you will need a demolition hammer. not that you cant accomplish that with a rotary hammer but the time and efford could be overwhelming.

One of that will make ur work a lot easier regardless of brand, matter of performance and realibility.

Since you are not going to use it day in day out I presume any brand wil do.

I use a generic brand demolition hammer to break a 3' x 20' graded concrete slab. Took me quite awhile to finish that job. Tried a multi purpose impact tools and barely able to hack a 2 x 2 area and give up.

Your hand is gonna be sore if you are not use to those kind of work.

Remember to let the hammer some rest ... careful of overheat.

As per your application, use a flat head chisel bit and a sledgehammer.

Hope that your wall is clay brick and not sand.

Hi Sifus

I'm newbie on driller.
I've read all 69 pages but dun quite understand on impact drill. Impact drill is take longer time and strength to penetrate the wall? If the product mention drill driver means 2 in 1?

I live in condo. No idea the wall is concrete or brick.
1) For now, i want a driller to install cable cover strip on the wall and drill hole for hanging aircon remote control cover.
2) For future, i want to drill holes in bathroom tiles and wet kitchen tiles for hanging accessories. Maybe some repair work.
Attached Image
3) Another thing is i want cordless for polishing my car bcoz condo's car wash and parking no power point.

Rotary hammer seem like too over for my need?
Does GSB 14, 4-2 sufficient for all my needs? This drill will not crack the tiles?

My 2 cents.

For all three purposes you mentioned above, a normal Corded Impact Drill will do (not Impact driver, or screw driver, ie. GSR series). Impact drill can easily drill holes in cement wall, with proper drill bit. If unfortunately your wall is made of Concrete, Impact Drill will have some problem.

But generally, installing cable cover, aircon remote holder, and tiles drilling require just a normal impact Drill. And yes, your GSB can do the trick. I have tried GSB-10.8 with proper bit, also can drill a two inch deep hole (size 6mm), but takes slightly longer.

For tiles, remember to use a Tile drill bit to make a beautiful round hole first.

From my own usage and experience as a weekend DIYer, I think the best combination tools to get is a corded Impact Drill of any named brand eg. Bosch, black and decker, etc. And a cordless 10.8V GSB or similar impact drill.

10.8V is cheaper to acquire and replace when battery need to be replaced. When one need some good powered drilling, corded impact drill is better.

Otherwise one can get a Corded Impact drill as above, plus a cordless Impact Driver eg. Borsh 10.8v GDR. Impact driver is really really good for painless screw driving. Plus its small size, excellent to go around driving screw in funny angle and space.

To save money, I guess getting a cordless impact driver with both screw and drilling bits thats designed for impact driver. That can perhaps solved quite a bit of problem. But its hard to buy Impact driver grade Drilling bits here in Malaysia. As far as I know, normal drill bit can be easily broken if used by an impact driver.

Other opinion by the pro would be appreciated.

i use impact driver as drill, the bits are frm bosch, drill metal and wood,

it won't break unless the bit is jammed and u are forcing it to turn smile.gif

impact drivers are not precise when drilling cos the bit is loose compared to a drill with chuck..
