi of full synthetic engine oil. but when i go to SC, they told me that service for hilux can be done only on 5000km each and the diesel engine didn't have semi or fully synthetic engine oil.. shocking.gif i dont know who was lying about this.. vmad.gif but surely i need to spent more money for service.. cry.gif

I'm looking at the way to soften my hilux ride

Everything stock now.

will adding double shackers improve the comfort?

Do i need to change the absorbers as well ? e.g. titan, armada or rancho adjustable

will adding space arm helps?

Also by the way, is there any hilux club around klang valley?

Double shackles could be dangerous. There are some writeups on the net, Google it.

Most trucks - 'bumpy' by design (no rear load). I don't carry much so I didn't need the stiffness = cut little bit of the leaf spring. Front/Rear absorbers = Bilstein/Rancho XL9000 respectively. Space Arm added, but more for stability than comfort. Tyres 31x10.5 R15 (-ve 27mm) so added King Springs (FR) and extended ball joints; raised back with longer shackles (not double shackles).

Drives like a car now, and a lot less bumpy on my offroad trips as well.

After so long, finally back to this forum.

Just an update, I just change my Hilux3.0 rim to original Fortuner 17" rim with Michelin rubber.

Overall its a better ride after the upgrade.

You can never fixed bouncy bcause that's the trait of leaf spring..the best u can do is to reduce it..try google for the method of it..most famous, remove 1 piece of your leaf spring, or change it..both will reduce your payload

not necessarily the quality of diesel is bad out of the refinery. What happens the tanks at the petrol station. some old ones leak water in. sometimes when the tanks also very dirty hence dirt is also mixed with the diesel. it could also be contaminated diesel tankers.

I try never to pump at those ulu-ulu/run down stations. So far my lux still okay after 200,000 km

Try press "lock" three times when you want to lock the car. It will disable tilt and interior sensor

then i make a google search ... there's a device to jam frequency signals
in this case its a car remote frequency jammer device

just be cautious if suddenly yr remote cant work ... drive to other area n try again

I just added the double shacker brand JS, i will say it improved alot by at least 50% ?
Now Im hunting for tyre

Apparently my standard tyre 255 70 15 looks really small compare to others.
I'm thinking to change the rims as well to 16 inch. If I inch up the rims and change to highway terrain tyre, will the car feel bouncy?

1. I'm not big fan of double shackles, and I doubt it'll improve anything (you can Google 'double shackles' to find more info, there's a lot on the subject). If you think the Hilux rear is too 'hard', cut the leaf spring a bit. Any experienced 4wd mechanic should know this. In my own experience of modifying my Hilux suspension up and down more than 6 times over 3 years, I will attest that that is the most effective way to soften the ride at rear, albeit at the expense of load-sag.

2. My answer to your question is: No, it will not be more 'bouncy' if your tyres are 265/75R16 or 275/70R16 on HT, or at least, nothing that you will immediately be able to point out unless your butt is really sensitive. Again, this is based on my two cents and personal experience. I've changed rims 3 times so far, from 15 to 16, then back to 15, then another 15. I've used tyres from 255 to 275 to 31/10.5 to 32/11.5 then back to 31/10.5 which i'm currently happy with.

Hope this helps.

Upgrade size of rims will not cause car boucy. Car feel bouncy sometimes is caused by the spring and the shock absorber..Over inflated tyre will cause the car boucy also.

Hi Bosses,

I'm considering to get a 2.5G soon. But so far I'm really afraid that I'll regret it. My concerns are:

1. I'm going to use it for city driving. I love tough cars and the commanding view. How feasible is this? Is parking really going to be an issue? How about refueling (diesel)? Are the pumps clean? Read somewhere that someone got issue because old fuelstation has water seep into the tank..

2. Was reading a lot of theft on hilux. Is this a real bummer? What advise would you share for me smile.gif eg. what kind of security systems, etc etc

3. I am currently driving a vios. Low maintenance, not so much issue. Cheap service too. Does switching to Hilux potentially give me a shock? How frequent is the tyre change recommendation? Service center charges? motor oil cost?

Thank you in advance for your advice. With you all well.

1. If water in fuel, will be caught by the filter. Parking isn't that bad. I've only had to give up 1-2% car parks due to it being too small. But see your skill also. If you're a bad reverse parker, then either keep your existing car or learn to reverse park.
Advise : a hilux is not a sedan car. don't go sapu corner or speed. You're much heavier and with a higher centre of gravity. Harder to stop too.
2. So far Most of the hilux i've seen stolen are parked outside the house every night. So park inside your compound at night. Buy a GPS tracker, add a 3rd party immobilizer..buy insurance..
3. Vios will definitely be lower maintenance. Each hilux service is about 400 for basic (5k) and 1+k for major (every 40k). Tyres are about 400 each. Change about 40000-80000km depends on the tyre type.

