Hi guys, would like to know if buying a Makita HR2470 rotary drill (seems like a recommended model here) for normal home usage (drilling holes for tv bracket, curtain rails, mirrors, etc) would be an overkill? Can it drill small holes for the above items?

Been using a hammer drill previously. Definitely looking forward to make life easier smile.gif but worried if it will be too much for normal usage.

Depends on the wall you want to drill.
Normal landed house that used red or cement brick usually a hammer drill will do.
Concrete wall, hammer drill also can drill but it will take longer and you need to push harder.

Unless you need to drill into the support beams which are very hard concrete then you will need rotary hammer.

I use bosch GSB18V hammer drill and it can drill 5-8mm hole in both brick and concrete. Just concrete will take longer time.

Go to lazada and search "BOSCH GLIVARILED". However I think this model is for 14.4 & 18v which is not suitable for you.

Go 11street, search "Bosch LED". There are 10.8v models but i think all of them ship from overseas.

Bosch Malaysia is bringing in the 18V blower.
Looking at the spec its on par with the datavac that I use to clean computer casing dusts.
Oh yeah no more long cables to pull and stepdown transformer to setup.
Now just waiting for it to show up in gem5...

I have the old Bosch torch light. It using filament bulb. Head can turn 90 and using 10.8v battery.

Not much using as it bulky and led now brighter and much more smaller.

Btw, it come in a set promotion.

My house was built using hard burned red brick (which is so damn hard) thus Makita HR2470 does the job efficiently.

Then I bought GSB1080v cordless. It does the job same like makita but a bit longer and u need to press harder. Certain areas I cannot drill to expected level, makita finish off the task..

However, when dealing with new house (mostly white brick), my GSB does the drill job easily like kacang putih..

So for me, u need to see type of brick your house have. Decide from there.. We can recommend powertools but the person who use it knows better which tools suitable for him/her..

I personally nowadays prefer GSB than Makita.. Lightweight, compact and flexible.

U used screw function or hammer function?

I did used hammer function before on hard door. Managed to drive in..

Try using drill function. Or else try to drill first using wood drill.. Just a patch so that the screw won't glide when u want to drive it in..

Last time I dig small holes first then only drive the screw into the hole. Similar to how those ikea furniture where you drive screw into pre drilled holes.

Impact drill might not be strong enough to direct drive screw into wood. You need impact driver that has high torque. biggrin.gif
sometime drive too large screw into wood might crack the wood, be careful yo.

6mm screw too big.

Usualy 3.5-4mm. If the hole is slightly bigger, maybe 5mm. It already very tight.

Wall plug do come in several size.

Hi guys,

I bought the skil 1716 from Lazada with RM337 including delivery fees. Pretty satisfy with its performance, which allows me to drill a 6mm hole for anchor within 20 seconds. I think this is quite a good choice for those with low budget like me.

Does it comes with any drill bit?
Or u have to buy them separately?

Thanks

I used the 25% Gemfive promo to get a bosch 18V multicutter to do some hole cutting and sanding on rusted part of grill to repaint.

First time I pick up the tool, ouch its so heavy.
I was expecting it to vibrate a lot and has doubt I can hold it well when using, but when power up... wow so stable can't feel much vibration.

Amazing...
