My experience with HDDs.

WD 80GB went kuku due to that SMART shait after a year...RMA then now still running fine and coming to one yr anniversary...hope nothing goes wrong again.

Bought a WD 120 GB during RMA period and coming to one yr anniversary as well...really hope dun both kaput on me.

my old 20GB Quantum still good though but spins at 5400rpm so less prone to fault gua.

files storing in hdd is much more easier to access, but worse thing is when the hdd going something wrong,
then we have to say bye bye to our data!!! and hello to new hdd!! doh.gif
for save, save the file in several media, like CDs, DVDs or some external hdd, just in case the hdd failure! sweat.gif

SpeedFan tries to build two synthetic indicators, but this is based on heuristic and on some basic assumptions. Most manufacturers do not use values lower than 100 when any attribute needs no attention, but some other ones (most notably Seagate) chose to set values for some attributes to values lower than 100 even if the drive should be considered 100% healthy

mmm...let me do the simple answer, expertist and MOD (empire23) please explain further and enlighten them...

to check the bad sector/s...
you may use the built in scan disk, called disk check to see the status....
else you can feel the hdd internal got jammed/crack sound and restart after hit the hdd's bad sector/s. that's all for my experience!