Decided to wait until next year's year end sale. My Vios should have better trade in value (vs my loan settlement) then as well.

I went to Toyota services center to services my company hilux, the services price is exact RM271.00 (oil, oil filter etc). Ask them NOT to include the car washing, also NO diesel addictive etc those extra stuff. Oh ya, never had any problem with water in tank, just services accordingly.

PS: I am sure is RM271 for normal 5k services because my colleague also bringing another hilux for maintenance, exact same price tongue.gif

We usually services every 10k km though... One of the old hilux has clocked 150k km mileage, going off road everyday, in good condition.

Oh ya, You have to give up side parking, the length is impossible to fit in a parking block unless your front and end is viva's size car and leave space for you.
I trained up my reverse parking skill with hilux though.

does this thread have members who drove the 2003 hilux? i need to ask some question. as im looking for a sub 30k used reliable hilux. hope someone here can advice laugh.gif

Hi, any hilux n60 owner here? im looking for a sub RM30k 03-04 Hilux 2.5 D4D SR TURBO (AT), would like to ask about the:

-vehicle reliability
-vehicle drivability around town and busy place like damansara uptown/kajang town, drivability for long journey, like getting from one state to another.
-spare parts availability
-maintenance of the vehicle
-commonly known problem or commonly fault issue
-modifications, steel bumper, rock slider, snorkel.
-does it use the 2KD-FTV (without intercooler, 101hp version)
-i saw 2 models avail. are there 2 version? from what i've seen the hi-lo gear lever are absent in some automatics 2.5 SRs. It have the smaller gear lever for manual gearbox and some automatics (which place next to the AT gear selector), but some automatics don't have the smaller gear lever.

comment and advice will be much appreciated.

All i know is automatic has no 4x4,if you want 4x4 you have to get manual or one that is already modified with 4wd. Power is upgradeable via piggyback ecu. Modification & part is plenty. Reliability is good as long as you service it on time.

honestly I'm not good or fimiliar wt modification.
but from what i read, if you need better traction/grip, you should change to All Terrain (AT) or at least Mix Terrain (MT) tyres for that purpose. Current Tyre fitted is a Highway Terrain (HT), to reduce noise & vibration into cabin.
Wider tyres will of course would appeals that macho looks. cool2.gif

Your tyre size is 255*65*17. 275*65*17 is good enough.

What is your rim size exactly?

Dmax turbo is probably below 3000. Get them coz they are tough can boost above 30psi.

honestly I'm not good or fimiliar wt modification.
but from what i read, if you need better traction/grip, you should change to All Terrain (AT) or at least Mix Terrain (MT) tyres for that purpose. Current Tyre fitted is a Highway Terrain (HT), to reduce noise & vibration into cabin.
Wider tyres will  of course would appeals that  macho looks. cool2.gif
*
HT is for 100% road use. These are not good for mud. AT (All-terrain) is for 70% road, 30% off-road, means, you can use it off-road, but not super if the trail is wet/muddy. MT (Mud-terrain) is for 30% road use, 70% off-road. These are the best general off-road use tyres and can handle muddy trails pretty well. Of course, it also means they are not that good for on-road as the tyre threads won't hold that well compared to HT which are designed for tar road.

So when you mentioned about 'better traction/grip', that would really depend on whether you are referring to on-road or off-road. Other factors that will influence tyre grip or traction include the type of compound (softer is usually more grippy but wears off faster), thread design (to minimise aqua-planning), and of course, the physical width and profile of the tyre against the rim. Wider tyres may grip better in the dry, but when it's wet, they may slip. Low profile tyres corner better, but are stiffer therefore less comfortable.

In the end, it all depends on the usage pattern, and the amount of RM you are willing to spend. I use Maxxis Bighorn MT764, 31x10.5 R15. They are noisy, have a maximum speed rating of 140 Km/h, but they do perform pretty well off-road. My previous tyres include Maxxis MT762, Bridgestone Deuler AT, and Deuler HT. Which type and size you choose, it's up to you, but know your tyre character and limits well, drive accordingly, and you will be fine.

Hi all, my hilux 2.5 non VNT gonna be 2 years old after this month. I got some sudden passion of doing little mod on my hilux, like adding chip, install intercooler, change exhaust system etc. Just want to know, will these void my manufacturer warranty after doing it ? Thanks all.
*
I recommend you first try blanking the egr and shut off egr solenoid. You will feel an instant responsiveness of the car. Another mod you could consider is tuning the ecu from the professional, much better than u adding chip, where you cant actually customize much and also the price is about the same.

Hello, I'm wondering if anybody have experience in this setup?

Car hilux 3.0VNT year 2014 comes with 17" rims (original toyota). Current state no modification at all, no lift up, etc

Want to change to 16" rims instead and fit them with AT tyres of 265/70/16. Probably a 8jj rims.

