Already 1 year ++ and still rocking , my 160GB samsung thats it biggrin.gif I use the Active Smart software (trial version) and there is absolutely no sign of dying or any ECC error , plus it is silent
smile.gif heh production place will not make a difference, but Samsung hdd is good , atleast for the 160gb version, the newer 400gb version still dont have experience but based on SilentPCReview, its a good drive too, but behind the new 500GB Western Digital which is faster and quieter  thumbup.gif

I dont know if this is normal but my ActiveSmart keep showing this ECC error-on-the-fly on my Seagate 320gb drive, whereas the only thing changes in my Samsung is temperature  tongue.gif , hope it dont die though cause my valuable movie collection is all inside  cool.gif
*
amazing...
please keep us update with your samsung hdd information regard of any errors such as SMART etc.
after since i used the samsung DVD optical drive, and it gave me alots of problem where unable to read MOST of the dvds, hard to detect the media. that's why, base on this i never trust Samsung products...

QUOTE(RokXIII @ Dec 12 2006, 10:54 PM)
nope! WD wont noisy at all!
Currently using my WD 120GB PATA for almost 2 years ald, no problem at all! Highly recommended! laugh.gif
*
wow, already been using it 2 years...
oh ya, one thing i would liek to bring out is,
those WD hdd that i bought which has SMART error was 80GB version.
according to some expert said, maybe the 80GB batch of hdd is not that good,
SMART errors possible occur in this batch.
However, the 120GB WD hdd which in my another system running smoothly...
so far no SMART error show on the boot screen. I will use some hdd software to check my WD 120GB condition later. sweat.gif

err... is this the correct place to ask about external hard drives or should i open up a new thread? huh.gif

anyway i'm looking for a good external hard drive. i've checked out maxtor product reviews through google and everyone just seems to be bashing it like there's no tomorrow. issit really that unreliable?

due to sucky internet connection speeds i can't google much info so any help would be appreciated notworthy.gif thanks! and happy new year! smile.gif
*
maybe you can buy other brands external hdd case like, zynet...
this case is awesome, plus with seagate or hitachi hdd, more awesome...

currently using zynet and seagate, awesome, no problem at all...
runs very smoothssss cool2.gif

if maxtor hdd case able to support others hdd / able to fit in, maybe you
can buy them... wink.gif

thanks for your help notworthy.gif

i'm just wondering about compatibility issues here. is it as simple as buying the case and hdd, slot it in and plugging it into my pc with a usb cable? since i'm planning to buy at lowyat plaza, can ask the shop fella to fix it in for me also? i really noob when it comes to all these sweat.gif
*
compatibility issue for maxtor case and other brands of hdd i am not sure, but should be no problem, maybe can fit or cannot, perhaps seagate can.

yes, better buy the other external hdd case. zynet quite good and i am using it.

you can ask them help you for the installation, and format for you,
there is not problem for that.

QUOTE(vearn27 @ Feb 8 2008, 12:46 AM)
BTW, I have a question here. I formatted my HDD into 5 partitions and it become:
    C:
    E:
    F:
    G:
    H:
D: has been used for my optical drive. I managed to change the drive letter to be C:, D:, E:, F:, G: by using Administrator Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management and set my optical drive as H:.

However, when I load Windows bootup disk and using the built-in disk partition (before installing Windows), it stated my partition as:
    C:
    E:
    F:
    G:
    H:
Anyway to change it to the proper order as C:, D:, E:, F:, G:? unsure.gif
*
this one yo need to go into the administrative tools to adjust the drives name... nod.gif

Yeah, I did that and it works on Windows. However, when I load the Windows bootup disk for re-installation or so, the built-in partition program shows C:, E:, F:, G:, H: and D: still been used up for my optical drive sweat.gif.
The cheaper WD 500GB which is the Green Power series is actually a lower performance HDD compared to Seagate Barracuda's smile.gif. You still can use it like any other normal HDD, nothing different. Green Power series utilize lower power consumption, thus lower heat generation and lower read/write speed overall.
*
hmm...
i do not know whether the bios can help or not...
maybe you need to tweak the bios setting... for the drives which come first...
else administrative tools is the only choice...
after you formatted your pc, the drives letter will mss up again,
then you need to re-adjust them... sweat.gif

Well, honestly I don't see any BIOS setting for assigning letter drive or doing partition tongue.gif. The max BIOS can do only set your 1st, 2nd, 3rd and so... HDD in sequence laugh.gif.

If nothing can be done, might as well I just leave it and deal with the Disk Management everytime ba laugh.gif.
XP Pro SP2 smile.gif.

laugh.gif

yes yes... if i am not mistaken then sequence setting in the bios determine your drive letter...
but as usual, C and D(if you for extra DVD drive) for the optical drive. hmm.gif
