Bought the official guidebook from kinokuniya. The cover very nice and details inside is not too bad. OK buy if you have cash to spare.

i have just started playing dark soul 2 days back, i would like to say this is like one of the hardest game ever.

the designer of the game its like made it in such a way that you already know how to play the game/understands each enemies fighting style i should say, altho dying isnt a big deal but fighting some 1 much larger than your self its so "dangerous" and also the Humanity system which is so...."wow" confusing without proper guide or somehow lol

Continue explore for a couple of days and you will find it very interesting and addicting at the same time. But you should refer some web guide to understand more about the weapon range and basic info on humanity. I would say this title deserve as Game of the Year 2011, believe it....

Cheers...

The game needs a lot of patience and if you are able to understand the game mechanics through the many trial and deaths, then i am sure you will appreciate the game more than ever.

Do not fuss about losing your humanity or souls early on because you will find souls farming areas later on in the game. Still souls are essential to build a setup of your desire cool2.gif

According to EGM, DLC for Dark Souls is nearing completion and coming sometime in March. I'm personally quite excited but at the same time, considering how much the "open world" in DS was interconnected, I'm worried that this DLC might break the feel and character of the world.

@Iccyasd this was my personal game of the year for 2011. While it's certainly difficult, it's also the most rewarding game that I've played in a long while.

There is this 1 think i dont understand, are we aiming to always become human while playing? or its ok to continue as hollow?

i have reached the forest with this stingray looking monster & stone golem i have never used any humanity item saving it for future. i find that the drake sword is not as good as the halberd +5

Drake sword only good for starting levels, because it doesn't scale with your level.

It's ok to be hollow. You miss out on the ability to kindle campfires, which mean you're stuck at only 5 estus flasks unless you're rest at a campfire with a flamekeeper. Kindling the flames mean you get 10, 15, 20 flasks so you can explore further without needing to rest/dying. Other benefits also include the ability to summon phantoms for assistance, whether online co-op or npc phantoms to assist with difficult bosses. Disadvantage is that you can also be invaded by other players. Other advantages include better drop rates especially if you're looking for a particular drop. There are also some other advantages which become apparent at higher levels.

Drake sword used to be quite strong because of it's relatively high dps, fast swing time and damage for its level and but people held on to it for too long and as a consequence it was nerfed. So you're right in the sense that the upgraded halberd seems much better. You should check out http://darksoulswiki.wikispaces.com/ for info about the game, due to the speed at which this thread gets replied to and the low number of people on the xbox side who have gotten really in depth into the game.

I'm actually quite gatal to start a new character for fun but I'm quite scared after spending 160+hrs to 1k DS...

People can only invade you anytime they want without requiring any invite. Also there are some requirements needed if they want to invade

1. You are in human form - they cant invade if you are in hollow form

2. You still havent beat the current area boss -- if you get invaded and then entered for a boss fight, the invaders will immediately be banished from your game, so dont worry about they interfering with your boss fights

3. You are within there level cap - this one I forgot how many, havent played for quite some time

Just so you know apart from PvP aspect this game also have co-op mood nod.gif

Ya ya, don't leave your character alone during online mode. Your character will get kill by invaders, just like my experience, lol.

I went back to the game and made a thief the other day, what's surprising is that I've managed to make it to the first belltower armed without levelling up. My SL5 thief is still doing quite well with only a humble bandit knife and target shield biggrin.gif

I've been working on parrying and riposting and it's a totally different game compared to my first character where admittedly i turtled through most of the encounters.. I don't really want to level up although this is an inevitability and I'm still trying to figure out how to get as far as possible without needing to level.

edit: the +5 bandit knife is amazing due to crit damage, I'm basically one shotting most of the standard mobs with about 300 damage, where i can't backstab the bleed damage is quite nice too.

just got my copy yesterday, and trial run for about 1/2 hour

i heard it's hard, knew it's hard, but never expect it to be THAT hard laugh.gif

first dead was by the asylum demon boss, was standing on the hedge on top of him thinking he can't get me, and the next thing you know I crashed down on the floor and I'm dead laugh.gif

next dead is on the hand of the 1st skeletons encounters by the graveyard doh.gif
traditionally skeletons are wimps in any other games, so I gatal go challenge them, end up losing all my souls after 2nd dead while trying to touch my blood laugh.gif

this game is H A R D C O R E!! thumbup.gif

Any idea whats so special about pyromancer ? i choose that bcoz its lvl1 & i wanted to play a fighter with fire spells but it seems like i have yet to learn 2nd spell or anything from it.

playing as a thief it also changes your fighting style? im thinking of starting a mage in future =P

The benefit of the thief is that it starts you off with a Master Key (which is great if you know what you're doing, not so great if you don't), bandit knife, a shield that's built for parrying and high dex. So you can play like a rogue, backstabbing and countering. My first char was deprived (which starts of nekkid with a club and wooden shield), it became a lightning zweihander wielding beast who could block anything but still move at top speed and cartwheel like a ninja.

For the pyromancer class, my take on the advantage is that you have access to fire spells but you don't have to pump intelligence to improve spell damage as long as you upgrade and ascend your glove. this means you can allocate stats to the fighting style that you want. If you pump intelligence, then you can play as a mage.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter what class you start out as, what matters is that you evolve your character the way you want to play it.