Would the front rub the bumper?mudguard?fender?
If no, what maximum offset would be recommended?

Some say need to lift up. But I would prefer not to if possible.

TQ first for reading.

original is 265/65/ 17x7 30 offset

if you are using 16x7 30 offset then it fit perfectly

if you are using other offset and width like 8 inch you need to

1. adjust the alignment not to hit front bumper and body

2. if it still hit you probably need to cut it a little (front bumper)

3. if it still hit then you need to lift it(change to higher absorber and spring)

4. if it still hit do a bodylift (1-2")

i have done a 1.5" body lift,2" suspension lift, remove the mudguard, cut front fender and alignment forward max to the front bumper just to fit a 285/75 16"x8 0 offset.

in your case you probably need to do just 1 and 2.

My 2011 Hilux was once fitted with 275/70R16 wheels with 0 offset without any lift or cutting. It's original wheels if I'm not mistaken were 255/75R15 with some positive offset.

265/70R16 with zero offset rims shouldn't be a problem. Borrow a set from a willing tyre shop to test just to make sure la.

stock Vigo 2.5 Non VNT
aftermarket ecu Alphatech GT Toyota + RPM plus
stock turbo + custom intercooler
19psi boost, dont overboost unless change turbo,DMAX turbo can boost to 30psi or more.
estimate hp 150whp from 109hp

effect on engine :

fuel filter get dirty very quick, causing engine to receive error code and loses power

solution :

park, turn off engine for a minute or 2 then restart,go workshop and replace fuel filter.

I see no triton Group here, Hilux Club and Ford Ranger probably should be combined for more informative sharing

Looking for a pickup, the new 2.8 Hilux is a tempting one (beside the road tax),

the new Hilux also come with tracking device (for anti theft purpose) would the data it transmitted to be against a speeding driver, when it come to insurance premium ?

500 N/m2, and 200HP, boleh lah

By the way, any owner here lower their Picky up for stability and faster speed around corner? need the reliability and light goods carrying capacity

Hello guys,

is there anyone in the forum who had installed intercooler set with stock Turbocharger on Hilux Vigo Commonrail (Non VNT)? Just wondering if there is any drop in car response or boost as the stock turbo is meant for flow without intercooler..

I'm thinking of installing one but not sure if the stock turbocharger needs to be upgraded as well sad.gif Perhaps sifu-sifu can share experience and knowledge

Ex owner of NA non-Turbo Hilux here.
Intercooler is an add-on receiving high pressure turbo-charged (hot) air , cools it and delivery to combustion chambers.
The cooled air has higher air density for purposes of increased amount of engine horsepower/torque, other things being equal.
It works on similar principle as engine oil cooler or transmission oil cooler or engine radiator in terms of cooling .

Without remap, the ECU 'might' not detect and subsequently instruct fuel pump to deliver 'additional' quantity of diesel fuel to match with increased weight/mass of cooled air delivered to combustion system, hence nullifying potentials of increased output of power/torque curves.
Whether the difference is noticeable, IDK if you don't tekan the fuel pedal and no remap.

not necessary but remap probably it will  give you 2.5vnt performance(150hp or more).

just search for any refutable diesel tuner in your area, for cheaper option use ecu remap, for expensive one get a piggyback ecu or complete standalone ecu. since yours are vnt you just need ecu remap, you dont need intercooler.

tq for sharing, been almost a year and done ecu remap + install intercooler + boost controller on my 2009 vigo non vnt. Happy with it especially during hill climbing compared to before rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

since i've upped the stock turbo boost a bit via the boost controller, i usually get around 20 psi (read from my boost meter) but also 24 psi sometimes when i pressed the gas pedal too much especially when going uphill and overtaking (tamparuli - ranau road).

I have been advised by my tuner and also read on forums that it is not recommended to push the non vnt stock turbo over 19 psi but I quite enjoy the power when my boost meter shows 24 psi sweat.gif

Therefore, i am thinking of upgrading to a turbo that is capable of high boost for example dmax ihi turbo while keeping other components such as nozzle as they are now. It is also just because i don't want my turbo to blow :/ (The risk is there right?)

Is it possible? Do I limit the max boost of the new turbo using the boost controller or a retune? unsure.gif unsure.gif

Seems like the new Hilux does not have any mounting point on the roof. Was planning to get a roof rail/rack to mount side awning.

What’s your FC? Mine 2.4 as well and can go around 800km on each fuelling. Mixed drive with occasional power mode turned on.

Mine full tank less than 500km, less it’s depends on our driving style. I don’t use any power mode and I accelerate a lot, hard type😅

Do u idle a lot? Long idling time with engine and AC on will consume fuel as well.

Usually accelerate with rpm in between 2.5k to 3k. Once in a while all the way up to 4k. With power mode on the rpm goes up real fast and the drive is more exciting lol. At worst around 700km before the yellow low fuel indicator ignite.
