not really......Maxtor HDD famous as "Data Killer". There is a thread discussing about HDD and almost 90% user complaining Maxtor HDD. If you have friends who are PC hardware dealer ask them what HDD giving the most problem........MAXTOR shakehead.gif

the most scary thing about harddisk is they just died without any symptoms .... i used to have 1 maxtor and 2 western digital and 1 seagate .... they serve me well and still under warranty period ... but i guesss we cant just predict ... they died just overnight ... unrecoverable ... really sad ... all data gone! ... is there any harddisk that can promise will not died without any symptoms for 3 years time? tongue.gif ..... guess not ..... depends on luck ...

i just burn a wd2500ks
thanks for the very good service of cycom, they change a brand new one for me without asking a word

i don't know why, but i think it is really a hurt to keeping 250gb files in a disk and suddenly finding have lost all of them

and also i don't think i can afford always another 250gb disk for backup purpose only

ur is sata or pata?

QUOTE(Nightstalker1993 @ Dec 7 2005, 01:43 AM)
my new seagate will have the 'tak...tak....tak...' sound when using bt,or donwloading via limewire, other time, its as stealthy as a stingray(correct me if i use the wrong term),only thing is,since i bought it from pc fair,so no warranty card or whatsoever, scared cannot claim warranty,so.....no warranty card can claim warranty arr?
*
how come? u keep the receipt?

You may want to check out Warranty Week on the Top 25 Warranty Providers, and you'll notice that Maxtor is in the list. As for Seagate, they are in the Top 50 Warranty Providers instead because of lower warranty claims. It should be noted Seagate ships more drive than Maxtor, however on warranty claims its the other way around though. These figures are mostly for the US/Canada region though.. Sorry, no figures on Western Digital this year YET, but you can checkout the older Warranty Headlines Archive and see.. wink.gif

The figures there are subjective of course. There could be many factors that affect them (such as older warranties due to 3-5 year warranty claims, etc). Just some points to ponder.. sweat.gif

On the subject on reliability.. I would say 80% on how you manage and "treat" them (ie. PSU, cooling, mounting, etc) and 20% luck! Nobody's perfect. tongue.gif

Always monitor the S.M.A.R.T status from time to time to avoid data loss.. Do periodic backups as well.. rolleyes.gif

Wa........die lo........I just bought a MAXTOR 250GB HDD.....Yet here everyone is complaining MAxTOR.....But my WD 200GB is serving me well for one year.

The first day I bought MAXtor, I cant boot up my HDD as slave although I plug everything properly. I thought my windows got problem, so I reinstall, then after that I plugin again and it works. Wasting my time to reinstall my windows.

I hope my MAXTOR HDD dont have any problem..........keep my finger crossed!!!

LEX!!!
how come now only you came in!!!
this is a very good informations...
OMG!!! thumbup.gif

in facts, i think now the most reliable hdd was Seagate, why, because they gave 5 years warrenty for the hdd. they are confident with their products like his past compatitor; Quantum. I think i should buy Seagate and try for it....

Been using a Maxtor 80GB 2MB PATA for slightly less than a year. No problems for now, although I'm still cautious of the problems that may come. smile.gif At 1st, I was so damn skeptical and reluctant to buy it, but considering that I needed it badly, the price was just right and since it's very difficult to get Seagate here, I just had to do it. dry.gif The only thing that moved me was the fact (or is it?) that Maxtor bought over Quantum, and that reason alone was why I got a HDD with a potential timebomb attached. biggrin.gif I pray to the high heavens that nothing'll happen within another year...
