hehe,just bought pata 160gb seagate 7200.9...the old 40gb become backup hdd n storing mp3s...

this hdd is single platter rite?

my Q is,should i enable smart in bios for this new hdd coz my old hdd i disable the option...and,whats the pros enabling it??
*
i think you should enable your SMART, many people recommend to enable it. anythings happen with the hdd ie. hdd failure, it will show you a warning b4 the hdd fail.... blush.gif

After seeing 3 hdd (including mine) died in almost the same time frame, I couldn't agree more.

Hopefully this samsung will last longer smile.gif
*
alamak..
you bought your Samsung hdd already....
why don't you give it a try for Seagate?!

but never mind, let see how good is the Samsung hdd can last....
later you can tell us how good it is....

for a hdd can last for 5 years, is it consider a good already?
or should be greater than that?

but mine 20G Quantum hdd, still dunning now without giving me any problem,
no bad sectors, no SMART error, none.. nothing...
it's already serving me well for about 6 years...
i predict, it's still can serve me another few more years, i think, let's see how...

i think, hdd can last for 5 years consider ok right? rather than a year problem occurs!! doh.gif

mind to tell me why u choose Hitachi.. coz i neva have hitachi hdd b4.
u say ur WD got prob.. i tot wd is so reliable...
*
oh ya...true...
i chose hitachi because....15 word slogan... laugh.gif

nah...
firstly is the seller he recommend me, although the warrenty is not much as what seagate offer, but he said, selling many units and none of them bring back for RMA.

another thingis, i saw a chip printed with infineon logo. then i think this hdd should be ok...

and now, i will test see how long can this hdd last...

negative, i just saw the name written hitachi deskstar, my friend told me before deskstar hdd is not that reliable...it's related with IBM or something... doh.gif
hmm, let me test it and see how good is this hdd.

another good things is, it's came with a plastic container, like those time we bought the hdd with the transparent cover rather than just the plastic bag. nice packaging

Is WD that bad? sweat.gif I just dumped my Maxtors for WDs a few months ago, I thought it's quite a reliable brand unsure.gif

I also have a Hitachi HDD with me, bought this year as well. A very sleek drive if you ask me, love the big shiny part on top of the HDD best biggrin.gif Performance is quite good but rather noisy during seek, the sound is so obvious if I remove my case's sidepanel doh.gif
*
noise is not the problem...
both of my recent wd hdd, not more than a year, SMART occur...!! doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif

so now i willnever ever go for we already! sweat.gif
